In what feels like the longest Droughtlander of them all, Starz revealed Thursday that its hit series Outlander will return with Season 7, Part 2 in November.
Season 7 is an extra-large extended season with 16 episodes split into two parts. The release of Part 2 was delayed about a year due to the writers and actors strikes. To catch up before then, every season, including Season 7, Part 1, is currently available to stream via the Starz app.
Inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s international bestsellers, Outlander follows Claire (Caitríona Balfe), a married former World War II nurse who in 1946 finds herself transported back to Scotland in 1743. Claire finds her true love was living in the past, dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Each season, their love story expands, with Claire taking occasional trips into the future, and new characters are introduced into their tale.

The Droughtlander is over! Outlander has returned to Starz, and the Fraser family is reckoning with the reality that they cannot hide from the Revolutionary War. Everyone will have to make the choice to join the fight or stay out of it.
Den Of Geek spoke to showrunner Maril Davis and returning actors Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, David Berry, and John Bell, plus new to this season actors Charles Vandervaart, Joey Phillips, and Izzy Meikle-Small, to get the behind-the-scenes scoop on how Outlander is bringing a character-focused perspective to history that viewers are already familiar with.
Although Outlander Season 7 is split into two halves, all 16 episodes were filmed together, which Davis admits she initially found daunting. “I thought it would be worse than it was,” she says. “I thought season one was a challenge. I...

Like father like son. Too bad they’re on opposite sides of the American Revolution. Jamie Frasier’s (Sam Heughan) little boy is now all grown up and a redcoat. Brave William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) — who still doesn’t know Jamie’s his true dad — goes on a wild ride in the fourth episode of Outlander when he’s tasked with delivering a secret message for the British. “He is really eager to serve king and country, but I don’t think he fully understands what that means, the loss that he’ll experience and the brutalism of it all. He finds out very quickly, obviously,” Vandervaart, who joined the time travel saga this season, tells us in the fourth installment of our Inside Outlander aftershow. He joins actors David Berry and John Bell to talk about the events of Episode 4 and hint about what’s to come. Something that...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Outlander Season 7, Episode 2, “The Happiest Place on Earth.”] Outlander is drawing a line in the sand between longtime friends Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Lord John Grey (David Berry) in the latest Season 7 episode, “The Happiest Place on Earth.” Once on opposing sides during the Jacobite rebellion in Scotland, the Revolutionary War in America also puts them on different sides of the fight, which Jamie intends to avoid, considering his biological son William’s (Charles Vandervaart) involvement in the fight. Still, the men agreed to maintain their friendship through it all, even if Berry hints at hardships ahead. (Credit: Starz) “Lord John and Jamie find themselves on opposite sides of the war,” the actor notes. Lord John’s a loyalist, and Jamie is a rebel. These two have come to a point in their relationship where it’s pretty much untenable.” While they part ways in the episode with positivity...

Our hearts broke for Jamie Fraser, played subtly and sensitively by Sam Heughan, in Outlander‘s second episode of Season 7, which often touched on the powerful Scottish Highland warrior’s vulnerable side as he suffered loss after loss. We spoke to the actor about the emotional events in our latest installment of the aftershow, Inside Outlander. “He’s having to say goodbye to John Grey [David Berry]; to his daughter [Bree, played by Sophie Skelton]; to his grandchildren. He’s losing a lot and I think that cumulatively wounds him. We always thought Jamie has great fortitude and great strength, but it does have a toll,” Heughan tells us. Check out the video above, where the actor reflects on the farewells; poor Jamie had to endure not one but two goodbyes to Bree, including her and husband Roger’s (Richard Rankin) departure through the stones to get medical treatment for their new baby in the 20th Century.

After keeping us in Fraser’s Ridge for multiple seasons — featuring a slew of frustrating but not always interesting villains, and at the cusp of the Revolutionary War — “Outlander” Season 7 feels like a breath of fresh air.
The season premiere begins where we’ve been before: a determined Jamie (Sam Heughan) with Ian (John Bell) at his side, out to save his beloved Claire (Caitríona Balfe) from being tried for the death of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds). Claire, meanwhile, does what she can to survive — and she has truly perfected the art of keeping her wits about her while facing impending doom.
But unlike other seasons that bludgeoned and violated our heroine in unnecessarily graphic ways, we’re given a respite here. Instead, Claire’s looming trial and potential execution are delayed in part thanks to her skills as a doctor and because of the era’s political unrest, with Jamie always one step behind.

The final season of “Outlander” is almost here and the cast are placing their bets on how it all ends.
The show’s leads, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, are just hoping for a happy ending for their tragic couple.
“I don’t know, but I would like to see them happy at the end,” Balfe told Et Canada’s Keisha Chante when asked to predict the ending of the show. “You know, I would like to see them just sitting on a porch, being able to put their feet up, have a nice cup of tea.”
While they hoped for greener pastures for their characters, some of the other cast members had more extreme predictions.

Star Caitríona Balfe and executive producer Maril Davis participated in a Women of Outlander panel at Austin's annual Atx TV Festival today, where the clips were first revealed during a panel discussion focused on the women in front of and behind the camera who are involved in creating this groundbreaking series.
The first clip shows Jamie in a reflective mood as he speaks to Claire about his feelings.
"I dream of the past," he shares.
"Why would I not dream of the future?"
Check out the clip below.
It shows our favorite characters at peace, which we rarely see on this show.

“Outlander” is giving fans a little more time before they have to say goodbye — and giving subscribers more of a reason to sign up for a full year instead of just a few months. Season 7 of the time-travel romance will air in two parts, Starz said on Wednesday, with the first half airing this year and the second half waiting for 2024.
Season 7, as previously announced, consists of 16 episodes, the show’s highest order count since Season 1. Like Season 1, which aired in 2014 and 2015, Season 7 will be split into two eight-episode bunches — the “Droughtlander” is officially over on June 16. “Outlander” has already been renewed for a final Season 8, which will consist of 10 episodes and presumably air in 2025 or later.
It is currently unclear if the show, based on Diana Gabaldon’s series of historical-fantasy romance novels, will completely adapt the entire saga. Each season of “Outlander” thus far has adapted (roughly) one...

Say, could that lass be … Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Sinead O’Connor!
As a Valentine’s Day gift to “Outlander” fans worldwide, premium cable network Starz released the upcoming Season 7 version of the blockbuster series’ stunning opening titles sequence, this time featuring Irish songstress O’Connor crooning the show’s rousing theme song “The Skye Boat Song.”
Each season, the opening tune has been adapted to suit that season’s storylines, and has been performed by men and women, in both English and Gaelic, and at times it has featured orchestral instrumentation and even Caribbean-influenced percussion.
“We are honored,” proclaims series showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts about O’Connor lending her vocals to the iconic theme song. “Her rendition is, for me, a reminder of all that’s beautiful about ‘Outlander.’ She is talented beyond measure,” he says in Starz’s media release.

Heughan’s co-stars Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin point out key locations on the set, including where Bree met her real dad for the very first time.
Both Skelton and Rankin take the time to show off the cabin where their characters had their first love scene.
The set’s massive and Sam Heughan confirms it’s grown considerably over the years as they add more and more frontage. “Some of these buildings are only fronts. Others are indoor/outdoor,” explains Heughan, adding that one of his favorite new constructions is the Red Falcon that was built in season six.
“So in the middle of Scotland, we have this beautiful early American town and there’s more to come,” says Skelton.

Starz delivered mixed news for fans of Outlander who are currently suffering through Droughtlander. The popular series based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling books has been renewed for season eight. Unfortunately, that eighth season will be the show’s final season.
In the one-minute video accompanying the renewal announcement, Sam Heughan notes that every good story has to come to an end. John Bell promises that the series will go out with a bang. The video also features clips from Outlander events, and Heughan and Caitriona Balfe profusely thanking the fans for being there for the series since episode one.
Season seven will consist of 16 episodes and is set to premiere this summer. Season eight will consist of 10 episodes.

Jamie and Claire's story is coming to a close.
Starz revealed today that Outlander has been picked up for an eighth and final season, but the premium cabler has placed a series order for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel series from Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, and Maril Davis, who also serve as executive producers of the original series.
The 10-episode prequel series will center on the lives and relationship of Jamie Fraser's parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.
"'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain," says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner and executive producer.
He continues, "the title is a nod to Jamie Fraser's marriage vow to Claire...

Outlander is coming to an end at Starz — but the saga of the Fraser family is not.
The premium cable outlet will bring Outlander to a close with an eighth and final season. The news comes several months ahead of a planned summer premiere for season seven of the time-traveling historical romance, based on Diana Gabaldon’s series of novels. The series will end as the longest-running original in Starz history.
The final season will run 10 episodes, while the forthcoming seventh season will have 16 installments.
“For nearly a decade Outlander has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and we’re pleased to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion,” said Kathryn Busby, president original programming at Starz. “But before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes and even more to explore of this...

Put on your kilts and break out the bagpipes in mourning: “Outlander” is coming to an end. The hit Starz TV series has been renewed for an eighth and final season, the premium cable channel announced Thursday. The news comes ahead of Season 7 of the series, which will premiere in Summer 2023.
The news makes it unclear if the show, which is based Diana Gabaldon’s series of historical fantasy romance novels, will adapt the most recent installment, 2021’s “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.” Each season of “Outlander” has thus far roughly adapted one book in the series, with the upcoming seventh season set to cover 2009’s “An Echo in the Bone” and Season 8 presumably covering 2014’s “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.” That said, Season 7 is set to have an extended 16-episode run, while Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes, so its possible that longer length can help cover all three books.
