Once Upon a One More Time will play its final Broadway performance Sept. 3.
The musical, which features the songs of Britney Spears and a storyline about fairytale princesses in search of enlightenment, began preview performances at the Marquis Theatre on May 13 and opened June 22. Spears approved the musical and suggested its initial themes. She also signed an underlying rights agreement with the show, which was notably one of the first deals Spears signed since a judge terminated her conservatorship.
The closing notice comes as the musical failed to catch on with critics and with Broadway audiences, with the show reporting capacities in the 50 percent range for the past seven weeks. In the last publicly reported week of grosses, ended Aug. 13, the musical grossed its lowest eight-performance week yet, bringing in $512,008.

Once Upon A One More Time is one of the first Britney Spears-backed projects following the termination of her 13-year conservatorship.
Helmed by directors and choreographers Keone and Mari Madrid, with an original story by Jon Hartmere, the musical comedy is slated to open on June 22 at the Marquis Theater and will feature hits like “Oops I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Circus” and “Toxic.”
Ahead of its Broadway run, Once Upon a One More Time attempted a pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago beginning in 2019. Initially set for the James M. Nederlander Theatre in October, it would be delayed, and the opening rescheduled for April 2020. But in March, the pandemic shut down the theater industry, with the show’s producers eventually deciding to cancel the planned engagement altogether.

You may know him as Broadway's bespectacled 'Newsie' who whipped off multiple ballet turns atop a sheet of newspaper. Maybe you spotted him as a lost boy in NBC's Peter Pan Live, or caught his sensitive portrayal of Baby John in the revival of West Side Story. But Ryan Steele has graduated from adolescent roles and is ready to take on leading man status this fall in the national tour of An American In Paris.

If only verisimilitude equaled quality. But unfortunately, schmaltzy music and drab melodrama drag down the otherwise graceful moves of Five Dances. Writer-director Alan Brown uses the classic elements of a backstage drama: Chip (Ryan Steele) has landed a solo with a high-profile choreographer only a few months after coming to New York. His dedication and late nights rehearsing at the studio belie larger personal problems. Chip doesn't have anywhere to live, and crashes on the loft floor in a sleeping bag; his redneck, alcoholic, homophobic mom has lost her house and wants him to come back to Kansas (why having a second person to take care of would help this situation is never explained); he's internalized his homophobia, remains sullen and withdrawn, and lashes out at a fellow ...

The Wolfe Releasing company has acquired the U.S. digital and DVD rights to the film "Five Dances." The director Alan Brown ("Private Romeo", "Book of Love") teamed up once again with cinematographer Derek McKane to capture the story of Chip (Ryan Steele's first film role) as he joins a small dance company in and around Soho. There Chip is initiated into the rites of passage of a New York dancer's life, where discipline and endless hard work, the fear of not being good enough, and his first-ever love affair unfolds. "Five Dances" will debut on VOD and DVD in 2014, following a limited theatrical release beginning October 4th. "Alan Brown is an enormously talented writer-director and we’re thrilled to release his wonderful new film," said Wolfe President Maria Lynn. "As emotionally nuanced as his innovative gay romance, "Private Romeo," we're confident that audiences will adore Five Dances as much as we do.

Ryan Steele talks with Out about his upcoming movie, Five Dances, in which he plays an 18-year-old ballet dancer from Kansas who leaves his life behind to head to New York to pursue his dream and has an affair with another dancer. He’s not worried about the steamy nature of the movie. “I don’t think it’s anything that’ll hurt my career. It just might give me a different sort of fan base. Dancers have a certain amount of comfort that’s a little weird to normal people. We’re physical people. We’re always changing in front of each other. There are no secrets in a dance company.”

Taking the path of being a dancer doesn't just require physical fortitude, but mental strength as well. It's an arena that's fiercely competitive, where only the very top performers have even a shot at making a career and opportunities for longevity are few and far between. And outside forces—a new relationship, a troubled family life—can shake the foundation of the pillar of resolve needed to succeed. And that's where "Five Dances" comes in. Starring Ryan Steele, Reed Luplau, Catherine Miller, Kimiye Corwin and Luke Murphy and directed by Alan Brown, the film chronicles the coming of age tale of a gifted young dancer, recently arrived in New York City, and his first love and work in the downtown contemporary dance world. Casting actual dancers and shooting in a Soho dance studio, the films aims to capture the real vibrancy and creative spirit of that world, and judging by the trailer of the film,...

David here, with an interview from Private Romeo director Alan Brown on his latest film Five Dances, which opened this year's Fringe! Film Festival in London, a celebration of multiple queer films and artists.

‘I purposely wanted to test myself – I wanted to work in a freer environment. And it was terrifying - purposely so!’ Alan Brown laughs as he describes the genesis of his latest feature. Five Dances received its European premiere as the opening night of the third London Fringe! Film Festival, a volunteer-run festival that has quickly grown in stature since 2011.
Five Dances is Brown’s fourth feature, following the great success of his homo-Shakespeare adaptation Private Romeo, currently available to watch instantly on Netflix. Brown slides together dance and drama as he tells the story of Chip (Ryan Steele), a young dancer who’s moved from smalltown Kansas to...

It seems the only thing I've ever written about Olly Murs is how famous his bulge is in the UK. Beyond that, I really knew nothing about him, until now. When Heat magazine inquired about the source of that bulge, Olly claims to be packing a whopping 13cm. For those of us not on the metric system, that's about 5.2 inches, which doesn't seem to match up with the physical evidence.
As the details of the encounters with Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash and accuser number three come out, the claims are fairly shocking, with tales of alcohol and role playing that emphasized the difference in ages between Clash and the sixteen year old. I keep hoping this isn't true.
Slate posits that the rise in marriage equality hasn't made the United States queerer, if anything it's made the gay community more bourgeois. The recent vote to ban public nudity in San Francisco is used as evidence,...

Ryan Reynolds is in final discussions to play the title role in the reboot of Highlander. I used to love the television show, but this feels like another unnecessary reboot.
The NAACP has passed a resolution supporting marriage equality. “Civil marriage is a civil right and a matter of civil law,” says NAACP president Benjamin Todd Jealous.
As the Facebook Ipo fizzled (funny how a magic $100 billion appearing is a fizzle), Bono was reportedly set to reap a lot of money through his Elevation Partners, which purchased 2.3% of the company two years ago. Word was, he'd become the world's richest musician, surpassing Sir Paul McCartney's $1 billion net worth. But Bono says that the stock is owned by many partners, and the news of his ascension to billionaire is grossly exaggerated.
