Terence Winter, who stepped down as showrunner of the Sylvester Stallone-starring mob drama Tulsa King after its first season, is back as a writer on Paramount+ series’ upcoming second season in addition to his continuing duties as an executive producer. The series, created by Taylor Sheridan, has opted not to bring in a replacement for Winter in line with the practice at the other Sheridan series produced by 101 Studios which don’t have a traditional showrunner. Instead, Tulsa King has hired a director/executive producer whose deal is still being finalized.
As Deadline reported a year ago, Winter stepped down from the showrunner post over creative differences with Sheridan. Winter, who had spoken about how much he enjoyed working with Stallone and loved the characters on the show, was to remain an executive producer on Tulsa King while focusing on other projects.

Just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in.
Emmy-winning writer Terence Winter is returning to Tulsa King.
The Sopranos veteran is back on board the Paramount+ drama after being the showrunner of its 2022 debut season. The series follows a former mobster, played by Sylvester Stallone, who forms a new crime empire in Oklahoma.
Winter and Tulsa King‘s creator and executive producer Taylor Sheridan famously conflicted about the creative direction of the series. After Winter stepped away, the big question became who was going to take over his gig, given Sheridan’s self-professed preference for remaining hands-on with his shows. Stallone, likewise, has firm opinions about the writing in his projects — having written and co-written the screenplays for many of his hit films over the years — and claims some of the show’s dialogue was his own creation.

Exclusive: BlacKkKlansman scribes Charlie Wachtel and David Rabinowitz have set their next film. Fox 2000 has acquired the true-crime pitch Thacher Island. The duo are set to write, and Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are producing. The story is based on Casey Sherman’s 2013 bestseller Animal: The Bloody Rise and Fall of the Mob’s Most Feared Assassin, about the exploits of the notorious Boston mob enforcer Joe “The Animal” Barboza. Sherman previously authored The Finest Hours, which was adapted into the film directed by Craig Gillespie.
Although he was of Portuguese descent, Barboza got the idea he might be accepted into La Cosa Nostra if he killed enough men and took on the most diabolical hits. Barboza’s brutal rise came during one of the deadliest mob wars in U.S., and he took particular joy in the most gruesome crimes — to the point that the mob betrayed him and set him on the run.

Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg join forces again for a film set in the aftermath of the Boston bombing, Patriots Day. Here's the trailer.
The upcoming drama Patriots Day reunites the Deepwater Horizon team of Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg, to tell a story centred around the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing. It seems very close to the actual event to make a film about it, but the debut teaser trailer's solemn tone seems respectful of that.
The focus of Patriots Day? Well, Mark Wahlberg plays an everyman embarking on a seemingly mundane day at work that fatefully yields tragedy. He plays Boston police sergeant Tommy Saunders who, lamenting the indignity of some flat-footed, reflective-vest-wearing duty watching over the Boston Marathon, will find himself on the scene of an unforgettable act of terrorism.
Joining Wahlberg in the cast are Michelle Monaghan as Carol Saunders, John Goodman as Police Commissioner Ed Davis,...

Traversing the dangerous waters of January release season is an unenviable task, but luckily, The Finest Hours represents a momentary break in this month-long storm. While Craig Gillespie’s voyage is no masterclass in seafaring cinema, he’s able to suitably navigate Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias’ source novelization with glimmers of cinematic gravitas.
It’s a larger-than-life story that unfolds with definite “Wow” factors, built on the shock and awe of sheer survival instincts. Writers Scott Silver, Paul Tamasy, and Eric Johnson pay tribute to the unwavering resiliency of our heroes, but, in an expected turn of events, they also unnecessarily bloat the film with safe-coasting dramatics.
