Fans continue to tune into Grey's every season for the latest medical cases, relationship drama, and robust storytelling.
We don't get as much Meredith these days, but there is still enough to satisfy viewers, including the relationship mishaps with her new love interest.
While the show doesn't have the same pizzazz and character compatibility as it did in the early years, there is plenty of relationship messiness to entice fans.
But no matter how great -- or bad -- things get at Gsm, some relationships have happened in the last 20 years that fans will never forget. And some never got the ending they deserve.

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 20 premiere.
“Grey’s Anatomy” hit the reset button in the aftermath of its traumatic Season 19 finale, including the exit of one of their own. By the end of the Season 20 premiere, Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) announced he’d be leaving Grey Sloan Memorial to reunite with Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) at her new home in Boston.
His last move as residency director was passing the torch to the now Catherine Fox award-winning Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), effectively bringing the series back to basics with her taking charge of teaching the hospital’s latest class of interns.
“I feel like if anyone can bring these interns back from what just happened, it’s the person who helped create doctors like Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang and Alex Karev,” showrunner Meg Marinis told TheWrap. “Bailey doesn’t always get the credit that she deserves.

But he might soon be facing much gorier medical emergencies in a new and very different role.
Variety reported today that Speedman has been cast in a lead role on the upcoming Peacock horror series Teacup.
The show is based on a beloved novel by Robert McCammon that's not for the faint of heart.

We also see Bailey tell Meredith that the interns are facing a few challenges, and Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) makes a return to Grey Sloan, threatening to fire a few following the Season 19 finale, where Meredith and he confessed to each other in Boston. Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 is on its way with several new changes, including the shift of Ellen Pompeo‘s Meredith Grey from series regular to recurring, as well as the return of Jessica Capshaw as Dr. Arizona Robbins. As recently confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Pompeo is only expected to appear in four episodes during the season. So of course, many are speculating that some Meredith storylines will be dropped in this strikes-shortened, 10-episode season. Although ABC says she may appear in more installments, reps have declined to comment further, fueling the speculation. No matter what, some things need to be addressed about the titular Dr. Grey in the future this season, and these are the three most pressing. Is Nick Marsh the Next Great Romance for Meredith? The last we saw of Scott Speedman’s Nick Marsh, he was in Boston reuniting with Meredith for the first time in a while.

It’s hard to believe Grey’s Anatomy has been on the air for almost 20 years.
As a midseason replacement back in 2005, the show wasn’t expected to break out in the way it has done.
Despite big casting shake-ups, it remains one of ABC’s most popular dramas and will likely be on the air for countless more years.
With Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 just around the corner, it’s time to take a look at everything we know about the milestone season.
We even have an update on Ellen Pompeo’s return as Meredith Grey.
Get all the details below.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20: when will it premiere?
The medical drama will return from an extended hiatus on Thursday, March 14, at 9/8c.
Unlike previous years, it will air out of 9-1-1, which is moving from Fox.

We'll be old and gray before Grey's Anatomy ends!
Grey's Anatomy continues to make records and hold its own as a cultural juggernaut in the television landscape as it comes off 19 seasons on the air.
And while there has been a revolving door cast over the past nearly two decades, including the titular main character, Meredith Grey herself, it shows no signs of slowing down.
One of the most exciting aspects of Grey's Anatomy Season 19 is how the series found a way to reinvent itself.
It served as a reboot within the series, and the show pulled it off remarkably well with a fresh batch of interns who have already made their mark and feel like the next generation of this series.
No one could've anticipated that a new version of Og "M.A.G.I.C" conveniently, also "M.A.G.Yk" could bring back the familiar vibes of Grey's Anatomy's heyday,...

Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey had many love interests over 19 seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy,” from Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd to Scott Speedman’s Nick Marsh, but such constant relationship conflict ultimately became a source of frustration for the actor. During a “Grey’s” reunion interview with Katherine Heigl as part of Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, Pompeo lamented over Meredith’s lack of growth in her love life.
“When you stay on a show and with a character that long…for me, I really need to make sense of things and I really need to see evolution and growth,” Pompeo said. “And with network television specifically, there has to be some consistency for the audience. The audience wants familiarity. The writers get stuck in the consistency of something, and it’s harder, which I always would argue against and say, ‘We have such an incredible fan base. They’re so loyal.

In the season 19 winter premiere of Grey’s Anatomy, “I’ll Follow the Sun,” Meredith Grey left her job at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle to move with her family to Boston.

This marks nearly two decades and over 400 episodes on the ABC medical drama. Pompeo starred on the show since the series first began in 2005.

Grey’s Anatomy is undergoing a change.
After nearly two decades and more than 400 episodes of leading the ABC medical drama, star Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey said goodbye to Grey Sloan Memorial for her family’s move to Boston in the season 19 winter premiere, “I’ll Follow the Sun.” The Feb. 23 episode marked Pompeo’s second-to-last appearance this season, with her next onscreen visit not coming until the season finale in May.
The moment brings about a series regular exit for Grey’s resident doctor, Meredith Grey, who has been played by Pompeo since the beloved Shonda Rhimes-created series first launched in 2005. And it begins to test whether Grey’s can succeed without its star.

Meredith Grey performed her “last” surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital during the winter premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” on Thursday. But Ellen Pompeo’s final episode as a series regular felt more like a “see you later,” leaving plenty of questions unanswered and the door open for her character’s return.
ABC promoted the episode, titled “I’ll Follow the Sun,” as Meredith’s big farewell to Seattle. Previews for the hour paid homage to the many traumatic moments, goodbyes, accomplishments and near-death experiences the doctor has procured across 19 seasons and over 400 episodes, but the hour itself played more like real life — with a dose of romantic comedy frustration.
The installment began as Meredith and her children arrived at the hospital for her last day on the job, in the aftermath of her longtime Seattle home sustaining damage in a fire. In a conversation with love interest Dr. Nick Marsh...

Ellen Pompeo said it herself: Grey’s Anatomy will be “just fine” without her. But many fans may disagree. After all, the character of Meredith Grey is the namesake of Shonda Rhimes’ hit series, and she’s always been its focal point. The fact is, though, that Meredith’s departure has been a long time coming — so much so that it’s been weighing the series down. Between that and the many other well-rounded characters with interesting stories, plus a brand new crop of interns that are bringing a breath...

Of course Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) knows how to always make an entrance! And the promo (above) for her Grey’s Anatomy return in Season 19 in the October 20 episode shows that this time will be no different. But first: what leads to that moment. Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) is surprised to see Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) at the hospital. But, as Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) explains, “I may have given her permission to use the interns.” When Meredith questions that, he points out, “you really want to tell Bailey no?” After all, Bailey doesn’t have to still work at Grey Sloan to be in charge. So what does Bailey need the interns for? “You’re helping me with a sex ed curriculum. You get the benefit of working with yet another world-renowned surgeon. Dr. Montgomery,” she reveals. “Don’t look so miserable. You’re getting paid to talk about sex today,...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Everything Has Changed,” the premiere of Season 19 of “Grey’s Anatomy,” which first aired on Oct. 6 on ABC and streams on Hulu starting on Oct. 7.
“Grey’s Anatomy” is diving back into its past to begin its future. The Season 19 premiere of ABC’s long-running medical drama kicked off with a slew of brand-new cast members — the class of surgical interns on their first day at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, much like the pilot episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” introduced that cast on March 27, 2005.
These freshmen interns, though, are the opposite of the Meredith Greys and Cristina Yangs we met all those years ago. Because the Grey Sloan surgical residency program was shut down last season after a patient’s death, this new group was selected in desperation: They’re the rejects and malcontents who didn’t make it elsewhere. Scott Speedman is reprising his role as Dr. Nick Marsh on "Grey's Anatomy" this season, despite how things ended with Meredith Grey in the season 18 finale. As TVLine previously reported, Speedman is still listed among the "Grey's" cast, though he's now recurring.
Following a dramatic appearance in the season 18 premiere, Deadline confirmed that Speedman would be a series regular for the entire reason. Grey’s Anatomy is skipping ahead six months for its upcoming 19th season, at least that is what’s implied in the latest trailer for the hit ABC medical drama. “It’s been a very difficult six months,” Ellen Pompeo‘s Meredith Grey tells Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) in the teaser (watch below). Season 18 ended with Meredith and Nick involved in a big falling-out, but it seems time has helped heal some wounds. The pair are at least back on speaking terms. The majority of the trailer focuses on the new class of interns as they settle in at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. “Don’t kill anyone or drop anything inside a patient,” warns Levi Schmitt (Jack Borelli), who lost his first patient last season. As for Meredith, she shares a warning of her own, which references the first-ever episode of Grey’s Anatomy. She tries to advise Link (Chris Carmack) to avoid workplace relationships.

No one is okay, except maybe Amelia, Mer, and Nick.
Most of Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 17 was emotional, messy, and certainly dramatic. Relationships were tested, and in other cases, amends were made.
And by the end of the hour, we got the shocking news that Catherine's cancer had progressed.
It's safe to say that they've made amends as upset as both Webber and Bailey were with Mer.
Families fight, and they say some ugly things to each other, but when they have a solid foundation, it works out in the end. We saw it with Bailey, Mer, and Webber, but ironically, it doesn't apply to Winston and Wendall.
If the hospital is falling apart around them, this sinking ship with too many holes, there's not going to be one specific thing that can save it.
The pandemic and factors go far beyond the Webber Method, and Gsm is facing what many medical facilities are.

At the end of the April 7 episode, Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) had seemingly made up her mind about the job offer from Dr. David Hamilton (Peter Gallagher) that would take her to Minnesota full time. She told Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman), “I’m ready to start over. I’m definitely ready. I’m gonna take that offer.” And now it seems that it’s time for Meredith to let her sisters know she’s planning to leave. Just as the latter seemed to be winding down, however, Dr. David Hamilton (Peter Gallagher) had an offer for her that would mean a major change. In “Put the Squeeze on Me,” Hamilton tried to get her to agree to be part of the staff permanently, as Director of the Grey Center (with a major budget) and Chief of General Surgery, in the middle of a presentation. The new episode proved that things could be getting serious for the season 18 couples, as Nick (Scott Speedman) told Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) he was "falling in love" with her and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Kai (E.R. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 11 “Legacy.”] It seems as though Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has found happiness with Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) after the two reconnected this season on Grey’s Anatomy. There’s just one problem: They live in different states. For now, the long-distance relationship is working, though that has been helped by the fact that working on the Parkinson’s Trial brought Meredith to the Mayo Clinic. But when it was time for the next step (surgery for Peter Gallagher’s Dr. Hamilton), the location moved to Seattle. And “Legacy” showed that both have responsibilities in their respective cities — she was working on that surgery, he had a liver transplant — and traveling to see him means she’s away from her kids. “Grey’s Anatomy” — already the longest-running primetime medical drama in television history — has been renewed by ABC for its 19th season, with star Ellen Pompeo set to return as Meredith Grey. Whereas last year the show’s renewal came down to the wire, and was announced in May, this time there’s no such cliffhanger. Pompeo, currently a co-executive producer, is being bumped to executive producer as of next season. Along with Pompeo’s return, ABC announced that executive producer Krista Vernoff — showrunner since Season 14 when creator Shonda Rhimes handed over its reins — will continue to oversee the show. Original cast members Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. are also set to return for Season 19.

ABC should rename Grey's Anatomy to "Blast from the Past."
Seriously.
The hit medical drama returned to the air Thursday night with Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 1 and, damn. It was a lot.
To the surprise of everyone, the episode featured the return of Scott Speedman as Dr. Nick Marsh.
Yes, Nick only appeared in a single episode of the series, but he had a significant impact on fans.
Many have been clamoring for his return since, and the surprise return did not disappoint.
Meredith and Nick still share a lot of chemistry, and it looks like Speedman will be around for a while, too.

The hit medical drama returned to the air Thursday night with Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 1 and, damn. It was a lot.
To the surprise of everyone, the episode featured the return of Scott Speedman as Dr. Nick Marsh.

Many have been clamoring for his return since, and the surprise return did not disappoint.

Deadline is reporting that Speedman is locked in as a series regular, which is pretty great.

And the romance is bound to stick around, as Variety has confirmed what “Grey’s” fans have long hoped for: Speedman will be a series regular this season.
Although ABC teased the premiere as a crossover event with lead-in “Station 19,” there was virtually no appearance of anything related to Grey Sloan on the first hour — just some patients.
The “Grey’s” episode proper opened with a somber title card: “This season, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ portrays a fictional, post-pandemic world which represents our hopes for the future. In real life, the pandemic is still ravaging the medical community. Get the latest...
