- Graduated Summa Cum Laude from University of Memphis 2004 with Majors in Foreign Languages, Philosophy, and Political Science with a Minor in Economics.
- Spent a summer in Fortaleza, Brazil in 2003, taking intensive immersion Portuguese while getting his Masters Degree from Vanderbilt.
- Spent a summer in Chicoutimi, Quebec, taking intensive immersion courses, and spent most of his time with the then-leader of the Parti Quebecois Jeunes, leading him to sign up as the only PQ member from the state of Tennessee.
- Founded, designed, built, owns and runs The Packing Plant, a commercial building housing several art galleries and art-based non-profits in Nashville, TN.

- Lived in Spain twice: once during the summer of 2000, and then moved back right after 9/11 (2001-2002) and had his bank accounts frozen, forcing him to survive on the kindness of strangers in the town of Murcia.
- Older brother of Jacob Sewell, best known for playing "Bunny Boy" in Gummo by Harmony Korine.
- Played drums for the garage rock band Cheap Time, performing on the S/T debut LP (released by In The Red records) and touring for several years, most notably opening up for Jay Reatard on several tours, shortly before his death.
- A high school dropout, Jon attended Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, but was asked to leave by the Headmaster. Jon got his GED while enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University, having started college instead of senior year.
- Was a Union Carpenter for 8 years (UBC Local 223 in Nashville), completing an apprenticeship and eventually becoming a General Foreman in an Exhibit/Display shop as Head of the CNC Department.
