Last week, buzzing St. Louis rapper Sexyy Red became the latest entertainer to rankle the public by openly supporting former President Donald Trump. During an appearance on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend web show, she said, “Yeah, they support [Trump] in the hood. At first, I don’t think people was fuckin’ with him. They thought he was racist, saying little shit against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Aww baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office.

Among the 400 or so bills that California Governor Gavin Newsom either signed or vetoed this week was Ab 2799, which provides that courts “must consider specified factors…in determining whether creative expression evidence is more prejudicial than probative.”
Newsom signed it into law today at a virtual ceremony attended by Meek Mill, Killer Mike, Too hort, Ty Dolla ign, Yg, E-40 and Tyga, as well as CEO of the Recording Academy Harvey Mason Jr and the bill’s sponsor Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer, D-Los Angeles.
Dubbed the Decriminalizing Artistic Expression Act, the law seeks to — among other things — address the use of rap lyrics as evidence in trials. Specifically, it states that the court must weigh the “value of the evidence against the substantial danger of undue prejudice.”
CA is the 1st state to ensure creative content – like lyrics & music videos – can't be used against artists in court without judicial review.

Many movies choose to feature a casino as part of their story and there are plenty of reasons as to why they are included. The most obvious reason for a casino to feature in modern film is because it is a great setting for an interesting plot to take place. If the film is based in or on a casino, a gambler, or a casino game, it is clear one is going to be included in the movie. The topic could be about professional gambling or someone who runs a casino, in which case, the bulk of the movie is going to feature a casino.

Post Malone has released a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1995 hit song “Only Wanna Be With You” ahead of his performance at the Pokémon Day 25th-anniversary virtual concert on Saturday, February 27th.

This year came packed to the brim with surprises, both good and bad. From a pandemic to randomly appearing monoliths to two albums from Taylor Swift, 2020 has kept people on their toes.
And it’s finally coming to an end. Rather than celebrate the closing of this year at grand, in-person parties or festivals, streamers and linear television networks are offering safe at-home alternatives on Dec. 31. Why go out when you can ring in the new year from your living room, anyways?

We may still have a few questions about this year's MTV Video Music Awards - like who's hosting the night of music - but at least we know everyone who's nominated! Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande are leading the pack of nominees with nine nods each thanks in large part to their instant club collaboration "Rain on Me," followed by Billie Eilish and The Weeknd with six nominations each. Not only does this year's list of nominees host two quarantine-specific categories (best music video from home and best quarantine performance) but it also has a couple of history-makers: Eilish is the first artist in Vma history to nab two video-of-the-year nominations while still in their teens and Grande is the first artist to be nominated for video of the year three years in a row since Beyoncé's run from 2014 to 2016, just to name a couple. Who will take home a "Moon Person" this year?...

The organizers of the 20th annual BET Awards know all too well that 2020 is both different from past years and, sadly, not different enough — and the show kicked off on Sunday night in fiery fashion with a song that sums up both 31 years ago and now: an incendiary new version of Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” that featured new verses from Nas, Yg, the Roots’ Black Thought, Rapsody joining Chuck D and Flava Flav’s classic original lines, accompanied by guest DJ Questlove. The video featured both the performers, footage from the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial in Washington DC, references to Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” (which the original version of “Fight the Power” soundtracked), and vivid footage from recent protest marches all across the country.

Fxx’s ‘Dave': Lil Dicky Wants You to See Him as a ‘Human Being, Not Just a 3-and-a-Half-Minute Song’
You may recognize Lil Dicky for his viral rap videos on YouTube, his curly mop of hair, or for those billboards scattered across Los Angeles that feature him popping out of a pair of briefs like a human penis. But the man with a proclivity for telling sophisticated dick jokes through song is known in some circles by his real name: Dave Burd.
Before Burd became Lil Dicky, the famous rapper, he worked, like most of us, at a regular desk job. But then one fateful day in April of 2013, he released the YouTube music video for his song “Ex-Boyfriend” that went viral overnight, changing his life forever.
That’s the origin story that the rapper, who has since collaborated with artists like Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, Fetty Wapp, and Brendon Urie, tells in his brand-new, semi-autobiographical Fxx comedy series “Dave.” Scooter Braun and Kevin Hart executive produce the series,...

"You're either part of the problem, or you're part of the solution." Cinedigm has revealed an official trailer for an indie drama titled Tuscaloosa, which is indeed set in the town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Based on the Southern novel by W. Glasgow Phillips, this film is set in 1972 and centers around a major civil rights movement. On the verge of entering high society, college graduate Billy Mitchell finds his plans changing when he falls in love with a young patient with multiple personalities at his father's mental institution, and becomes involved in a radical civil rights fight against Tuscaloosa's power elite. Starring Devon Bostick, Natalia Dyer, Marchánt Davis, Tate Donovan, Ella Rae Peck, Nathan Phillips, Birgundi Baker, and hip hop artist / actor Yg. Looks like a radical trip back to the 70s, with some groovy dialogue in there. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Philip Harder's Tuscaloosa, direct from Cinedigm's YouTube: Alabama,...

It's been almost a year since the death of rapper Nipsey Hussle, but his memory lives on. On Sunday night, the late rapper's friends came together to perform a beautiful tribute to his legacy. The performance opened with Meek Mill and Roddy Ricch performing "Letter to Nipsey" before transitioning into DJ Khaled and John Legend's rendition of "Higher."
The song is off DJ Khaled's Father of Asahd album and features both Hussle and Legend, which Khaled highlighted by featuring a video of Hussle in the background. Kirk Franklin joined the act alongside a full choir, with the performance's closing verse delivered by rapper Yg, a close friend to Hussle.

Even though Nipsey Hussle wasn’t physically at the 2020 Grammys, his spirit and presence presided over the proceedings.
Two of Nipsey’s final collaborations before his death — “Racks in the Middle,” featuring Roddy Ricch and Hit-Boy and DJ Khaled’s “Higher” featuring John Legend — won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap/Sung Performance. But the prevailing question throughout the night was how Meek Mill, Roddy, DJ Khaled, Legend and Yg would honor the life of South Central rapper after his death last March within the confines of a restrictive award show.
