Josh Brolin has had an interesting career over the years. His breakthrough role came with the 1985 adventure comedy film Goonies. In the 2000s, he gained prominence playing significant roles in acclaimed films such as No Country For Old Men and Milk. The 2010s was a great decade for Brolin as he tasted huge commercial success with the last two Avengers films and Deadpool 2.
Josh Brolin in 2008’s Milk
He played iconic comic book characters Thanos and Cable in the two films. However, he had already dipped into the comic book world with DC’s 2010 film Jonah Hex. The film is considered one of the worst superhero films ever made and Brolin is still taking the blame for the disastrous results of the film and continues to criticize its quality.

Josh Brolin looked back on some of his movies in a recent interview, and he didn’t hesitate to trash one of them.
The 56-year-old Dune: Part Two star described one of his previous releases as “a s-itty f-cking movie.” However, he shared something that he learned after previously dissing the movie that changed his perception of it.
He also opened up about how much he got paid for his starring role in 2007′s No Country for Old Men, which won big at the Oscars.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two is finally upon us after the writer and actor strikes delayed the release for a few months. The hype surrounding the film is massive and the review from our own Chris Bumbray says of the film, “In this day of assembly line blockbusters, it’s a miracle that director Denis Villeneuve has managed to get not one but two incredible, uncompromised epics like this through the studio system. It works as a tentpole blockbuster, but Dune Part Two is also filmmaking at the highest level.” Josh Brolin makes his return in the second part as well, and although the Academy Award-nominated actor has sealed himself in comic book movie history as one of the greatest villains with his role as Thanos, he still makes sure to talk trash where trash is due.

In the messy saga of making and failing Jonah Hex, Josh Brolin decides to forgive director Jimmy Hayward. The 56-year-old understands the tough times the director went through, especially with his battle against cancer. It’s quite unexpected for the actor to be so forgiving, given how badly the movie was received when it hit the screens.

This flick was Brolin’s first shot at a superhero role outside the Marvel universe, which was a pretty gutsy move. But with Hayward’s rocky ride at the helm, it was anything but smooth sailing.

Superhero media is the fad these days, and most comic-book franchises are doubling down on their efforts to produce more related content with each passing year. However, there was a period when even the big two comic-book franchises, DC and Marvel, explored different genres like horror, western, space adventure, and fantasy in the comic-book medium, which were totally free from the continuity of mainline superhero-related series and had their own space to grow. Some of the most iconic stories and characters were introduced through these non-superhero comics, and they had their own separate audience to cater to as well.
Generally, as comic-book sales dwindled, most of the iconic titles ceased to exist and were integrated into mainline comics continuity; as a result, many of yesteryear’s popular characters were largely forgotten. In the recently released DC animated movie Justice League: Warworld, which is a part of the Tomorrowverse, the narrative...

For its most recent animated feature, Justice League: Warworld, DC returns to the Tomorrowverse, which has been the setting for Superman: Man of Tomorrow, and Legion of Super-Heroes among others. It’s also a return to “R” rated animation and it’s easy to see why as the film has barely begun when Wonder Woman starts taking out cowboys with bloody headshots.
Yes, I said cowboys. It seems she’s managed to not only end up in the Old West but she’s gotten herself on the wrong side of Jonah Hex and his men.

During the early 90s, DC Comics launched the Elseworlds publication, along with trademarking the very word itself, and the storylines became extremely popular due to their interesting proposition of testing beloved characters of the franchise in varied settings, contexts, and tropes. Later, the stories were incorporated into the larger DC multiverse, but the distinctively unique takes were engaging enough as standalone stories to begin with. In recent years, as part of DC animated movie adaptations, we have seen some of these in Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, The Doom That Came To Gotham and Superman: Red Son, and they arguably fare better than the prime continuity animated universe.
Taking a page from that book, the recently released DC animated interconnected universe continuity, aka Tomorrowverse adaptation Justice League: Warworld, offers a chance to explore the Elseworlds storyline in the mainstream universe. Warworld is a setting of importance in DC lore, a planet-like...

Josh Brolin’s career is nearing four decades, with some genuine classics and an Oscar nomination on his resume. But it is not without its duds, and if there’s one that failed the hardest, it’s undoubtedly 2010’s Jonah Hex, which found Josh Brolin as the titular DC character.
In a new interview with Variety, Josh Brolin bluntly put the “awfully good”-worthy Jonah Hex on blast, saying it was a bust both “creatively and monetarily”, a point supported by both the content and the fact that it pulled in just $11 million on a nearly $50 million budget. Lady Gaga has been filmed recreating the best-known scene from Joker on the set of its new sequel.
The pop musician, real name Stefani Germanotta, is playing Harley Quinn in the forthcoming DC Comics film Joker: Folie à Deux.
In the 2019 original, Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, aka The Joker, danced down the stairs of West 167th Street in the Bronx, New York, to the sound of “Rock and Roll Part 2” by Gary Glitter.
Gaga was spotted by fans at the same location, performing a short dance while ascending the steps.
While a film crew were present to record Gaga at the location, it is currently unclear whether the dance will be part of the film, or was simply the actor’s playful homage for the benefit of the crew and other onlookers.
Last week, Gaga was seen filming a same-sex romance scene while in character on the set of the Joker sequel.

If you want to see a more unusual antihero in comics, just look at Jonah Hex. He’s the gunslinging bounty hunter who looks like he comes right out of a Western/horror movie. Oh, and just in case anyone forgot, he also got his own movie back in 2010. I’m pretty sure most people would like to forget about that movie. I can’t blame them, but I must say, it had a killer cast. Well, aside from Megan Fox that is. You can enjoy looking at her all you want, but her acting skills need some serious work. Yeah, that’s old

Megan Fox is ready to reclaim her career after years of hiding. In a recent interview with InStyle, the actress looked back on the first decade of her career that sent her into a "self-imposed prison" and discussed the "incredible breakthrough" that recently pushed her back into the spotlight.
"I stayed up and promised myself that I would never live one more day of my life from fear. I came home, and my whole life changed."
Following the constant struggle with sexist and misogynistic criticism at every turn during what was known as the height of her career - "I was brought out and stoned and murdered at one point," she explained - she stayed relatively out of the spotlight for years. That was until 2020, when the actress came across Jonah Hex, a movie she starred in in 2010 that "got panned in the press." "I had never even watched it...

The Marvel vs. DC rivalry is arguably much less important to the contracted talent than it is to either the studios or the fans, with countless actors having starred in numerous projects from both comic book companies. However, you’re a lot more likely to find those in front of the camera pulling double duty than those behind it.
That being said, David S. Goyer has written four Marvel adaptations and been credited on five DC movies, Dave Callaham scripted Wonder Woman and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Crank creators Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor received a screenplay credit for Jonah Hex and also directed Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, to give three examples.

Josh Brolin is certainly no stranger to the world of comic book movies, and while his best known flirtations with the genre saw him play the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thanos and Deadpool 2′s Cable, his extensive experience in the world of page to screen translations has brought some wildly inconsistent results.
He might have played the bad guy in the highest-grossing movie in history, but the 52 year-old also suited up as the title character in Jonah Hex, which bombed at the box office and quickly gained a reputation as one of the worst comic book flicks ever made. He took top billing in the remake of manga adaptation Oldboy as well, which also tanked and was savaged by critics, while Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was a disappointingly pale imitation of the first installment.

HBO Max is serving up a lot of great new movies this October. Fittingly for the spooky season, the Warner Bros. streaming service is adding a fair few classic horrors to its library next month, but there’s really something for everyone going up – from comedies to romances to sci-fi to superhero films.
Speaking of that last genre, DC lovers will be pleased to note that 2013’s Man of Steel, the movie that kicked off the Dceu, is among the titles arriving on October 1st. Besides that, there’s a bunch of animated DC pics dropping the same day, including Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and All-Star Superman. 2005’s Constantine featuring Keanu Reeves, meanwhile, also debuts on the service from the 1st.

I’m not entirely sure why, but DC have always been far better than Marvel with anthology books. Possibly because of their extended history, that they just have that much more material than Marvel had, and could make extra money by packaging old, sorry ‘classic’, reprints with the odd new story or framing sequences. The recent run of DC anniversary issues have also seen them put out some rather good 100 page anthologies, but now with all new material, though with very definite nods towards source material of the past. Which brings us to this ‘Guidebook’. Odd title in a way, as it’s appeared too far down the line into the event to be a guide for anything, but it’s certainly a good opportunity to fill in gaps in the main book, and to give short, sweet glimpses at some of the peripheral characters.

Josh Brolin is no stranger to starring in comic book adaptations having headlined Jonah Hex, played second fiddle to Will Smith in Men in Black 3 and taken over from Clive Owen as Dwight in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, but now the actor finds himself in the unique position of playing two major characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the studio can’t seem to figure out their plans for.
Thanos may have met his demise twice at both the start and end of Avengers: Endgame, but the return of the Mad Titan can’t officially be ruled out yet, especially given his close ties to the Eternals and the expansion of the McU’s multiverse. On the other hand, the 52 year-old is also widely expected to return as Cable in Deadpool 3, but there’s still no sign of when the movie will eventually enter production.

So, a little later than planned, due to a certain super-villain called Covid-19, but the sequel of sorts to the Dark Nights:Metal event of a couple of years ago is here. That event, also overseen by Snyder and Capullo, introduced a dark multiverse that exists alongside the regular DC multiverse, the two connected by various metals. That first event focused mostly on Batman, that being Snyder’s main book at the time, and we got to see several nasty variations of Batman. Which was fun. It was very popular, with all the various tie-ins, so a sequel was inevitable. Just because you can make a sequel, though, should you? Let’s take a look.

When you think of actors playing comic book characters, your mind tends to instantly jump to the ones that played the same role for a number of years that have become inextricably linked with the part, like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine or Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. However, more than a few names have dabbled in the genre multiple times, and it isn’t exactly surprising that the results were more than a little hit-or-miss.
Brandon Routh is still best known for playing the title hero in Superman Returns, which he would eventually reprise in the Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” despite already having starred as Legends of Tomorrow’s Ray Palmer. Outside of the world of DC though, he also played a supporting role in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and took the lead in 2011’s forgotten box office bomb Dylan Dog: Dead of Night.

Happy birthday to The Walking Dead‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan! The star of many iconic movies and TV shows celebrates turning 54 today (April 22nd).
The American actor’s career goes back decades, with his filmography including over 70 screen credits. It’s fair to say, though, that he’s reached a whole other level of fame in the past 15 years or so. In 2005, he played the all-important part of John Winchester, father to Sam and Dean, in Supernatural. He appeared multiple times across The CW hit’s early years and returned for its 300th episode in 2019. Also in 2009, the star’s turn as Edward Blake/the Comedian in Watchmen brought him a legion of new fans. He’d return to the superhero scene seven years later, too, when he worked with Zack Snyder again...

Marvel may be the dominant force in comic book movies at the moment just through sheer numbers, it’s actually DC Comics that has the historical edge. Films based on DC properties go back nearly a century to those ancient Batman and Superman serials, while Marvel didn’t really get things going until this century. That’s a lot of history — how do the recent “Birds of Prey” and “Joker” stack up? Let’s take a look.

The resurgent Dceu suffered a setback recently when Birds of Prey fell victim to a disappointing opening at the box office, coming in almost $20 million below even the most pessimistic of studio estimates. It marked the lowest debut in the franchise by far, standing well behind Shazam!’s $53.5 million bow, and marked the worst opening weekend for any DC property since infamous flop Jonah Hex raked in a meager $5.3 million a decade ago.
This instantly sent Warner Bros. into damage control mode, with the studio hastily renaming the movie as Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey in an attempt to piggyback off the popularity of Margot Robbie’s performances as the fan-favorite character, drawing plenty of ire in the process. But after nearly three weeks in theaters, the comic book team-up has still only managed to earn a little over $150 million globally.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) continues to hold online critical and audience scores of 80% despite the film debuting to underwhelming box office numbers. Its $33 million domestic opening weekend ranks among the lowest comic book movies ever released, and is the worst since the $5.4 million opening of Jimmy Hayward’s 2010 failure Jonah Hex.
The film’s cumbersome title in particular, which is phonetically longer than an actual haiku, is partly to blame for its financial falter according to box office analyst Jeff Bock. “The first mistake is not focusing on” Margot Robbie’s returning antiheroine, he told Variety. “Not naming it Harley Quinn was a huge misfire.” That misfire was apparently so obvious that several theaters, including AMC, have now actually rebranded the movie as Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey in their marketing materials, at the request of Warner Bros.

In the lead-up to the film’s release, the latest DC flick was reportedly tracking to earn at least $50 million in North America over its first three days. Instead, the movie is currently on course for the lowest opening weekend of any DC adaptation since Jonah Hex, which managed just $5.3 million back in 2010.
On top of that, the feature also falls well short of the $53 million debut boasted by last year’s Shazam!, making Birds of Prey the lowest opener of the DC Extended Universe to date. According to THR, the film’s R-rating was a potential factor in the movie’s relatively underwhelming performance, restricting access for much of the Dceu’s teen fanbase. As it is, PostTrak...

Despite receiving general critical praise and boasting an 80% Fresh rating and an 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) has opened to significantly lower box office numbers than anticipated. Initially projected to score a $50-55 million opening weekend, the latest entry in the DC Extended Universe of comic book movies grossed just $13 million domestically on its first day (including Thursday previews), prompting estimates to be downwardly adjusted to $33 million.
Should it close out its first weekend around that total, it would fail to break into the top 50 superhero film openings of all time, and suffer the lowest-grossing opening weekend of any Dceu movie by a wide margin, falling more than $20 million short of Shazam!‘s opening total, which had itself been the previous low point. By comparison, Suicide Squad, the movie that Birds of Prey spun out of, ranks 13th with...

Despite strong critical and audience reception, Warner Bros./DC’s “Birds of Prey” is proving not to be the February box office success industry observers had hoped. The film posted a $33.2 million opening from 4,236 screens — the lowest start for a DC Comics adaptation since the $5.3 million opening of the box office bomb “Jonah Hex” in 2010.
Heading into the weekend, trackers had been projecting an opening weekend of $55 million while Warner Bros. was more conservative with a $45 million start. An opening at that lower figure might not have been the foundation for a particularly strong February box office, but still would have been a decent return on investment for Warner. Reports on the budget for “Birds of Prey” have varied but have tended to be around $85-95 million.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two,” the “Batwoman” episode of the 2019 “Arrowverse” crossover.
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” set a strong tone with its opener Sunday night, as the Anti-Monitor hurtling through space obliterated Earth-38 and claimed its first superhero victim in Oliver Queen aka the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell). That action picked right back up with “Part Two” on Monday night’s “Batwoman,” as the assembled heroes mourned the fallen and worked together to stop the imminent apocalypse.
The episode kicked off with Sara Lance aka White Canary (Caity Lotz) and Kara Danvers aka Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) raising one to Ollie before Lyla aka Harbinger (Audrey Marie Anderson) and The Monitor (Lamonica Garrett) crashed the party and brought everyone back to reality — Anti-Matter was only growing stronger and they needed to stop it in its wake.
So Harbinger lured...
