While we'd expected James Gunn to cast a couple of big names as Superman's Ma and Pa Kent, the filmmaker instead chose to find two actors he felt embody the characters, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell.
There's still no word on who, if anyone, will play Jor-El (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell remains the rumoured fan favourite) but we're expecting Jonathan and Martha to be a huge part of Clark Kent's story. Here's hoping neither of them meets a tragic end, anyway!
"Happy Anniversary to my favorite Kansas farmers Ma [and] Pa Kent who will be played by Pruitt Taylor Vince (an actor I've wanted to work with since I saw him in James Mangold's Heavy in 1995) [and] the delightful Neva Howell," Gunn said on Threads.

On Monday, DC Studios co-ceo and Superman's director James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet's Man of Steel. The image didn't feature the hero striking an iconic pose; instead, he was putting his boots on one at a time, just like the rest of us.
The meaning behind the photo was obvious, but the delivery was flawed. Fans immediately zeroed in on the suit's flaws, including the fact that the Kryptonian sitting down meant it appeared baggy or ill-fitting in places.
Then, there was the glowing orb in the background which, for some reason, Superman was seemingly ignoring. It seems the idea was to tease the movie's villains (likely Mongul), but again, the presentation let it down.
Shortly after the reveal dropped, we asked for your opinions on the costume and thousands of you voted. Now, we have the results!
33.34% of you declared Superman's suit "Meh.

Production continues on DC Studios' Superman, and just days after sharing that widely discussed first look at David Corenswet's Man of Steel, director James Gunn has now shared a new behind-the-scenes photo.
This one highlights comic book luminaries invited to set by the filmmaker and executive, including current Superman writers Jason Aaron and Joshua Williamson, along with legends like Dan Jurgens and Jerry Ordway.
Justice League International's Kevin Maguire was also on hand, as was Mister Terrific's co-creator John Ostrander and DC Comics heavyweights Jim Lee and Scott Snyder. You'll also spot All-Star Superman artist Frank Quitely (that comic has seemingly been a key source of inspiration for the DC Studios co-ceo).
"Great day with some comic book titans visiting the [Superman] set," Gunn said on Instagram. "So many of my heroes all at once it was really overwhelming."

In a new interview with GQ, celebrity trainer Paolo Mascitti is revealing the tips and tricks he used to turn the lean David Corenswet into a jacked, powerhouse ahead of filming on the Dcu's Superman.
Said Mascitti, "This is a James Gunn film, and he has a specific vision of the entire project. David had been working out intensively before I met him, but he’s naturally a very lean guy. He’s 6’6” but we wanted to put more bulk on him. He probably went from 200lbs to 240lbs, but some of that mass will be shed as he continues to tone up.”
He revealed that he and Corenswet had very intense training sessions for about 5 months before filming started on Superman. However, even though the cameras are now rolling, they're still training.

Earlier this week, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet suited up as Superman's Man of Steel. It likely hasn't received the reaction Gunn wanted, generating memes and an overall mixed response.
Zack Snyder hasn't shared his take on the reveal, but one of his longtime collaborators has.
Clay Staub served as an aerial second unit director on both versions of Justice League, was an additional second unit director on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and also collaborated with Snyder on 300 and Dawn of the Dead.
"Who thought this was the best option for a First Look?" he asked on X. "Really, I’m not joking, speaking solely from the layout perspective, the pose (pulling his boot on) making the suit chest and arms look bulky and rubbery. Btw are those Trunks we’re returning to, I’m asking for a friend?"

The Blood Window Showcase will scare Cannes once again. This time, with six new features, currently in progress.
During an exclusive screening on May 19, in Palais K, industry guests will get to see “The Tree House,” “1978,” “Fifteen,” “Eyes of the Abyss,” “Parvulos” and “Remanence: A Voltage Cosmic Tale.”
“One of the highlights this year is the quality of projects and their diversity,” said the head of the program Javier. C. Fernández.
“We have a coming-of-age story among zombie apocalypse in ‘Parvulos,’ a vengeful quinceañera with plenty of gore and dark humor in ‘Fifteen’ or even a horror tale set on a ship during the Falklands War in 1982 [‘Eyes of the Abyss’]. This is different from previous editions, focusing more on stories about exorcisms and urban legends. Now, there are offerings for every taste.”

Yesterday, DC Studios and James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet suited up as the Dcu's Man of Tomorrow in Superman. While the suit itself seems to have received a largely positive response, how it was presented has divided opinions (cast your vote in our poll here).
Rather than an action shot or iconic pose, Gunn has attempted to drive home the fact that this Superman is more of an everyman, putting his boots on - or taking them off - one foot at a time, just like the rest of us.
That's all well and good, but the hero sitting down didn't like that doesn't do the suit any favours.
What was going on outside Superman's window was just as big of a talking point. A colourful explosion rocks the Metropolis skyline, which he appears to be ignoring. It's also not a strong visual and is reminiscent...

Earlier today, DC Studios' co-ceo and Superman director James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet suited up as the Dcu's new Man of Tomorrow.
The response so far has been...mixed. Before we get to the suit, the image itself has raised eyebrows; rather than striking a heroic pose, Supes is sitting down in his incredibly expensive-looking apartment either removing or putting on his boot.
Meanwhile, a poorly CG'd explosion is taking place outside (is it AI?), a development the hero is either ignoring or hasn't noticed yet. It's a weird way to present our first look at the Dcu's Superman and arguably does the costume itself no favours.
Because he's sitting down, it's folded over in places and appears ill-fitting. Was this really the best way to present Corenswet's Superman to the world first the first time?
Gunn was clearly going for something here, though we're still struggling to figure out what.

Snyder’s vision of the Dceu was highly criticized by the fans. He introduced a dark twist to pretty much every significant character in the Universe and majorly changed some of the most notable qualities of those characters.
‘Batman V Superman’ was likewise highly criticized for cramping too many big characters into a single movie, which effectively rendered it too cramped up to be enjoyable and the story to be worthwhile. Some viewers felt that the film had pacing issues, a convoluted plot, and lacked character development.
Now it’s Gunn’s turn to revitalize the DC cinematic universe, dubbed as Dcu after the reboot, and the first live-action project that will attempt will be ‘Superman’ bound to be released in 2025. But even now, more than a year before the movie’s release, the director is being criticized on social media regularly, and the latest accusation might have merit.

Fans heavily criticized Snyder’s approach to the Dceu, as he infused a darker tone into the characters and altered key qualities.
“Batman V Superman” faced similar backlash for cramming numerous major characters into one film, resulting in a crowded narrative with pacing issues, a convoluted plot, and inadequate character development.
Gunn is now tasked with revitalizing the DC cinematic universe, now known as the Dcu post-reboot, with his first live-action project, ‘Superman,’ slated for release in 2025. However, even over a year ahead of the movie’s debut, the director faces regular criticism on social media. The latest accusation against him is gaining traction and appears to have some merit.
In ‘Superman,’ Gunn intends to introduce four Justice League members alongside Corenswet as Clark Kent and Brosnahan’s Lois Lane: Guy Gardner (played by Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (played by Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (played by Edi Gathegi), and Metamorpho (played by Anthony Carrigan). It’s Superman!
On Monday, “Superman” writer-director James Gunn released the first look at star David Corenswet as Superman in an Instagram post.
The photo depicts the Man of Steel sitting in what appears to be a luxury highrise condo in his iconic blue, red, and yellow costume. He’s pulling on his boots, presumably to deal with the pink-and-blue comet-like burst that’s visible in the sky out the window. He may be a nearly immortal superhero from the planet Krypton, but he puts his boots on one at a time like everyone else.

What a way to kick off the week!
DC Studios, James Gunn, and Warner Bros. have officially revealed the costume for David Corenswet's Superman, the first film in the Dcu.
It looks as if Clark is preparing to lace up his boots and patrol the Metropolis skyline in the image. While sitting, it clear that this newest version of the Man of Steel will have the superhero's iconic red trunks.
The first official image of the Superman suit comes likely due to the fact that filming is set to leave the behind-the-scenes confines of the Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia and film on-location in Macon and later on in Cleveland, Ohio.
At first blush, it looks as if the suit is heavily inspired by the Superman suit from the 2011 DC Comics' New 52 reboot, with slight variations.

Last year, Gunn & Safran presented new plans for “Dcu,” a cinematic universe that was supposed to replace and reboot Dceu. The first phase or chapter as they put it titled ‘Gods & Monsters’ included everything from animated projects to live-action shows taking place in Themyscira, long before Wonder Woman’s times.
Despite the animated show ‘Creature Commandos’ being released first, the true beginning of Dcu will be ‘Superman’ a live-action movie focusing on younger Superman, completely replacing Cavill’s established Man of Steel. Yesterday, The Wrap had the scoop on who would play Jonathan Kent in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, and now they’ve got the inside story on Martha Kent as well. The outlet reports that Neva Howell has been cast as Martha Kent in Superman, joining Pruitt Taylor-Vince as Jonathan Kent. Together, the pair are the human adoptive parents of Clark Kent.
As with Taylor-Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell will be the latest in a long line of actors who have played Martha Kent in movies and television, including Phyllis Thaxter in the original Superman movie, Annette O’Toole in Smallville, Eva Marie Saint in Superman Returns, and Diane Lane in Man of Steel. While it might seem as though he already has a pretty stacked cast, James Gunn is reportedly adding at least one more, as The Wrap reports that Pruitt Taylor Vince will play Jonathan Kent, Aka the titular hero's adoptive human father in his new take on Superman.
Vince is taking on the iconic — and assuming Gunn is sticking to canon – ill-fated role of the Smallville father who discovers the infant Kal El and raises him alongside wife Martha Kent as Clark Kent. Kevin Costner played the role for Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel, while Glenn Ford took on the role in 1978’s Superman, directed by Richard Donner.

Superman director James Gunn made a video appearance during the Warner Bros panel for CinemaCon. While he didn’t have a lot to reveal just yet, he did tease that next year will be the “summer of Superman” as he revealed a closer look at the new logo, which seems reminiscent of the one from the Max Fleischer cartoons.
DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran came out on the CinemaCon stage to tease the other Superman movie: Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. The heart-wrenching documentary was acquired by Warner Bros. earlier this year for $15 million, and Safran revealed that it would be released in theaters this September. An exact date wasn’t specified, but the trailer screened at CinemaCon brought tears to more than a few in the audience.

As the co-chair of DC Studios, James Gunn has the key to the DC Universe as he and Peter Safran prepare for the next generation of superhero storytelling.
One film that excites fans is The Authority, a movie about a team of anti-heroes known as the anti-Justice League.
Gunn recently updated fans on the film’s development after one of his Threads followers asked if any of the members of the anti-hero team had been cast.
“We won’t green light a film until we have a finished script we’re happy with and, in general, we won’t cast a film until the script is finished,” Gunn shared. “This is why some projects are moving faster than anticipated and others more slowly. It’s always gonna be quality first no matter what.”

In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran presented their own new rebooted universe dubbed Dcu and presented a full slate of projects. The last movie released within the Dceu was last year’s ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ which was somewhat of a success when you take into account that nearly all MCU movies released that year failed both when it comes to critics and when it comes to the box office.
In January, Gunn and Safran introduced the initial projects of the Dcu slate, revealing the team of writers involved in crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ included films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,...

James Gunn earlier revealed a first look at the Superman costume when he revealed the House of El ‘S’ symbol on Instagram. When a concept pic of David Corenswet in the complete suit, including the red and yellow ‘S’ symbol, circulated on the internet, fans believed it was an official image from the Dcu. Now, Gunn has taken to social media to clarify that the circulating image is incredible fan art.

The director also quoted ScreenRant, who earlier shared the fan art and explained that it was from a fan and not an official one from Dcu. Along with releasing the suit tease, Gunn also revealed the name change of the film from Superman: Legacy to Superman last month.

Headed by seasoned filmmaker James Gunn. DC Studios is finally finding its footing back. Gunn’s era at DC is set to start with a reboot of the Superman film series. The filming of what will be the first DC film under Gunn’s supervision Superman, previously titled Superman: Legacy has commenced in Svalbard, Norway.

Filming in the Arctic means that viewers will see Clark Kent in his Fortress of Solitude. All to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his adoptive human family; as the premise suggests. However, the film might share a similarity with Christopher Reeve’s Superman II, from the 80’s. And it might have something to do with the Fortress of Solitude.

James Gunn is pulling out all the stops for his forthcoming Superman film by shooting the entire feature in IMAX. Unlike garden variety cameras and filming methods, the IMAX format brings audiences closer to the action with breathtaking picture quality, dynamic sound, epic scale, and fidelity. Want to feel the wind whooshing through your spit-curl as Superman soars through a Metropolis sky? IMAX will get you there and then some.
James Gunn revealed his intent to film Superman in IMAX quality today on Threads. In his post, Gunn shares footage from the Norwegian archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, Svalbard. As the song “Speak Vernacular” by The Icons plays, the footage depicts gorgeous snowscapes, wildlife, and water that only Mr. Freeze would swim in. It’s the perfect environment for Superman’s ice-clad clubhouse, The Fortress of Solitude.

Filming for James Gunn’s Superman has commenced in Norway, and the DC Studios co-head is teasing the first scene.
The director opened up to a Norwegian outlet about the first scene he filmed of Superman, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, and why he chose Svalbard as the filming location.
“We have filmed the first scenes [in Svalbard], which show Superman fleeing to the Fortress of Solitude,” Gunn told Svalbardposten (via Vg). “We wanted a place that was beautiful and felt like being in the middle of the Arctic, so we looked at several places in the world. But there were many things that sold Svalbard for us over the other places.”
He continued, “First, there is the natural beauty. But there’s also the fact that you’ll find a varied landscape here that you won’t find anywhere else. Nature gives a special feeling.”

The Dceu has faced its fair share of ups and downs lately. But one consistent point of praise has been the casting choices, particularly actors like Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
Henry Cavill and Wonder Woman in the Dceu
Anyways, James Gunn is now all set to change the whole universe. While his reboot sounds like a fresh idea, there is also a bittersweet feeling because they’re shaking up the cast.
Gunn and Peter Safran seem to have something new in the works, and it makes sense why they’re opting for younger actors like David Corenswet (as they provide longevity and potential for more movies in the future).
After his casting as Clark Kent/Superman in June 2023, new cast names were soon revealed, including Nicholas Hoult as the classic villain Lex Luthor. Most recently, the actor for Perry White has also been announced.

James Gunn took to Instagram to announce that Superman Legacy is now just called Superman. There’s also a new look at the Superman insignia.
Production on James Gunn’s Superman film is ramping up. Gunn recently shared a photo of the entire cast together, including a very bald Nicholas Hoult who will be playing iconic villain Lex Luthor.
Yesterday (29th February), Gunn took to Instagram once again to share a first sneak peek of the brand new Superman insignia.
The Superman logo has a bit of snow around it, which could suggest we’re getting a scene set in Superman’s arctic retreat, The Fortress of Solitude. The film will be the first entry in Gunn’s new DC Universe.
Gunn wrote on Instagram, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on Superman today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy has been officially renamed to Superman. Gunn made the announcement during the first day of filming on February 29. James Gunn's Super-plan has clearly evolved as he's been busy writing the script and preparing to make Superman: Legacy, his first project for the comic book movie universe that he runs with Peter Safran under DC Studios for Warner Bros. Gunn marked Superman's birthday (February 29) to announce that the new movie will actually be called simply Superman.
As part of his Threads post announcing the change, he also posted a first look at the insignia from the chest of his chosen Superman, with David Corenswet playing the character in this incarnation. The new symbol is inspired by artist Alex Ross' art.
Superman's cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardener), Isabela Mercad (Hawkgirl), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher) and María Gabriela de Faría (Angela Spica/The Engineer). Drop the Legacy. James Gunn revealed that his new Superman movie will simply be called Superman, writing in a post celebrating the first day of filming, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was Superman. Making our way to you July 2025.”
Along with the post, he shared an image of the Superman logo from the film, which was previously called Superman: Legacy. The snow-dusting on the logo suggests a scene set in The Fortress of Solitude, Superman’s arctic fortress.
Superman, of course, was the title of the seminal 1978 film starring Christopher Reeve and directed by Richard Donner. (Though it was also known as Superman: The Movie.)
David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as classic villain Lex Luthor.

During Friday’s Q4 earnings call, David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO, said that James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” will start filming next week.
Gunn posted the first picture of the full cast on Instagram yesterday, writing, “After the table read with the #Superman cast. Zaslav sounded optimistic when delivering the “Superman” news, saying, “Bottom line, the studio has really been underperforming — including at the end of the year where we had some real struggle — but we’re very optimistic about this year, and it has given us the chance to have a lot of upside in the next two years.”
Gunnar Wiedenfels, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CFO, was also frank on the call about last year’s soft superhero offerings.

If you needed confirmation that James Gunn is getting ever closer to shooting Superman: Legacy, look no further than a new picture posted by the filmmaker (and DC Studios co-chief) of him and his cast assembled in Atlanta for a table read. Take a look:

Not pictured? Sean Gunn, who is playing Maxwell Lord. And – assuming the Gunn regular is actually going to be in the film – Michael Rooker, possibly just off to the side, wondering why he was asked to get the coffee.

There’s some confusion flying circles around James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, with Egyptian-born entertainer Bassem Youseff saying he was fired from the project after showing support for Palestine during a Piers Morgan interview. According to Youseff, DC Studios offered him a role as a villain in the upcoming superhero spectacle. The official reason given for Youseff getting pulled from the cast list is a script change, but “the Jon Stewart of the Middle East” says the missed opportunity aligns with him showing support for Palestine in an interview.
However, a source close to the production says Youseff’s timeline of events needs to be corrected. The source says the decision to pass on Youseff’s involvement happened before the Piers Morgan interview.
“You’ve been very outspoken on behalf of Palestinian humanity and you lost a role in the new Superman movie and some other projects,” Dean Obeidallah of...

It’s likely only a matter of time before Dave Bautista officially joins the Dcu, but who should he play? James Gunn took that very question to fans over on Threads, and there were quite a few interesting responses.
One of the most popular responses suggested that Dave Bautista play Hugo Strange in the Dcu, the scientist and criminal mastermind who was one of Batman’s first recurring villains. Another popular choice was Mongul, the tyrannical ruler of Warworld who can go toe-to-toe with Superman. Other comments suggested that Bautista would be perfect for characters such as Darkseid, Bane, Kilowog, Mr. Freeze, Atrocitus, or even Bibbo Bibbowski.

According to THR, screen tests for the role of Supergirl took place yesterday, with sources saying that the casting has been narrowed down to Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) and Meg Donnelly (The Winchesters).
DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran were said to be present for the Supergirl testing. The character is expected to be introduced in Superman: Legacy before taking the lead in her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly were first mentioned as contenders for the Supergirl role two weeks ago, along with Emilia Jones (Locke & Key).

As much as we loved Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Superman, his take on the character didn’t include much humor, but it doesn’t sound as though that will be the case with Superman: Legacy. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Rachel Brosnahan teased that the new Superman played by David Corenswet will “have a sense of humor.“
“I’ve really enjoyed the collaboration with James Gunn so far,” Brosnahan said. “Every single person involved in this production is just such a perfect nerd for Superman. We all grew up watching the movies. Some of us were reading the comics. So I feel like it’s being made with so much love. And I think this Superman will have a sense of humor… We’re excited to both put our own spin on things and honor the material we love so much.” The actress added that her take on Lois Lane will be “feisty,...

It was recently revealed that Superman: Legacy would start shooting in March, which left fans wondering whether we might see our first look at the new Superman suit before then.
One fan took to Threads to ask James Gunn, “What’s the likelihood of seeing what the suit looks like before filming in March?” Unfortunately, Gunn had a pretty definite response: “zero-point-zero.” This likely means that Superman: Legacy will start shooting in the studio, which makes it much easier to keep photo leaks under wraps. As we saw with Deadpool 3, the paparazzi shots came fast and furious as soon as the production moved outside, which is why Marvel got ahead of the game by releasing an official look at Deadpool and Wolverine.

James Gunn is entirely open on social media on the progress of Superman Legacy and sharing details of the upcoming DC Studios film.
The studio co-head recently revealed a storyboard shot that teases the film starring David Corenswet as the titled superhero.
“Spoiler??!! Well, probably not. I’m constantly drawing Superman Legacy shots and storyboards all over everything,” Gunn shared on Threads. “Here’s one I just sent to my department heads to understand how tight a shot was going to be we had been discussing.”
When a fan asked what was going on in the shot, Gunn explained, “The camera is moving back with the character. For me, the full arrows are camera movement, the thin arrows are subject movement.”

Another major topic that fans are excited about is the costume that Superman will be donning and Gunn teased that the design is close to completion.
