Lexi Alexander will tackle the bizarre and horrifying story behind Chris Benoit in the biographical film Crossface. Slashfilm writes film itself will be based heavily on the book Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry by Matthew Randazzo V. Of course, many are familiar with the story of the WCW/WWE wrestler who was later found to have tortured and murdered his wife and 7-year-old son after all three were found dead in their home.
The book focuses mainly on Benoit's 22-year career in wrestling and how a man so well liked and known for loving his family could turn on a dime so quickly. Years later, it was shown that Benoit was likely suffering from Cte and that he had the mental functionality of an 88-year-old man with Alzheimers.

Lexi Alexander will direct the Chris Benoit movie, Crossface.
Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone, recent episodes of Arrow and Supergirl) has signed on as director of Crossface, the story of wrestler Chris Benoit, who murdered his wife and child before taking his own life in 2007.
Jake Goldberger and Sarah Coulter are writing the screenplay for Crossface, based on Matthew Randazzo V's book Ring of Hell: The Story Of Chris Benoit & The Fall Of The Pro Wrestling Industry. Randazzo will executive produce with Ram Getz. Alex A Letz and Tony Lee are producing.
“I was pretty certain I’d stay in TV rather than returning to the feature world, because the material just seems so much better in TV, especially in drama, but then Crossface came my way,” Alexander said (via Variety). “A heartbreaking, true story about the dark side of wrestling. … I couldn’t say no to that.

It’s been a long time coming, but the planned biopic revolving around the death of WWE wrestler Chris Benoit is finally moving forward with Punisher: War Zone and Arrow director Lexi Alexander at the helm. Titled Crossface, the movie is based on the book Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit & the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry by Matthew Randazzo V.
One of the biggest stars in WWE at the time of his death in 2007, Benoit has since became best known not for his work in the ring, but because he murdered his wife and son before committing suicide. He was later posthumously diagnosed with Cte, a type of brain degeneration caused by multiple concussions which some doctors argued could have played a role in his actions.
In a recent press release, Alexander had this to say about taking the helm of Crossface (which is named after his finishing movie,...

As producers of the highly anticipated Chris Benoit movie Crossface continue their search for an actor to play the lead role in the controversial biopic, WWE fans wait with baited breath for any news on the project. The will he/won’t he Liev Schreiber saga was recently put to bed by the team behind the film, who denied any truth in the rumour that the Ray Donovan star had been cast as the late Canadian wrestler.
Based on Matthew Randazzo’s book Ring Of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry, the film has been described as a biological thriller that explores the trials and tribulations Benoit faced throughout his illustrious professional wrestling career, exposing his drug-use and depression like never before and leading up to that tragic weekend in 2007 when Benoit murdered his wife and young son before committing suicide.

There was a rumour a few years ago that actor Liev Schreiber was set to star in Crossface, a controversial movie about Chris Benoit.
Based on a book written by Matthew Randazzo titled “Ring Of Hell”, the film would chronicle how Benoit killed his wife Nancy and son Daniel, before committing suicide himself, all over the course of a tragic weekend at his family home in the summer of 2007.
The story first broke in July 2013 but at the time, Schreiber was quick to deny any involvement in the project, which does not have the backing of World Wrestling Entertainment.
However, in the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer mentioned that movie is happening, with Liev Schreiber indeed set for the lead role.
Have the producers behind the movie finally won him over, two years after they reportedly courted him for it?

Srg Films has set Vicente Amorim to direct the highly controversial Chris Benoit biopic Crossface, reports Deadline.
Amorim’s last English language movie was the 2008 Viggo Mortensen starrer Good, about the rise of the Nazi party in Germany as Hitler began to mind-warp good Germans into believing his disturbed ideals. A difficult movie he handled well with a great actor anchoring the project and it’s that kind of astute casting he’ll need here.
Crossface is a re-telling of the tragic double-murder suicide that rocked the wrestling world in the summer of 2007 when the decorated professional wrestler Benoit murdered his wife and young son before taking his own life during one tragic weekend. Benoit, who up until that point was thought of as one of the quietest and respectful men in the wrestling industry, has now effectively been written out of history by the WWE who never refer to...

Exclusive: Srg Films has set Vicente Amorim to direct Crossface, a feature adaptation of the Matthew Randazzo book Ring Of Hell: The Story Of Chris Benoit And The Fall Of The Pro Wrestling Industry. Amorim, who helmed the Viggo Mortensen-starrer Good, will chronicle the pressures that WWE superstar Chris Benoit faced through his wrestling career and how a lethal combination of drug-use, depression, and head trauma became unbearable for him. In 2007, Benoit murdered his wife and young son before taking his own life. Sarah Coulter wrote the script and production is expected to begin next year. “Wrestling is showbiz taken to the extreme and ‘Crossface’ is Limelight on steroids,” said Amorim, who with other directors is currently working on Rio, I Love You. “Chris Benoit’s story is the perfect vehicle for a fiercely honest film that is as much about him and the world of wrestling as it...

X-Men Origins: The Wolverine and Scream star Liev Schreiber will Not be playing the late controversial wrestler Chris Benoit – who murdered his wife and young son back in 2007, then committed suicide – in a big screen biopic. News emerged yesterday at MoviePilot.com that Schreiber was set to lead the “biographical thriller’ but representatives for the actor have told TMZ that it’s not true and he won’t be involved in the production.
Titled Crossface, the movie is based on Matthew Randazzo’s book ‘Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry’, one of many books that were hot shotted onto the market following the tragic events surrounding the Benoit family murders. In his book Randozzo pushes the idea that Benoit’s actions were a result of years of abuse to his brain during his career, a theory that is disputed by...

Liev Schreiber is set to portray former WWE World Champion Chris Benoit in Crossface, a re-telling of the tragic double-murder suicide that rocked the wrestling world in the summer of 2007.
The circumstances surrounding that devastating weekend where Benoit killed his wife and young son, before committing suicide in his home, caused a media sensation that the sports entertainment industry had never before, or has seen, since.
MoviePilot.com say Schreiber will portray Benoit in the film that will cover the Canadian grappler’s early career days, right up to that horrific weekend.
The controversial ‘biographical thriller’ does not have the backing of World Wrestling Entertainment, Chris Benoit’s employer at the time, but former Weinstein Company staffer Sarah Coulter’s script does reportedly include several WWE stars, including the late Eddie Guerrero (Benoit’s good friend who died less than a year before the fatal incident from heart failure), Triple H and even Vince McMahon.
