In Robert Hloz’s sci-fi feature debut “Restore Point,” second chances are big business.
In the year 2041, anyone who has an unnatural death has the right to be brought back to life, provided they’ve dutifully created a backup of their personality called a “restore point.”
Naturally, some object to the notion of artificially extending life ad infinitum, wherein the story begins to get complicated.
“I wanted to make a sci-fi film since I was a little kid,” Hloz says, “but I would never guess that it will happen to be my debut. I thought maybe third, fourth film.”
But, as the Czech director recalls, he found himself going through notes for film ideas from screenwriter Tomislav Cecka and one of them began to loom large.
“He came up with an idea for a very realistic sci-fi about our society in the near future, where people can be restored if something bad happens to them,...

He and his wife, Ida, perished on the sinking ship after refusing to board a lifeboat because there were women and children who had yet to be saved. In one of the film’s final scenes, Palter’s character embraces his wife (played by Elsa Raven) in their stateroom as water rushes in.
Wendy Rush, the wife of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush who died last week on a dive in a submersible to the wreck of the Titanic, is a great-great-granddaughter of the Strauses — as is the singer King Princess.

King Princess is not impressed by wealthy people who take big risks. The singer (real name Mikaela Straus) is the great-great-granddaughter of Idisor and Ida Straus, who died when the Titanic sank in April 1912, and she has offered up an opinion about the Titan submersible, which killed five people when it imploded.
“I think there is a cycle of bajonga-jillionaires wanting to explore shit and then dying,” King Princess said on TikTok in a video that has since been taken down (via Entertainment Weekly). “Like, look at my fucking family,...

The wife of OceanGate CEO and pilot of the submarine, Stockton Rush, is said to be a descendant of two Titanic passengers who died when the ship sank more than 100 years ago.
The New York Times reported Wendy Rush — who is director of communications at OceanGate — is the great-great-granddaughter of Macy’s co-owner Isidor and his wife Ida Straus, according to People.

In a difficult-to-believe coincidence, Wendy Rush, wife of the OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who also piloted the still-missing submersible that was exploring the Titanic wreckage, is a descendent of two of the most famous victims from the passenger liner sinking in 1912.
That would be Isidor and Ida Straus, who were portrayed in James Cameron’s 1997 film “Titanic” as embracing in bed as the Titanic sinks.
Isidor Straus was a co-owner of Macy’s department store, making him and his wife two of the wealthiest people aboard the Titanic during its voyage. Survivors say Isidor refused to take a lifeboat seat he was offered before all women and children were helped off the ship, and Ida refused to leave without her husband of 40 years. Unlike the film, the two were seen standing on the ship’s deck as it went down rather than in their room, but they were still locked arm-in-arm.
