Matt Hancock is not the first politician to enter the Australian jungle for I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.
The new series, which begins on Sunday (6 November), will see the former health secretary, who resigned in 2021 after violating his own Covid regulations, join the new batch of contestants a few days in.
His participation in the series has been condemned not only by fans, but by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who said on Tuesday (1 November) that, rather than competing in a reality series, MPs “should be working hard for their constituents in the House or in their constituencies”.
But Hancock is not the first politician to have entered the jungle.

Jake Quickenden is up for competing on 'Strictly Come Dancing'. The 27-year-old heartthrob shot to fame on 'The X Factor' in 2014 and then went from the talent show straight into the jungle on 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' on which he finished as runner-up to Carl Fogarty. As Jake - who is in a relationship with Carl's daughter Danielle - has an unquestionable reality TV pedigree he has now started to think about his next challenge and thinks he would do well on the ballroom of the BBC programme. He said: ''There was speculation around me doing 'Big Brother',...

Rylan Clark, Ashley Roberts and Ola Jordan become superheroes for Children in Need: All the pictures
Ola Jordan, Rylan Clark and Ashley Roberts have unleashed their inner superheroes for Children in Need.
They've donned lycra suits and capes to create comic book covers to celebrate the launch of the 'Be a Hero' badges.
Jordan has ditched her Strictly Come Dancing sequins and Big Brother presenter Clark has pulled on his cape for the charity event.
Also joining in on the fun is Sugababe Heidi Range, X Factor's Jake Quickenden and Pussycat Doll, Ashley Roberts
Two bespoke designs of the 'Be A Hero' badge are now on sale at the Post Office, priced at £1 each with all of the proceeds going directly to BBC Children in Need.
Rylan Clark said: "If I could have any superpower I'd be a shape-shifter. Imagine! I could be Pudsey one day, then shift into something really boring so I could go to the shops without being noticed."

Ever get a feeling of déjà vu while you're watching The X Factor? That's because after 11 series and hundreds of contestants, the live shows have seen a whopping 728 tracks performed so far. But like a wedding DJ reaching for his failsafe party anthems CD, the top five most popular songs have been dusted off and rolled out over 33 times between them.
Our geeky rules state that we're counting all live show performances and group songs, but not repeat performances from the same act in the same series.
=5. 'Feeling Good': 6 performances
Performed by: Beverley Trotman, Rachel Hylton, Stacey Solomon, James Arthur, Rebecca Ferguson, Andrea Faustini
Made famous by Nina Simone, this classic usually pops up in the traditional 'Big Band Week', and is a good excuse for an act to show off their sultry side. Stacey had a go with Michael Bublé in 2009, while Andrea tried out a more powerhouse version last year.

Speaking alongside James Corden, who is soon to depart to present The Late Late Show on CBS, Ross said: "I've got no advice for James because he – okay, I'm going to tell you something that I don't think James knew – years and years and years ago, when David Letterman first moved to CBS, I was offered that show, believe it or not, and I turned it down for two reasons.

Two Overs in The X Factor Grand Finale. Who'd-a-thunk it?
Fleur East and Ben Haenow have beaten off Jack Walton, Stereo Kicks and Stevi Ritchie (oh, behave!) to make it to Wembley tonight.
And although we won't be seeing Andi Peters at the CD printing press (more for shame), we can expect more Louis Walsh, celebratory sausages and One Direction.
Crack out the eggnog and join Digital Spy as we await the news of whether Fleur or Ben will follow the illustrious steps of Shayne Ward, Steve Brookstein and Leon Jackson to take The X Factor crown.
Even more exciting than that, we're also hoping for an update on whether Labrinth ever had his wisdom teeth out...

21:59There are too many X Factor finalists there with shaved sides of their heads.

Speaking about whether it's important to win The X Factor at today's final press conference, Cowell said: "I think in any competition, if you don't want to win, that tells me you haven't got that killer instinct to do well in the real world, if you're happy to come fourth or tenth and ended up in the jungle..."
As Louis Walsh giggled "Miaow", Cowell continued: "It's not, 'Miaow', it's true. What we want on this show are people who want to be recording artists in the real world.

After doing this, and winning one star, 1,500 crickets were added into the mix. Jake lasted another minute and won a second star.

She follows Tinchy Stryder and Kendra Wilkinson, who left yesterday (Friday, December 5).
When asked by Ant and Dec how she felt about leaving the camp, Edwina joked that she had been crossing her fingers as they made the announcement.
Edwina added that the jungle was "completely different" to what she expected, saying: "I thought it would be horrible and was prepared to grit my teeth and do it, but they were a terrific bunch of people.
"Physically, it was very hard - I had done a fair bit of camping but not like this."
Edwina had clashed with both Kendra Wilkinson and Melanie Sykes during her time in the jungle, claiming that Kendra was selfish after hearing her discuss with Michael Buerk what it was like to live life in front of cameras.

Mel Sykes, Carl 'Foggy' Fogarty, Edwina Currie and Jake Quickenden all take part in the Cyclone task, which sees the celebrities attempt to place four stars on four markers.
As they try and do this, water, wind and coloured balls are aimed towards them.
Dressed in superhero capes, the celebs wait for a fireball to signal the start of the challenge.
Currie goes first and successfully gets to the first marker, before Dec waves the checkered flag to indicate that the next celebrity can go.
Last night's show saw Kendra Wilkinson and Tinchy Stryder leave the camp in a double elimination.
I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! continues tonight on ITV at 9.30pm.
