The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) was Written and Narrated by Mike Holtz, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
By the year 2017, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise had already produced sequels, remakes, prequels, prequels of the remakes, a 3D sequel, and Matthew McConaughey with a cybernetic leg. But as the classic saying goes, there’s more than one way to brutally skin a live human being on a hook while they scream in pain as your grandpa watches in the corner. Now we have requels. And you can bet your face skin that the Texas Chainsaw franchise wasn’t about to miss out on those. The story of the making of this particular requel, however, involves the dawn of the Covid-19 shutdowns, fired directors and trashed footage, rumors of disastrous test screenings,...

Severin Films Goes Goth On June 4th With Danza MacAbra Volume 3: The Spanish Gothic Collection: "Coming June 4th! Danza MacAbra Volume 3: The Spanish Gothic Collection is the latest in our acclaimed series of Gothic Horror Blu-ray box sets and the first to focus on Spain’s tradition of Gothic Horror, which – particularly during the Franco dictatorship – was characterized by daring concepts, lush visuals, extreme sexuality, and a startling aestheic all its own. These four classic shockers from the 1970s represent the genre at its most audacious: In Necrophagous, the debut feature by writer/director Miguel Madrid, a fractured family in a crumbling castle conceals a grisly graveyard secret. The anthology film Cake Of Blood – never previously available outside of Spain – presents a quartet of supernatural tales by four young filmmakers. Hammer Films director John Gilling brings his inimitable style to the occult thriller in Cross Of The Devil.

Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) and Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) are masters in their field. As the Dead Boy Detectives, they specialize in solving supernatural cases that would otherwise remain unsolved — like their own deaths. So cracking the lingering “Case of the Devlin House” should just be a feather in their cap, right?
Well, let’s review how it meets their criteria as a case only they could solve: After freeing Niko (Yuyu Kitamura) from her Sprites infestation in Episode 2, the Dead Boy Detectives, Niko, and clairvoyant Crystal (Kassius Nelson) are ready to take on a new client in Episode 3. When freshly minted ghost Susan arrives in their office (aka Crystal’s apartment), she presumes they know the terrifying lore of the Devlin family’s murder in 1994. But as they’re new in town, alas, they do not.
They soon learn this woman’s brother-in-law snapped one night and killed his...

TriStar Pictures believed they had the surest of things when they hired Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin to make the first Hollywood "Godzilla" flick. The duo had just delivered the biggest film of 1996 in "Independence Day," and appeared poised to become a blockbuster brand name on par with Steven Spielberg and James Cameron. Every studio in town wanted to make their next smash hit. But this is where the trouble started: TriStar wanted Emmerich and Devlin to make its next smash hit.
The 1998 iteration of "Godzilla" did not originate with Emmerich and Devlin. TriStar came very close to greenlighting it in 1994 with Jan De Bont (hot off the success of "Speed") directing a screenplay by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio (who would eventually make their franchise fortune on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series), which would've placed it in direct competition with "Independence Day" during the summer of 1996. So this all felt awfully fortuitous.

Now there’s The Glenarma Tapes, an Irish film that begins by telling us that seven people went missing in the woods around Glenarma one night in 2020. One was later found near death and in a coma. Two years later, the police found the footage we’re about to see…
The footage starts innocently enough, as we watch Gordy (Warren McCook; Hope Street) go through his day as a student at Mid Ulster College of Art. His friend Jimmy is making a day-in-the-life type film for his class project. He’s certainly an interesting subject, going from making insightful comments about Romeo and Juliet to...

After almost a year of radio silence, we have some good news to report about Leverage: Redemption.
The fan-favorite reboot has been renewed for a third season, which is set to air in 2024.
There is a significant change on the horizon for the series.
It will no longer be a Freevee original and has been shifted to Prime Video for the next season.
No reason for the change in streaming home has been given, but it's probably thanks to the devoted audience that has embraced the show since it premiered in July 2021.
Reboots are tricky to pull off, with many imploding once the initial curiosity factor wears off.
But fans have connected with this revamped series, thanks to its featuring many franchise veterans and new characters to tell a different story.

“Leverage: Redemption” has been renewed for Season 3, but will be changing platforms. The first two seasons aired on Amazon’s Freevee, but Season 3 will debut on sister streamer Prime Video in 2024 instead.
The move is significant, as “Leverage: Redemption,” a revival of the TNT series “Leverage,” was one of the major scripted titles available on Freevee. The show was ordered to series in 2020, when Freevee was still branded as IMDb TV. Freevee’s biggest scripted series at present is “Bosch: Legacy,” while a spinoff of that show was recently ordered at Prime Video as well.
The first two seasons of “Leverage: Redemption” are currently available to stream on Freevee, as is “Leverage” via Electric Entertainment’s Fast Channel and on-demand.

You can’t blame him for being creeped out, with its peeling paint and backyard full of rotting pumpkins the house already looks like something out of a horror movie. And then there’s that weird bulging thing the walls in his room do while he’s sleeping.
We also quickly learn that he has no friends and gets bullied at school. His parents Carol and Mark also won’t let him dress up for Halloween, something that may be related to the disappearance of a young girl a few years ago. Unsurprisingly they also don’t believe him about the knocking.

Plot: When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.
Review: Robert Rodriguez has always had two distinct film output: mature genre offerings aimed at adult audiences and family-friendly action flicks aimed at the youngest viewers. While Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios has used in-house special effects work to deliver pulpy flicks like Machete and the recent Hypnotic, the full-blown CGI worlds of the Spy Kids films have given the indie filmmaker a playground to make every childhood fantasy come to life. After four films centered on the Cortez family of spies, Rodriguez and his son Racer Max have written a franchise reboot centered on two new pint-sized agents as they use their knowledge of video games to save their parents and the world.

The latest film by Sin City director Robert Rodriguez just released and it’s a reboot of his Spy Kids franchise titled Spy Kids: Armageddon. The franchise started with its first installment Spy Kids in 2001 and was very well received by the public. The strong Latino family dynamics and the new technology special effects were all responsible for the overwhelming love the film received. Rodriguez made three more sequels, and they all went down in quality. This new one is a fresh story with a new family that mixes in the fears associated with the budding AI technology. The characters in the film have the same warmth and humorous quality that made the franchise what it is. It is very much a movie for kids with some great moral lessons hidden in the narrative. The elements of video games and technology have their own allure and the film hints at...

The seventh episode of the AppleTV+ limited series Hijack aired, and with it, the series came to its conclusion. It was truly a fun ride while it lasted. But every good thing must come to an end eventually, no matter how much you don’t want it to. The final episode had the responsibility of neatly tying up all loose ends, and it tried to do that but, in the process, hurried through the plot. In the previous episode, Robin Allen was shot dead, and now that the plane was nearing London, the question became, will it land safely or will it crash? There were over 200 people on the plane. Saving them by providing external help seemed impossible, even for Louise and Neil. The plan had to be executed from inside the plane. Sam was put on the spot again, and it was left to his negotiating acumen to get the plane to land safely.

If the previous episode of Hijack was a little bit of a dud, it’s probably because the series had in its arsenal the latest episode, which absolutely knocked it out of the park with its thrilling turn of events. The hijackers had threatened to do further damage if the authorities didn’t release Edgar Janssen and John Bailey-Brown. Sam was running out of breathing space, as the plane was just a couple of hours away from its destination, and the situation on the flight was dangerously close to getting out of hand. Stuart had lost his brother Lewis, and he could wreak havoc if he lost his composure. Sam knew that and had to come up with a way to minimize the damage. This episode finally showed us the dreaded criminals Edgar and John, to secure whose freedom the plane had been hijacked, apparently. The real shocker came at...

Cobweb begins a week before Halloween when Peter is woken up by the sound of knocking seemingly coming from inside his bedroom wall.

Lionsgate’s new thriller “Cobweb” is the kind of film horror fans live for: A tight, terrifying ride that’s filled with surprises but plays fair with the audience — there are a lot of twists and shocks, but no gimmicks in Chris Thomas Devlin’s screenplay. That script, which placed on the Black List in 2018, follows 8-year-old Peter (Woody Norman) as he becomes convinced that his parents (Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr) are keeping a horrible secret — a secret connected to the tapping he hears from inside his wall. The premise is simple, but Devlin takes it in one unpredictable direction after another, keeping the characterizations and situations just realistic enough for us to stay emotionally invested while letting the story spin off into surreal and horrifying worlds.
That’s a challenging tone to sustain, but the ingenuity of Devlin’s script finds its visual corollary in Samuel Bodin’s direction.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the series finale of FX’s Mayans M.C. titled “Slow to Bleed Fair Son.”
On tonight’s episode of Mayans M.C. titled “Slow to Bleed Fair Son,” the biker gang whose origins date back to Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy and later expanded into its own spinoff series takes its last ride—and it’s messy as hell.
Without El Padrino Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) at the helm of the club, it was only a matter of time before the whole thing exploded into chaos. After being ousted by former prospect turned president Ez Reyes (Jd Pardo) in Season 4, it took some time for Alvarez to figure out what his life would look like in a post-Mayans world. As the founding member of the charter, Alvarez struggled but discovered in the finale ever so clearly that he is where...

Director Samuel Bodin established a talent for crafting bone-chilling scares with “Marianne,” a series that saw a fairy tale nightmare spill over into waking life for its protagonists. For his follow-up, Cobweb, Bodin steps further into the realm of fairy tales for a gateway horror effort that plays like a bedtime story. In the severing of reality, though, Cobweb spins a messy web.
Eight-year-old Peter (Woody Norman) suffers night terrors that have his parents, Carol (Lizzy Caplan) and Mark (Antony Starr), at their wit’s end. Peter’s insistence that something’s inside his bedroom walls tapping all night long gets chalked up to an active imagination. The sounds become more consistent, and Mom and Dad’s peculiar reactions to Peter’s claims instill suspicion. Not helping the mounting mistrust is Peter’s school life, where his peers bully him. Peter’s new substitute teacher, Miss Devine (Cleopatra Coleman), takes...

After turning heads with the well-received but short-lived Netflix original horror series Marianne, French director Samuel Bodin moves into features with the visually compelling though ultimately disappointing chiller, Cobweb. Written by Chris Thomas Devlin, who took a stab at rejuvenating the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise in 2022, the script landed on the Black List, among the best unproduced screenplays of 2018, as well as its horror counterpart, the Blood List. That pedigree clearly helped draw a solid cast and crafts team, but after a promising set-up, the story’s internal logic gets scrambled.
Suspenseful though seldom scary, the film is set a week before Halloween and hinges for a good part of its run time on the reliable horror trope of the threat coming from inside the house.
It effectively defies the natural family dynamic of parents as protectors of the vulnerable by giving the young protagonist, Peter (Woody Norman, from C...

In the vast realm of horror films, Cobweb emerges as a new addition inviting audiences into a world where appearances deceive and secrets hide beneath the surface. Directed by Samuel Bodin and written by Chris Thomas Devlin, and starring Lizzy Caplan, Woody Norman, Antony Starr and Cleopatra Coleman, the movie’s strengths lie in the established atmosphere of intrigue and suspense. However, it can’t sustain that as it grapples with missed opportunities and a lackluster conclusion that fails to bring closure to its narrative.
Cobweb starts with Peter (Norman) waking up from a nightmare and he hears noises in his bedroom walls. He runs over to the wall and knocks on it — and it knocks back. His mother Carol (Caplan) bursts into the room to find out what’s going on but ends up tucking him in to go back to bed. The next night he hears the voice...

Horror is a genre that constantly tries to upend audience expectations. In this last year alone, horror features like “Barbarian” and “M3GAN” have tried to tell new, unique tales that have franchise potential, so it’s not hard to find a movie that just wants to tell a story in a creative way.
Such is the case with “Cobweb,” a wholly original story written by Chris Thomas Devlin (who wrote the 2022 reboot of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) that appears to draw heavy inspiration from short-form horror content like “Tales From the Crypt” and features like “The People Under the Stairs.” And if you enjoy those inspirations, “Cobweb” sets itself up to be a success, especially with its leads being Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr, two performers who know how to creep people out.

Samuel Bodin, the creator of Netflix horror series “Marianne,” returns to the genre with Lionsgate’s horror movie Cobweb, releasing in theaters on July 21.
Cobweb, written by Chris Thomas Devlin, follows eight-year-old Peter as mysterious tappings from within his bedroom walls lead him to suspect his parents (Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr) are hiding a terrible secret.
Ahead of the film’s release, Bloody Disgusting spoke with both Samuel Bodin and Woody Norman about their gateway horror fairy tale and the scares you’ll find nestled within.
Much like “Marianne,” Bodin injects Cobweb with a fairy tale quality, well-suited for the scary bedtime story-like nightmares its young protagonist endures. While the similarities end there between “Marianne” and Cobweb, it does highlight Bodin’s affinity for building backstories.
The filmmaker explains his approach, “I always try to attack a story as the story demands.

The revamped CW will have some genre programming, after all.
On Thursday, the network picked up a sequel to the TNT series The Librarians.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter is a spinoff of the original TV series, which followed the adventures of the custodians of a magical repository of the world's most powerful and dangerous supernatural artifacts.
The new series centers on a "Librarian" from the past, who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here.
When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent.
He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.
Electric Entertainment and The CW Network produce the new series.
Dean Devlin serves as executive producer and showrunner along with executive producers Rachel Olschan-Wilson and Marc Roskin.
Jonathan English of Balkanic Media serves as producer.

As The CW cut away most of its scripted series over the past two seasons, then built up its 2023-24 schedule with a number of series that originated elsewhere, a narrative took hold: The network, under new owners Nexstar, was looking for inexpensive programming to fill its lineup and abandoning homegrown original series to chase profits.
It came as something of a surprise, then, when Brad Schwartz, entertainment president at The CW, told reporters Thursday that the network was in production on a dozen scripted shows and developing several others. It’s the first time since local TV giant Nexstar took majority ownership of the network in October 2022 that The CW (which also made some cuts in development and current programming after the ownership change) has really outlined how it plans to find and develop new series.

Syfy has ordered a second season of “The Ark,” NBCUniversal announced on Wednesday.
Created by Dean Devlin, “The Ark” takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive. Christie Burke, Richard Fleeshman, Reece Ritchie, Stacey Read and Ryan Adams star.
“We couldn’t be more excited to get back into space with the crew of ‘The Ark.’ Syfy continues to be an amazing partner and home for this series,” said executive producers and co-showrunners Devlin and Jonathan Glassner.

Peter J. Devlin — who started his career as an audio assistant at the BBC and went on to work on big action movies including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and smaller dramatic films such as Frost/Nixon — will accept the Cinema Audio Society’s Career Achievement Award. Devlin has worked on more than 70 films and received Oscar nominations for five of them, including Star Trek and Pearl Harbor. Last year, he became the first production sound mixer to be elected a governor of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Regarding working on the Black Panther series, Devlin says it was important to be involved early on, with collaborators including costume designer Ruth E. Carter, who “spent so much time with me, weeks ahead of the project, to go through all the different costumes and devise a plan as to how to get those mics on those actors.”
He remembers Chadwick Boseman with respect and warmth.
