This article contains spoilers for The Umbrella Academy season 3.
With the conclusion of The Umbrella Academy’s third season, the show finds itself in some uncharted territory. Not only is the Hargreeves family once again lost in parts unknown, trying to find their way in a new-ish reality without their powers, but so too is the plot without a road map for the first time.
While each of The Umbrella Academy’s first three seasons has roughly corresponded to one of the three volumes of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comic series, the show has no volume four to draw from. This means that The Umbrella Academy season 4 will have to go its own way.
According to Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman, however, that should all be just fine.
“From the time I started on the show five years ago and met Gerard, he talked a lot about where he wanted to go.

Netflix has announced that fans of "The Umbrella Academy" will get to spend a little bit more quality time with the Hargreeves — right before the superhero family says their final farewell. The Brellies have been renewed for a fourth and final season, marking the conclusion of the hit series based on the comic book series from Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. Expect to see all your favorite return: Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore are all set to reprise their roles as members of the wildly dysfunctional superhero family.
Prepare for one last season of dance sequences, sibling showdowns, and screaming funny words like kugelblitz. But while it's sad to see "The Umbrella Academy" say their goodbyes, it's a relief that the series will get a season to wrap up rather than going out on a massive cliffhanger.

Netflix has renewed “The Umbrella Academy” for a fourth and final season, the streamer said Thursday. Writer, showrunner, director, and executive producer Steve Blackman isn’t going anywhere, though: he’ll write and produce new series and “other projects” at Netflix under his newly established Irish Cowboy production banner, the company said, and is currently developing video-game adaptation “Horizon Zero Dawn” and original concept “Orbital.”

Almost two years after the second season of The Umbrella Academy, Netflix’s multi-season adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s award-winning, comic-book series for Dark Horse Comics, the third season arrives on the struggling streaming platform not a moment too soon (or too late). That's especially so, considering that the second season, like the first, ended on a supremely tantalizing cliffhanger setting the title characters, a dysfunctional superhero family adopted by an eccentric billionaire with a dubious agenda, Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore), against an alternate timeline version of the team filled not with alternate selves (one exception notwithstanding), but an entirely new, different superhero team, the Sparrow Academy, less superficially dysfunctional and far more efficient than their deposed contemporaries. Given the set-up of strangers claiming...

There’s never a dull moment in the life of The Umbrella Academy.
After narrowly averting (or more accurately: running away from) an apocalypse in season 1, Reginald Hargreeves’ mismatched family of crimefighters went back to the 1960s in season 2…where they averted another apocalypse. In season 3, set to arrive on June 22, the Umbrellas have made it back to what they think is the correct timeline, only to discover the place they thought was their home is now the headquarters of The Sparrow Academy. And oh yeah, all those temporal shenanigans have created a time paradox that will lead to yet another apocalypse in four days.
Or at least that’s what we can glean from the first official trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 3, released today by Netflix. While previous looks into the third season of the show have teased out The Sparrow Academy, this one fully articulates that the...

In Season 3 of “The Umbrella Academy,” the gifted Hargreeves siblings have found a new foe in the rival Sparrow Academy, which took their place during a time traveling mission to save the world. Netflix dropped the official trailer Thursday, giving fans a look at the insanity to come, including countless fight sequences, mysterious powers and a kugelblitz — a black hole formed from radiation that threatens to swallow the entire universe.
“When we jumped here, we created a time paradox. Our little paradox brought forth a kugelblitz,” Aidan Gallagher’s Number Five says in the trailer.
“What the hell is a kugelblitz?,” Elliot Page’s Viktor Hargeeves asks. “Essentially, we’re screwed,” Number Five responds.
This season, fans will also see changes in Page’s character, who was re-named Viktor from Vanya after Page came out as transgender in 2020. In March, Page announced that his character will also come out as trans on the new season.

Netflix has released first look images for “The Umbrella Academy” Season 3, offering a glimpse at the new timeline (and fight for the future) awaiting the oddball heroes in the new season.
After shutting down a 1963 apocalypse in Season 2, the Hargreeves, aka the Umbrella Academy, return home to the present day for a quick breather and short-lived relief over saving the timeline. But it doesn’t take long to realize they’ve changed the timeline more than they expected, and along with the realization that things are not completely Ok, comes the Sparrow Academy: a chilly, clever and fashionable group that clashes with the Umbrellas as soon as they enter the story. An unknown violent force causes damage (possibly thanks to them), bringing the Umbrellas to enlist Dad’s new family to help them correct something they may have caused while trying to fix the Universe’s timeline.

You've binged every season of "The Umbrella Academy" and made your way through the graphic novels — written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá — that they were based on. So, what's next? Here are some comics to check out if you like "The Umbrella Academy" and want to read something with a similar vibe and/or subject matter. There are a lot of reasons to love "The Umbrella Academy," and most of those reasons can be partially found in other comics.

The third season of “The Umbrella Academy” will premiere on June 22, showrunner Steve Blackman announced at SXSW on Sunday. Netflix also dropped first-look images of the cast and a Season 3 teaser, which shows the Umbrella Academy face-to-face with their new counterparts, the Sparrow Academy.
After going back in time to 1963 and saving the world at the end of Season 2, the new season will pick up where the Hargreeves siblings left off. In an altered timeline, Reginald created the Sparrow Academy, a stylish and smart group of superheroes that mirrors the Umbrella Academy. After a violent confrontation, the two groups must learn to team up and defeat a new entity that threatens to destroy everything. The logline from Netflix asks, “Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”

"The Umbrella Academy" is one of the more intriguing comic book adapatations currently running. Based on the Dark Horse Comics series by writer Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá, the show follows the exploits of the Hargreeves family, a group of seven super-powered siblings who gather together after their father's death to prevent the end of the world. This concept has lasted throughout two seasons so far, gaining critical acclaim and approval from fans of the comic. Speaking as one of those fans, I've enjoyed how the series delves into the dysfunctional relationship between the Hargreeves and their outright toxic relationship with their father, and the filmmakers manage...

But scenes like that aren’t the only way visual effects play an important role in telling the story. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

It is raining cash on “The Umbrella Academy” cast.
Variety has learned from sources that the majority of the show’s core cast — Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min — has netted a substantial pay raise going into the hit Netflix-UCP show’s third season.
According to multiple sources, the six actors banded together ahead of the season to ask for a pay raise, with each of them now earning more than $200,000 per episode. According to a person familiar with the series, fellow cast member Elliot Page also received a raise but was not directly involved in the group’s renegotiation. Page came into the series earning a higher rate as he was the most established star at the outset. Page was said to be supportive of the group’s effort, however.

How many crime-fighting superhero families can the world of The Umbrella Academy accommodate? Well, guess we’ll find out soon.
For those of you who don’t recall, the conclusion of The Umbrella Academy season 2 introduced a second Umbrella-style superhero team: The Sparrow Academy. After saving the world in 1960s Dallas, the Hargreeves’ children returned home to their Umbrella Academy mansion only to find that it was occupied by a different “Academy”, this one calling themselves The Sparrows. What’s more is that one of their own, the dearly departed Ben Hargreeves (Justin H. Min) was both alive and a Sparrow member.
At the time, this was a helpful lesson that time travel has its consequences. Now, however, it’s clearer than ever that The Sparrow Academy is here to stay and will remain a big part of the already-announced Umbrella Academy season 3. Netflix today announced the casting of all seven Sparrow Academy members.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 3 Unveils Cast For Sparrow Academy Which Includes… A Telekinetic Cube?
The end of the second season of The Umbrella Academy left us with the introduction of an alternate 2019 which included a very much alive Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) and someone who seemed to be Ben (Justin H. This new mysterious group of kids aren’t necessarily doppelgangers to the original Umbrella Academy, but they might as well be.

Netflix‘s The Umbrella Academy delivered an excellent second season this year, which saw the Hargreeves siblings displaced to the 1960s, and facing another apocalyptic event. The streamer clearly have big plans for the series, too, which will reportedly have at least three more outings, and a new study of subscriber tastes has now revealed it to be the most popular Netflix original program in 2020. While this ranking applies to the US only, The Umbrella Academy has arguably been a resounding hit with critics and audiences worldwide.
According to the findings, the superhero-themed show ranked at the top of the streaming charts in seventeen US states, enabling to beat out other favorites such as Glow and Orange is the New Black. Through two seasons, Netflix superhero team The Umbrella Academy hasn’t had terribly good luck in averting the apocalypse. Maybe the third time’s the charm.
Netflix has not yet confirmed the existence of The Umbrella Academy season 3 but according to a new report from Production Weekly, filming on a new season is set to begin on February 1, 2021 before wrapping up in August. That puts the third season on track for a potential mid-2022 release. In lieu of an official Netflix announcement, a Production Weekly post is the next best thing as the subscription-based trade exhaustively tracks all upcoming productions. Also included in the latest report were start dates for Loki season 2, Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8, and The Mandalorian season 3.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 was always all but a given for Netflix in the first place. According to the company’s own metrics, the darkly funny series is among the most popular shows on the service.
