Yoshiki, the Japanese superstar and global renaissance man in the world of music for four decades, believes his latest creative venture as film director, in some ways, saved his life.
His debut documentary feature “Yoshiki: Under the Sky” is a concert film produced during the Covid pandemic shutdowns and features musical performances with famed collaborators as diverse as Nicole Scherzinger to St. Vincent.
Yoshiki made the project because “I wanted to lift up the spirit of my fans,” he told TheWrap as part of his Screening Series interview. “That’s the main reason. But at the same time, I was also in a dark place. Trying to help people was actually helping me.”
He continued: “There were so many [Covid] restrictions. Of course, I didn’t want to cross the line, but [to explore] how human beings feel how fragile we are, how powerless we are.”

Like many entertainers during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Japanese songwriter and musician Yoshiki wanted to find a way to use his artistry to lift people’s spirits, particularly fans who wrote to him about being in a dark place during that time.
“The intention was to spread love,” Yoshiki said during a taping of THR Presents, powered by Vision Media. “At that time there were so many amazing artists doing Zoom call-like stuff from the living room or something like that, but I wanted to do something bigger than life.”
The result is the film Yoshiki: Under the Sky, a music documentary three years in the making that features performances of the composer with acts from around the globe including American Edm-Pop duo The Chainsmokers, violinist Lindsey Stirling and singer Nicole Scherzinger.

“America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” continued Monday, February 6 with the sixth and final set of 10 performances from some of the most beloved acts in “Got Talent” history. In previous installments, two acts advanced to The Finals per episode, but this week there was only one spot up for grabs. That decision came down to the superfans who chose singer Kodi Lee as the 11th all-star finalist.
Kodi’s selection meant that the nine other performers were eliminated from the competition. In a recent poll, we asked “Who was wrongfully eliminated on February 6?” and though “AGT” fans were split between two top choices, spoken word poet Brandon Leake came out on top as the artist most deserving of a spot in The Finals with 26 of the vote. Just behind him was comedian Josh Blue with 25 and singer Daneliya Tuleshova next with 18.

A social media star has taken home the mirrorball trophy. Charli D’Amelio, who has attracted nearly 150 million subscribers on her TikTok account, has won the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars.
D’Amelio, who danced competitively for a decade, became one of the internet’s top influencers by sharing her aerobic routines with her fans. The 18-year-old was TikTok’s most-followed creator until she was overtaken by Italian funnyman Khaby Lame earlier this year.
Given her history, D’Amelio was pegged as a DWTS frontrunner after she and her mother Heidi entered the show’s 31st season. Alongside partner Mark Ballas, the youngest member of the D’Amelio family got off to a strong start and only improved as the competition went along. Heading into the finale, she had chalked up four perfect scores.
As per usual, D’Amelio’s success drew some snippy comments from the peanut gallery.

It took a while, but Derek Hough finally has some company and it’s fitting that it’s from his Bff. Thanks to his win on Monday’s Season 31 finale with Charli D’Amelio, Mark Ballas has joined Hough as the only pros with at least three Mirrorball trophies on “Dancing with the Stars.”
Hough, of course, holds the record at six wins, so Ballas still has some ways to go, but this was a big hump to get over as a third win has been elusive for the pros. Before Monday, six pros had been stuck at two victories: Ballas, Cheryl Burke (who retired on the finale), Julianne Hough, Kym Johnson, Peta Murgatroyd and Val Chmerkovskiy. Julianne Hough and Johnson have long left the show, but Ballas, Burke and Chmerkovskiy have frequently made finals over the years only to come up short in the quest for three. Chermkovskiy and his...

Is Charli D’Amelio the new ‘Dancing with the Stars’ front-runner after stellar premiere performance?
Going into the “Dancing with the Stars” season 31 premiere, “American Idol” champion Jordin Sparks was the front-runner to win the Mirror Ball Trophy, according to the combined predictions of fans who gave us their forecasts here in our predictions center. She was followed closely by actor and singer Wayne Brady in our odds, but neither of them had the best score on the judges’ leaderboard on premiere night. That would be social media star Charli D’Amelio. Does that make her the new front-runner to win? Place your bets now and every week as the season progresses.
D’Amelio danced a cha cha with pro partner Mark Ballas, who returned to the show this season after a five-year absence. And he doesn’t come out of “DWTS” retirement for just anyone. He finished second with both of his last two celebrity partners: Mma fighter Paige VanZant in season 22 and musician Lindsey Stirling...

“Dancing with the Stars” judge Derek Hough holds the record for the most championships among professional dancers. He won the Mirror Ball Trophy six times over the course of his run on the show. That’s even more remarkable when you consider that no other pro dancer on the show has ever won more than two. It’s unlikely that anyone will come close to that record before the show ultimately runs its course — whenever that will be — but this season there are multiple double winners who could finally achieve that elusive hat trick.
See‘Dancing with the Stars’: Jordin Sparks and Wayne Brady are early front-runners for Mirror Ball Trophy

“Dancing with the Stars” season 31 premieres on Monday night, September 19, on its new home, Disney+, but which of the 16 celebrities will win the Mirror Ball Trophy? The celebs haven’t stepped foot in the ballroom yet, but fans have been making their predictions here in our predictions center since the cast was officially announced. So who are they betting on?
Right now it looks like a two-horse race. Jordin Sparks leads our predictions with 4/1 odds based on fans’ combined predictions. So what makes her such a strong early contender to win? Well, she’s an “American Idol” alum, just like season 16 winner Kellie Pickler. And beyond that, singers and recording artists in general have had a strong track record on “DWTS.” Consider other winners like Drew Lachey (season two), Nicole Scherzinger (season 10), and Amber Riley (season 17), and finalists like Nick Carter (season 21), Normani (season 24), Lindsey Stirling (season 25), and Ally Brooke...

The inevitable has happened. For the first time, a TikTok dancer will appear on Dancing with the Stars. And yes, of course, it’s Charli D’Amelio.
The 18-year-old star, who has been described as the “queen of TikTok,” will vie for the Mirrorball Trophy during the 31st season of the long-running competition series. To earn the top prize, D’Amelio will have to out-dance a slew of other contestants, including a member of her own family. Heidi D’Amelio, Charli’s mother, will also be part of the season 31 cast. Rather than serving as her daughter’s dance partner, Heidi will go up against her. Good luck, mom!
The younger D’Amelio will add her name to the list of internet personalities who have competed on DWTS. Other members of that group include YouTube fashionista Bethany Mota, one-time Vine star Hayes Grier, acrobatic violinist Lindsey Stirling, and YouTube standout Jojo Siwa.

Jean-Michel Jarre thought livestreamed concerts were missing something. So he added virtual drugs.
The French electronic music pioneer and former Cisac president has been one of the biggest champions of virtual-reality concerts — a concept that’s seeing a noticeable bump as coronavirus continues to stall the comeback of live music. Now that regular iPhone-camera livestreams are mainstream, many artists are looking for ways to go beyond the living room concerts that defined the first few months of quarantine, and higher-tech shows (whether headset-bound virtual-reality experiences or more casual video-game-like shows) appear particularly attractive.

On Saturday, Twitch hosted a celeb-studded marathon charity stream dubbed Stream Aid to raise money for the World Health Organization’s (Who) Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund -- whose aims are to prevent, detect, and respond to the pandemic on a global level.
The 12-hour stream, which saw appearances from YouTuber Lindsey Stirling, Joe Jonas (who faced off against top streamer Turner 'Tfue' Tenney in a Fortnite battle), Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman (who hosted a meditation tutorial), Charlie Puth, and John Legend raised roughly $2.8 million for the cause, Twitch confirmed over the weekend.
