The only thing better than hearing your favorite artists cover your favorite Christmas songs is when they decide to get their creativity spinning and write a holiday song that’s entirely original. Not only do you get brand new music, but there’s also the potential that the song turns into a new classic, too. Owl City is the latest to cook up something original, and it’s about a topic that anyone can relate to.
Releasing the track as a free download, Owl City serves up the cheery jingle, “Humbug.” Filled with feel-good vibes and a desire to kick the holiday season off right, the lyrics are about when everything starts to go wrong … at least as far as gifts are concerned. With simple lines like “I wander around the store again and again/But all I do is shrug,” it’s enough to ramp up that gift anxiety in the listeners,...

The start of a new month towards the end of the year means that the weather is getting colder and clothes are getting warmer. For Owl City’s Adam Young, the start of a new month means he drops another new album, and his solo venture is only starting to heat up.
Since Owl City is just a one man band to begin with, all of his records are technically solo albums. But the difference here is that these aren’t pop records made to hit the top of the charts – they’re instrumental albums made from the inner-workings of Young’s mind. Since February, he’s released an instrumental, film-esque score about a historical event each month. For October, he releases Voyager 1 – a record inspired by the Nasa space probe launched in 1977. Last month, his album was about the American Civil War.
The best part about these scores is that they require minimal attention,...

Known for crafting sugary sweet pop numbers that you can’t get out of your head, Owl City mastermind Adam Young takes a different route with his recent collection of solo albums. Since February, Young has been releasing an instrumental, orchestral new record on the first of every month, and he just unveiled his latest.
Young’s theme with his solo albums are to bring light to an important event in history, and the music is the songwriter’s interpretation of it. In the past couple of months, albums have been made about Omaha Beach, the Titantic, and Charles Lindbergh’s first solo Transatlantic flight. For September, the album Corduroy Road is about William Tecumseh Sherman’s famous march to sea during the American Civil War.

Carly Rae Jepsen, whose inescapable "Call Me Maybe" is irreversibly ingrained on the national consciousness, won't be singing such a happy tune if a court complainant has her way.
Billboard reports Alabama-based Allyson Nichole Burnett -- who performs as Ally Burnett -- has filed a copyright infringement suit against Jepsen, along with Adam Young of Owl City, as well as a handful of publishing companies and performing rights groups.
Burnett claims Owl City and Jepsen's hit, "Good Time" is a rip-off of her own 2010 track, "Ah, It's a Love Song." In the suit, Burnett purports since her song was featured on MTV's "The Hills" and "Friendzone," there was reasonable access to her work by those she claims copied it.
In particular, Burnett claims the "unique vocal motif" that is the signature of her track is the same as Carly Rae's motif on "Good Time," which was featured throughout NBC's 2012 Summer Olympics coverage.

-- Carly Rae Jepsen, "Kiss" (604/Schoolboy/Interscope Records)
The challenge for Carly Rae Jepsen following the monster success of "Call Me Maybe" – arguably 2012's biggest pop culture moment – was to steer clear of one-hit wonder status. She did that with another pop smash, the anthem "Good Time," and Jepsen shows she has even more hits on her second album, "Kiss."
The Canadian singer, brought to our attention by country-mate Justin Bieber, delivers what fans are probably looking for with the help of Max Martin, Toby Gad and others: More effervescent pop, unencumbered by a plot too thick or societal issues too weighty. Bass lines and hand claps, please and thank you.
"Good Time" features electro-pop singer Owl City, aka Adam Young, and is the heir apparent to the radio-overkill throne. "Hands up if you're down to get down tonight," goes the refrain as Young shares microphone time with Jepsen against...

When Owl City first swooped onto the pop scene with 2009’s “Fireflies,” he was frequently compared to The Postal Service with good reason: The synthesized pop sound and twee factor were similarly high. On “The Midsummer Station,” Owl City (aka Adam Young) pairs with other producers and songwriters for the first time, and the result is a slight expansion of his sound that renders it just as recognizable, but marginally more diverse and slightly less precious. Lest that sound like a swipe, part of Young’s appeal is his relentless positivity in many songs, often delivered with a keening earnestness that lends...

Now we're proud to present, for the first time, this new album's very first track. "Dreams and Disasters" is an appropriate kick-off to this new set from Owl City, as it's a high-energy, hyper-melodic dance number, like fireworks without the fuse. Owl City has released a new single called "Dementia," featuring Blink-182's Mark Hoppus. The track offers a sneak peak of what to expect from the electro-pop act's new album.
Perhaps the collaboration shouldn't come off as too much of a surprise since Owl City's Adam Young sounds quite a bit like a young Tom DeLonge, Blink-182's guitarist and singer.
Hoppus not only joins Young on the chorus of "Dementia" -- "Dementia you're driving me crazy " -- but he also takes the vocal lead on the second verse.
Owl City's debut album, 2009's Ocean Eyes, peaked at No. 1 on the Dance/Electronica and Rock albums charts, while its hit lead single "Fireflies" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Meanwhile, Owl City's last album, 2011's All Things Bright and Beautiful, reached No. 6 on The Billboard 200.
Hoppus recently reunited with DeLonge and drummer Travis Barker to release their sixth studio Blink-182 album in 2012. Neighborhoods peaked at No.

Well, look what just flew onto my desk. A brand new Owl City song "Dementia" has surfaced, signalling the way for a fresh album from the electro-pop star. And it appears that Adam Young has made some more famous new friends. Mark Hoppus -- singer for Blink-182 and +44 -- helps out on vocal duties for this high-energy track. I can't tell if Hoppus also had a hand in producing this sure-fire radio hit, but he has helmed for acts like Motion City Soundtrack, Fall Out Boy and New Found Glory. So this particular combo is just slightly out of each...

With Lindsay Lohan being released from formal probation for the first time in over four years, Adam Young, an advocate of rehabilitation through education, is saying the actress would have benefited from a more creative sentence. The ‘Mean Girls’ star completed her community service in the Los Angeles morgue, but Young said negative reinforcement never works. Lohan “has been in and out of court for years, has failed to do her community service many times and could use some inspiration to get her life back on track,” Young said. “Statistics show a high correlation between crime and lack of education…Had (Lindsay) taken some of those hours (while at the morgue) [ Read More ]...

Ender’s Game Film Casts Stilson
Bullies and bullying is a hot button issue right now in the real world. Well, it was also important to the plot of the Orson Scott Card classic, Ender’s Game. That’s not unusual. What I adore about science fiction is how readily it relates to the important issues of real life, never mind the fantastic elements involved. Even the classic film, The Never-ending Story, included bullies. So, who will play Ender’s bully on the big screen? All shall be revealed.
His name is Brendan Meyer, and he is already a very popular Canadian teen star, according to the THR exclusive. He will play Stilson, who makes Ender’s school life fairly miserable.
Meyer is 17-year-old years old. He starred in as Adam Young on the Ytv and Disney Xd series, Mr. Young,a child prodigy who graduates from college at age 14, sort of like Doogie Howser,...
