The Screambox Original documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story is now streaming on Screambox, and it’s next coming to VHS!
A limited edition of only 50 copies worldwide, the VHS copies of the Englund documentary will go up for grabs on Saturday, April 27 at 12pm Est on Lunchmeat’s official website.
Josh Schafer of Lunchmeat explains, “With so many of Englund’s works being seen and familiarized on videotape, it only felt right to offer fans and collectors the opportunity to experience this fantastic doc on VHS. We all know the Freddy movies just feel different on videocassette, and we wanted to bring that feel to this film for those who want it.”
“Since first donning a tattered fedora and a glove of eviscerating blades in 1984, Robert Englund has become a beloved horror icon. His portrayal of Freddy Krueger is without doubt a moment as visceral to the...

Since shifting its focus from first-run films to cult classics nearly a decade ago, the Mahoning Drive-In Theater in Lehighton, Pennsylvania — a rural borough about 75 miles northeast of Philadelphia — has thrived as a haven for genre fans. Zombie Fest, Godzilla-palooza, Troma-Thon with Lloyd Kaufman, Camp Blood Slasher Celebration, Werewolf Weekend, and John Waters’ Filthy Film Fest are just a few of the events programmed this season.
I made the trek to the cinematic mecca for the seventh annual Drive-In VHS Fest on July 7-8, where I vended Broke Horror Fan’s line of modern horror films on VHS alongside my partner in 4:3, Witter Entertainment. The event was established in 2017 when Mahoning stalwart Virgil Cardamone worked with Josh Schafer and Ted Gilbert of Lunchmeat VHS — whose VHS preservation efforts include producing new and classic titles on the format, publishing a magazine, and selling themed merchandise — to curate a two-night event...

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is launching a publishing arm, with its debut title focusing on the significant (if overlooked) role played by VHS tapes in the evolution of film as a medium. Video historian Josh Schafer’s book, Stuck On VHS: A Visual History of Video Store Stickers, makes a case for film preservation from an unexpected angle. It showcases the small but distinctive messages and retrospective aesthetic that have been applied to artifacts any Gen-x cinephile will instantly recognize: former rental videocassettes.
