Glen Campbell was awarded by the Academy of Country Music 11 times during his life, including the Career Achievement Award in 2016, one year before his death in 2017 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Now he’s the front-runner to win one last Acm Award: Vocal Event of the Year for “Funny How Time Slips Away,” his collaboration with Willie Nelson.
“Funny” was written by Nelson in 1961. It was originally recorded by Billy Walker, but has been covered numerous times over the years by artists including Elvis Presley, Al Green and The Spinners. This Acm nominated version by Nelsopn and Campbell was featured on Cambpell’s 64th and final studio album, “Adios,” which was released in June 2017 just two months before he died. That November the Country Music Association Awards paid tribute to Campbell by awarding this song Musical Event of the Year, and now the ACMs appear likely to follow suit.
