And, of course, her cultural center
(Warning: This post contains spoilers through the Season 1 finale of Peacock’s “Rutherford Falls.”)
The last few minutes of the 10th and final episode of Peacock’s “Rutherford Falls” Season 1 take viewers through a real roller coaster of closure and uncertainty, as best friends Reagan Wells (Jana Schmieding) and Nathan Rutherford (Ed Helms) finally make up. Nathan, whose brain is basically broken after finding out he’s not a Rutherford, but a D’Angelo, apologizes to Reagan for only thinking of himself and his desires to uphold his legacy over hers to uphold her Native community’s. And she tells him she is far from fully “getting it” as he thinks she does, and that no one is ever fully in the right over someone else.
Though Nathan isn’t coming home to Rutherford Falls right away — he has a lot to sort out...

‘Rutherford Falls’ Creator on How Terry’s Casino Speech Avoids a ‘Monolith’ View of Native Americans
On most shows, casino owner would be “flattened” villain and “written off as cold and calculating,” Sierra Teller Ornelas tells TheWrap
(Warning: Spoilers ahead through Episode 4 of Peacock’s “Rutherford Falls.”)
“I will not rest until my nation gets every single thing that was taken from them.” That’s how “Rutherford Falls” character Terry Thomas (Michael Greyeyes) ends his three-minute monologue to reporter Josh Carter (Dustin Milligan) after the Native American casino owner is asked if he’s “selling out his culture” by “chasing the almighty dollar.”
It’s a powerful moment in the fourth episode of the new Peacock comedy, which was co-created by Mike Schur, Sierra Teller Ornelas and star Ed Helms. And Ornelas, a Mexican-American member of the Navajo Nation, said the scene gets to the heart of a matter she wanted to hit home with the series: that Native American people are “not a monolith.”

This review contains no spoilers and is based on the first four episodes of Rutherford Falls.
Rutherford Falls, the new Peacock comedy from Ed Helms, Sierra Teller Ornelas, and co-creator Michael Schur, owes a lot to Schur’s previous series, Parks and Recreation. Not only does Rutherford Falls have its mind on civics, community, and bureaucracy, it also aims to have a lived-in quality, with a focus on world-building. In the four episodes screened for critics, Rutherford Falls makes a concerted effort to give every member of the Northeast community a name and a voice, much like the citizens of Pawnee.
Another quality that the fictional Rutherford Falls and Pawnee have in common is their complicated histories with native communities. However, whereas Leslie Knope shrugged and resigned herself to the fact that that the murals in city hall showcased horrific treatment of the Wamapo tribe, the characters of Rutherford Falls are taking a long,...

Phantogram have release a new one-off single, “In a Spiral.” The upbeat song marries a rock beat with a buoyant synth melody as singer and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Barthel howls, “I can see the end is coming round/ Every day, every day, in a spiral/ Better help me now, I’m going down/ Every day, every day, in a spiral.”
“‘In a Spiral’ started from a beat that Josh had in his back pocket for quite some time, which I had gravitated to immediately and written some vocal ideas for,” Barthel said in a statement.

Shaun White is enjoying his downtime as he continues his quest for a third Olympic gold medal.
The Olympic snowboarder — who is in Pyeongchang, South Korea, for his fourth Winter Games — made the most of his day off from competition as he sat back and watched his teammates represent their country.
“Sitting here on my day off watching @teamusa crush it!” White, 31, wrote alongside the snap, which showed him sitting by a window overlooking some Olympic facilities.
But don’t worry, even though he may be enjoying his time off, White’s still focused on his quest to make it back onto the podium,...

Saturday Night Live, a bad rental house, a mean dog and East Los Angeles: That’s the simplest way to start the story of Shaun White’s relationship with rocker Sarah Barthel.
The Olympic snowboarder and two-time gold medalist, who is in Pyeongchang, South Korea, for his fourth Winter Games, sat down with People this week ahead of his competition. During the chat, he opened up about his connection with Barthel, 34, who is one half of the electro-rock band Phantogram.
“It’s funny: We actually met backstage at SNL,” says White, 31. He was in New York City several years ago apartment-hunting and Barthel,...
