From “Cheers” to “Frasier,” Kelsey Grammer’s Frasier Crane was a mainstay of comedy TV for 20 years, from the ’80s to the early-aughts. Now, after an equal amount of time off the air, Grammer is back in the role for Paramount+’s “Frasier.”
The streaming series is a revival-meets-reboot that once again spins off Grammer’s character with a new cast of colorful characters. Some original “Frasier” stars will return to guest star. However, David Hyde Pierce won’t return as Niles and John Mahoney, who played their father Martin, passed away in 2018.
That means Frasier – along with “Frasier” fans – will be surrounded by new faces. With that in mind, here’s a handy guide to the new “Frasier” cast and characters, including where you might have the actors before.

Kelsey Grammer has returned to television as the iconic Dr. Frasier Crane, roughly 30 years after the original NBC sitcom first premiered. The Paramount+ revival sees the titular character return to Boston for the next chapter of his life, with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.
In addition to Grammer, the show’s cast includes Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy, Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor Alan, Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department, Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s roommate Eve and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew David.
Co-showrunners Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris told TheWrap that, while there are multiple Easter Eggs and references sprinkled throughout the series, they didn’t want to rely on them as a crutch.

The doctor is in — almost, anyway. Frasier is returning to our TV screens on October 12, thanks to a Paramount+ revival. And just ahead of that, we have a birthday to celebrate: The original Frasier is turning 30 years old. Debuting on September 16, 1993, NBC’s Cheers spinoff continued the story of psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammar) as he moves back to Seattle, where he and younger brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) care for their retired father, Martin (John Mahoney), with an assist from live-in aid Daphne (Jane Leeves). Frasier settles into his life in the Emerald City, where he hosts a Kacl radio show, produced by his pal Roz (Peri Gilpin). Frasier aired 11 seasons and landed a record-breaking number of Emmy Awards, including five consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series wins. And if you want to watch the best of the best, scope out the 10 episodes below, which IMDb voters have ranked as the best of the series.

Rejoice, sitcom-lovers: the "Frasier" revival is almost here! The Paramount+ continuation of NBC's long-running "Cheers" spinoff dropped its first trailer today, and it goes without saying that life looks a bit different for snobby psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammar) two decades after we last saw him. The titular character is older, of course, but he's also moved back to Boston (the original finale in 2004 saw him heading to Chicago), the place where audiences first met the character way back in a 1984 "Cheers" episode. It's an interesting location change, and one that makes me slightly terrified the show will attempt to reunite the cast of one of the best sitcoms of all time if it goes on long enough.
There's no mention of another of the original finale's biggest plot points -- the reason Frasier is not in Chicago. In "Goodnight, Seattle," the radio therapist records his last show in Seattle before heading east,...

Frasier has re-entered the building, and he’s just as snobby as the last time you saw him in Seattle. A new trailer for the smash sitcom’s reboot series has finally arrived ahead of its premiere on Oct. 12 on Paramount+.

Frasier Crane is back in Boston, and not much has changed since the beloved psychiatrist swapped coasts.
The Kelsey Grammer-led “Frasier” revival series reveals in the trailer that “Frasier is back…and he’s basically the same” as Frasier (Grammer) quips about beer and scolds his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) for trying to sit on his couch in jeans.
The 10-episode first season follows Dr. Frasier Crane in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill, per the official synopsis.
Those fresh faces include Nicholas Lyndhurst as college buddy turned university professor Alan, Toks Olagundoye as head of the university’s psychology department, Olivia, Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s roommate Eve, and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew David, the son of Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and Daphne...

That sound you heard on Emmy nominations morning was the “Parks and Recreation” group chat blowing up. For those keeping track at home, only Poehler earned Emmy love back in the “Parks & Rec” days, which aired between 2009 and 2015 on NBC. She received six consecutive Best Comedy Actress bids (2010-2015) for her role as Leslie Knope, the overachieving department head in Pawnee, Indiana. When the United Kingdom crowned its new king in May, the coronation ceremony aired for seven and a half hours straight on three of the UK’s four major terrestrial TV channels. On the fourth? The aptly titled Johnny English Strikes Again, after a quadruple-bill of Frasier. Nothing like a bit of counterprogramming.
While His Majesty Johnny English’s fussy pomp was striking again all over the TV schedules then, those who chose to could bend the knee and recite an oath of allegiance to our true king: Dr Frasier Crane.
Channel 4’s tradition of airing a Frasier double-bill* every morning has been going since records began. Two performers broke new ground when it comes to gender diversity at the Tony Awards. J. Harrison Ghee and Alex Newell are the first ever openly nonbinary acting winners at the Tony Awards.
Ghee and Newell already broke barriers with their nominations, as the first openly nonbinary acting nominees. But the Tonys have now gone from zero to two winning nonbinary performers in one season. Ghee won Lead Actor in a Musical for the role of Daphne in “Some Like it Hot,” a character that begins to explore their true gender identity over the course of the musical. Newell won Featured Actor in a Musical for the role of Lulu in “Shucked,” who receives nightly standing ovations for their signature number “Independently Owned.”
This was the first Tony nomination for both performers. Ghee had previously appeared on Broadway in “Kinky Boots” and “Mrs. Doubtfire.” Newell previously appeared in “Once on This Island.

In one of the earliest awards handed out in the 76th Tony Awards telecast on CBS and Paramount+, history was made as Alex Newell became the first-ever openly non-binary actor to win a Tony award, in the Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical category, for their showstopping role as cornpone character Lulu in the musical comedy “Shucked.”
Then, in the show’s final hour, that record was upheld by nonbinary actor J. Harrison Ghee, who won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical in the Marc Shaiman/Scott Wittman tuner “Some Like it Hot”, based on Billy Wilder’s classic 1950s comedy. Ghee, late of musicals such as “Kinky Boots” and “Mrs. Doubtfire”, was a favorite for their bold reimagining of the Jerry/Daphne role made famous by Jack Lemmon in the original film.

Britney Spears has responded to the “not true” tabloid rumors that allege that her family is concerned that the singer has drug issues.
British tabloid The Sun ran a story this weekend claiming that Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline said that Britney is “on meth.” “I’ve been praying someone would make it public and that she wakes up … It’s terrifying,” the Sun claimed Federline said, adding that he planned an intervention.
Federline’s supposed comments went viral and eventually reached Spears, who took to Instagram Sunday to deny the claims.

Plenty of attention is dedicated to the Best Musical race during Tony Awards season, but how confident are you in predicting the design categories? These four races consistently yield surprise winners each year. Those surprises have the potential to completely derail your score in our Tony prediction contest, even if you manage to guess all of the acting winners correctly.
So let’s take a deep dive into the tough below-the-line musical categories that you’ll need to ace in order to score top marks on your 2023 Tony Awards predictions.
Scenic Design
There’s plenty of gorgeous scenic work in this category, but we can probably count out three contenders from the ultimate win. 59 Productions’ video design for “Camelot” is stunning, but Michael Yeargan’s minimal use of physical sets will keep it out of the running. Mimi Lien plopped “Sweeney Todd” in a gargantuan, industrial-themed pit, but some “Sweeney...

There’s a shadow hanging over the 2023 Tony Awards, and we don’t just mean the WGA strike, which nearly derailed Broadway’s biggest night. In a Broadway season boasting three nonbinary actors in major musical roles, the Tonys continue to require performers to submit themselves in either of the gendered actor and actress categories.
Both Some Like It Hot’s J. Harrison Ghee and Shucked’s Alex Newell are frontrunners in the categories they selected, while Justin David Sullivan, who would have been eligible in one of the featured performer categories for & Juliet, removed themselves from consideration early in the season. This year, the Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards, which recognize both Broadway and Off Broadway productions, shed their gendered performance categories, allowing recent wins at both ceremonies for Ghee and Newell in all-gender fields.
If Ghee and Newell repeat those victories at the Tonys, it’ll...

Everyone has a theory about that moment between Daphne (Meghann Fahy) and Ethan (Will Sharpe) in the finale of “The White Lotus,” when a reeling Ethan tells Daphne he thinks their respective spouses have secretly hooked up.
As fans of the HBO drama are well aware, Daphne then invites Ethan to accompany her to a remote island to …have sex? Confess all their sins? Just go cave exploring!? The ambiguity became a water cooler hot topic immediately after airing, but two people who didn’t overanalyze the moment were Fahy and Sharpe themselves.
“I was sort of surprised by how much I get asked about that moment [by fans] and the specifics of what happened, because I don’t think we talked about it at all,” Sharpe said in conversation with Fahy as part of IndieWire’s Awards Spotlight. “Something happened, I remember us arriving on the location, rehearsing it on the day,...

As Matthew López prepared for the London debut of “The Inheritance,” his epic drama about the AIDS epidemic and its painful aftershocks, he was simultaneously outlining a first draft of “Some Like It Hot,” an effervescent re-imagining of the classic Billy Wilder film. The two shows could not have been more radically different. But López enjoyed toggling between comedy and tragedy.
“I like working in extremes,” he says. “I like working in different modes.”
Plus, he thinks that both productions benefitted from their author’s double act. “I got to live in both worlds at once,” López argues. “One helped the other. Doing the shows at the same time kept both projects in check. It prevented ‘The Inheritance’ from getting too dour and kept ‘Some Like It Hot’ from getting too lightweight. It brought some gravity to ‘Some Like It Hot’ and some levity to ‘The Inheritance.'”
Something worked.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was crowned No. 1 on Nielsen’s streaming charts for the week of May 1 to May 7.
The Bridgerton prequel series debuted on May 4 and saw an impressive 1.9B viewing minutes in its first few days on Netflix. That’s quite the feat for a title with only six hour-long episodes. The series was already declared a certified hit by Netflix, which reported earlier this week that it has racked up 432.2M hours viewed to date.
June 1 marks the end of the 28-day measurement period for Queen Charlotte, so the series’ final viewership tally will be in next week from Netflix.
To that end, Season 1 of Bridgerton amassed 125M viewing minutes in the week that Queen Charlotte was released. While that wasn’t enough to boost it onto any of the streaming lists, it was still triple the previous recent weekly viewership averages for Daphne and Simon’s love story.

Theo James has been asked ad nauseam about his prosthetic penis in “The White Lotus,” and Meghann Fahy is starting to feel left out. “Nobody ever asks me about my prosthetic,” she says with a laugh.
When the two reunite over Zoom to discuss their roles, they’re perfectly in sync and often answer questions in unison, evoking their characters’ deliciously duplicitous cat-and- mouse relationship.
In the second season of Mike White’s hit HBO drama, they star as cunning finance businessman Cameron and chipper stay-at-home-mom Daphne, who are vacationing with strait-laced couple Ethan and Harper. After engaging in the world’s most elaborate “Wife Swap” plot, they depart Sicily as loved-up as ever — and perhaps rubbing off on their friends.
Along with the rest of the cast, Fahy and James earned a SAG Award in February for ensemble in a drama, on a night they both describe as “really special” — well,...

When Amber Ruffin begins speaking from the other end of the phone line, she reveals that she’s eaten too many eggs. “Why did I do this?” she ponders. “It’s not normal. I eat a lot of eggs. But I don’t like to leave them because, you know, you can’t reheat them, so that means you have to eat all of them.”
Later on, as Ruffin is recalling how important a friend was in helping her realize she shouldn’t make a joke about Joe Biden’s dead dog, she quickly cuts herself off. “Gosh, you know, if I had a little bit more sense, I would think before I spoke, but I don’t so,” she casually acquiesces. At another point, when asked about the rareness of having her, a Black woman, co-writing a Broadway musical with Matthew Lopez, a gay Puerto Rican man, she responds giddily,...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from Episodes 1 and 2 of “Velma.”
Months ago, fans celebrated the win of Velma Dinkley being written as a lesbian in the Warner Bros. Animation movie “Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!” For years, there had been discussions among fans about the character’s coded queerness, and creatives like James Gunn and Tony Cervone had spoken up about trying — and failing — to explore that in their “Scooby-Doo” projects. So when the marketing for HBO Max’s adult animated series “Velma” didn’t indicate that the title character might be gay — and even revealed that she had a crush on Fred — there was backlash. If the “Scooby-Doo” studio is apparently on board now, why wouldn’t Velma like girls?
The answer is that she does. And so does Daphne. After decades of “friendship” across the plethora of “Scooby-Doo” cartoons, live-action movies and spinoffs, tension breaks and the...
