First Contact, the latest film from writer/director Bruce Wemple, sees him mixing the monster movie themes that he’s used in films like Dawn of the Beast with the time travel and sci-fi concepts from Lake Artifact and The Tomorrow Job with a hint of Lovecraftian cosmic terror. Add in some musings about family and the result is an entertaining if somewhat muddled, film.
Dr. Ian Bradach is a scientist working on something that seems incredibly important, finds his work interrupted by the arrival of a creature who we can’t really see, but we can tell is very hostile. It all ends with a column of bright white light exploding skyward.
From there we join Casey as she arrives at her father’s house. Her estranged brother Dan...

Devil’s Triangle is the latest film from The Asylum, kings of the mockbuster, who – this time around – give us an original story, set in that most famous of mysterious “landmarks”, the Bermuda Triangle. And who doesn’t love a good Bermuda Triangle movie? Hollywood certainly does. Hell, we got an entire TV show inspired by the urban legend.
Devil’s Triangle reminded me very much of 1978’s The Return of Captain Nemo – that film, at the time, married old-fashioned tech with modern-day stylings, whereas Devil’s Triangle takes futuristic elements of the Atlanteans and transplants wonder-day folk into them. And given that I’ve always Loved The Return of Captain Nemo, I felt...

It would seem that the legend of Bigfoot just won’t go away, every decade seems to bring with a new sighting of the monster and a wealth of new films about the subject. And this decade is no different… In fact, Dawn of the Beast is not the first Bigfoot movie we’ve reviewed in the past year and undoubtedly won’t be the last.
Actually the reason this isn’t the first Bigfoot film we’ve reviewed in the past year is because about 8 months ago we covered a Bigfoot film called Monstrous, which was directed by Bruce Wemple and written by Anna Shields. And guess what? Dawn of the Beast is from the pair too! And they’ve thrown in the wendigos from Wemple’s other film,...

"There's an unspeakable evil living out in those woods." Uncork'd has debuted an official trailer for another new Bigfoot movie, this one titled Dawn of the Beast. This is from the same guy who made Monstrous, also written by and co-starring Anna Shields just like this one, and also about some students encountering a murderous Sasquatch in the woods. In Dawn of the Beast, a group of graduate students get more than they bargained for while searching for the legendary Bigfoot. Not only is he real, but there's something far more evil lurking in the shadows – the Wendigo. This film stars Adrian Burke, Ariella Mastroianni, Grant Schumacher, and Anna Shields. It kinda plays like a sort-of-sequel to Monstrous, adding in the Wendigo for even more horrifying fun to turn Bigfoot into the hero by the end. All those creatures are creepy as hell. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Bruce Wemple...

It’s maybe a little surprising that there isn’t actually that many horror movies centered around the legend of Bigfoot. The most well known is perhaps the 1972 cult fake documentary horror The Legend of Boggy Creek, which is much more entertaining than you might expect. The Blair Witch Project director Eduardo Sanchez created my favourite Bigfoot film with the found-footage-style movie Exists in 2014. So I am always happy to see a new movie based on the legendary ‘creature’.
In Monstrous we see a young woman, Sylvia (Anna Shields – who also wrote the movie) searching for her friend who has gone missing in an area that is known for its Bigfoot sightings. Her search though leads her to find things other than the monster.

"You haven't seen what I've seen." Uncork'd Entertainment has released an official trailer for Monstrous, yet another new Bigfoot horror thriller. There have been more and more of these Sasquatch horror films popping up recently - Hoax and Exists (always one word titles!). A young woman goes searching for answers after her friend mysteriously vanishes in Whitehall, NY. Where she discovers something truly sinister hiding in the woods. Why do they keep repeating the "Bigfoot can't be real!? No way!" plot when that's such a been there, done that aspect utilized so many times before. Monstrous stars Anna Shields, Rachel Finninger, Grant Schumacher, Hannah McKechnie, Catharine Daddario, Dylan Grunn, Peter Stray, and Rick Montgomery Jr. Nothing much to see here, move along folks... This one looks especially forgettable. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Bruce Wemple's Monstrous, direct from YouTube: Sylvia (Anna Shields), a lonely 20-something, goes...

"I gave you a home, I didn't give you my name!" The Orchard has debuted a new official trailer for an indie film titled The Song of Sway Lake, a funky musical fable of sorts about a boy who tries to steal a rare vinyl record from his own family's estate. Rory Culkin stars in this as Ollie, and the cast includes Robert Sheehan, Isabelle McNally, Mary Beth Peil, Elizabeth Peña, Jack Falahee, Brian Dennehy, and Anna Shields. This is actually, strangely enough, supposedly a musical featuring vocal performances by Brian Dennehy, John Grant, and The Staves. This looks wacky and weird and a bit too strange to actually be any good, but you never know. If you think any of this sounds compelling, then check out the trailer below. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Ari Gold's The Song of Sway Lake, direct from YouTube: A...

"Now Will, what you're about to see may surprise you." Gravitas Ventures has debuted a trailer for Bruce Wemple's indie sci-fi feature Altered Hours, which first premiered at a genre festival back in 2016 under the title The Tomorrow Paradox. The film is finally getting released this year. It's about an experimental sleep aid that sends a man's mind one day into the future, where he's the suspect in the disappearance of a girl he hasn't met -- yet. How's that for a tricky time travel-esque plot? The film stars Ryan Munzert in the lead role, with Anna Shields, plus Briana Pozner, Rick Montgomery Jr., Christopher Sanchez, and Thea McCartan. This seems like it might be cool, but the footage doesn't look great. You never know. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Bruce Wemple's Altered Hours, direct from YouTube: A young insomniac's (Ryan Munzert) black-market sleep aid sends...

If bugs bug you, then you might want to stay clear of a new horror anthology film that weaves three creepy crawler tales of terror. Creeping Crawling is set to slither onto DVD/VOD in just over a month. If you suffer from entomophobia, then consider this a warning.
John Russell Cring directs Raine Brown, Anna Shields, Chuck Girard, Sarah VonOuhl, and Laura Lafrate in this trilogy of insect insanity.
Synopsis:
You live with them, you feed them, you fear them. Creeping Crawling is an anthology featuring three tales of terror centered around things that go slither in the night.
Doug and Allison have a paper due and they're hoping an eccentric entomologist will be the lynch pin to a passing grade. They get more than they bargained for when Dr. Tarkovsky tells them the story of Grubbery and the lengths supermodel Denver will go to in order to keep her figure.
