Actress Faria Abdullah, who is awaiting the release of her upcoming streaming series ‘The Jengaburu Curse’, has shared that the team went 500 feet deep inside the mines to shoot some scenes of the series. For the same, they had to wear helmets and boots.
The shoot also also led to the dropping of oxygen levels. While talking about her shooting experience, Faria Abdullah, who portrays the character of Priyambada Das said that they had shot at real locations, be it the airport or the market.
She said: “The team has really put in efforts to hold on to the authenticity of the locations. I remember shooting in a buzzing market and the team constantly instructing people to not look in the camera and look elsewhere. The most exciting yet thrilling part of the shoot was to shoot in the real mines.”

Mumbai, Feb 24: While people are more open to films on serious and hard-hitting subjects now, filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda feels the Indian audience still needs to be more accepting towards documentaries.
Panda has submitted his Odia film 'Kalira Atita' for the Oscars and the film will also have world premiere at the 28th Prague International Film Festival next month. The film is about villages being consumed by the sea.
"We have been habituated to a certain kind of cinema. We have all grown up watching Bollywood cinema or regional cinema where everything is larger than life. So, who will be interested in my film that shows plants and trees and is about the sea eating a village? Our audience is habituated with sound, music, larger-than-life stars and sets," said the filmmaker.
"Documentaries don't work here. With Ott, people have gradually started watching documentaries. Nevertheless, I thought let me create a character that is emotive.

Climate change is real and India has been facing problems caused by this for years. Tsunami, earthquakes, floods and draughts can be found in the news from a certain part of the country or the other on a daily basis. However, the number of films dealing with these problems, particularly in the Hindi language is scarce. Nila Madhab Panda’s “Dark Wind” delves into such situations without being preachy about it, using a simple but hard-hitting story.

Winner of the Grand Prix de Montreal at the 21st Festival International du Film Pour Enfants de Montréal Film (Fifem), “Relief” is a rather unusual children’s film, both for the central concept and the general style, which, after a fashion, functions as a parody of Hollywood movies and a rather pointy satire of the Indian ways.
“Relief” runs as part of the 9th edition of the Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival, that runs at 15 cinemas, across London, Birmingham and Manchester, from 21st June to 1st July, with 27 films, including features and short films, in competition. In Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan had played a talented engineer working for Nasa, who comes back to his hometown in India and ends up using his knowledge for the betterment of his village.
We have learned that Radhika Apte will be playing a similar character in upcoming film Kaun Kitne Paani Main, which also stars Kunal Kapoor. Talking about her character, Radhika said, “In the play, I play a girl from a small village, who goes to the city to study and comes back to her hometown because she wants to use her knowledge to help in the development of her village.” Needless to say, this reminded us of Khan’s Mohan Bhargava character from Swades.
Directed by Nila Madhab Panda, Kaun Kitne Paani Main also stars Kunal Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Saurabh Shukla and the film revolves around a love story set against the backdrop of water shortage.

It’s not easy to sculpt a satire out of the raw material of misery. In a wretchedly poor part of Odisha there once lived a low-caste lover-boy who swoons over the zamindar’s daughter and pays with his life for his misplaced ardour.
From this melodramatic starting point director Nila Madhab Panda (I Am Kalam) weaves an intriguing gentle fable of class differences where water is the precious bartering commodity. So we see an over-the-top prostitute being given pouches of water as her price for …ummm…. service rendered. And we see a derelict and obese zamindar drinking whiskey in lieu of water and when quizzed whether he’d like his drink with water or soda, Saurabh gives his man-Friday the kind of shriveling glance that could destroy a whole village of infidels.
Shukla as the doddering relic of a rapidly evaporating feudal order is in splendid form, as usual.

Actress Radhika Apte, who had wowed everyone in the short film Ahalya, will be next seen opposite Kunal Kapoor in Kaun Kitney Paani Main and the actress claims that working on the film made her realize about the water crisis that rural India is facing.
Elaborating on the same, Radhika said, “Director Nila Madhab Panda used to tell us stories about parts of rural India, which have such an acute water shortage that water is actually sold in small packets over there like it is shown in our film. Shooting for the film really opened my eyes about the water crisis that rural India is facing right now and the issues the whole country will have to face if the situation does not improve.”
Radhika will be seen playing an educated girl from a village, who comes back to her hometown to use her knowledge to improve the situation of the village.

Directed by Nila Madhab Panda, this film’s tagline is quite interesting that states “When there is no water, you have to play dirty”. The film has been presented by One Drop Foundation in association with Eleeanora images Pvt Ltd.

Many years ago director Dev Benegal made Split Wide Open with Rahul Bose, a film about water scarcity in Mumbai. When Shekhar Kapoor announced Paani for the first time 10 years ago, Dev Benegal cried foul regarding his film's subject being suspiciously similar to what Shekhar proposed. Now when Shekhar Kapur has begun prepping for Paani with Sushant Singh Rajput, another filmmaker has crept up from behind with a film that sounds like a precursor to Paani. National award winning director Nila Madhab Panda's Kaun Kitne Paani Mein, funded by One Drop, a Canadian no-profit organization devoted to providing drinking water the world over, seems to share uncanny resemblances to Shekhar's Paani. While Kaun Kitne Paani Mein is set in two parts of a village in Odissa named Upri and Bairi where water is a constant source of friction, Shekhar Kapur's Paani will unfold in a futuristic city divided...

The clamor has begun. As many as four films are releasing this Friday and interestingly, each of these belongs to a different genre. ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ is a romantic comedy with a twist. ‘Heartless’ is a romantic drama. ‘Babloo Happy Hai’ is a buddy comedy while ‘Ya Rab’ is a social thriller.
Amongst these four films, ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ would be seeing the widest release, what with Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap joining hands. The film has been promoted quite well while the premise is looking interesting too. Seeing a decent mid-sized release for itself, the Sidharth Malhotra-Parineeti Chopra starrer should enjoy an opening around the 50% mark and then see youth stepping in greater numbers, if the word of mouth is good.
‘Heartless’ is the comeback affair for Adhyayan Suman and has enjoyed decent promotion too. It boasts of some good songs, something that has been the case with Adhyayan right through (Haal-e-Dil,...

National award-winning filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda is in shock over the liberal attitude of the Censor Board Of Film Certification (Cbfc). He had gone for a certification for a censor certificate for his new film Babloo Happy Hai with much trepidation. "My film is about the casual attitude today's youngsters have towards pre-marital sex. Both my earlier feature films I Am Kalam and Jalpari have featured children as protagonists. This is the first time I've gone into adult territory. I thought the censor board would go over-board cutting the scenes and dialogues where sex is discussed explicitly. I thought they'd treat my film like Grand Masti. To my surprise they agreed to give me a UA certificate. The censor board felt youngsters under the age of consent should also know about the pitfalls of pre-marital sex. " It seems it isn't only Panda who earlier made children's films, who has grown up.

Film: "Babloo Happy Hai"; Cast: Sahil Anand, Erica Fernandes; Director: Nila Madhab Panda; Rating: ****
First, a question for the director: Why on earth has he given such a moronic robotic title to a film that informs, entertains and engages our attention? In short "Babloo Happy Hai" does everything cinema is meant to. And it does so with a transparency and sincerity that leave us...well, not quite enchanted, but decidedly involved with the lives of characters who seem to drift in and out of a haze of self-indulgence until their lives come to a stuttering halt.
There is a soulful fluidity to the narration even when the characters seem to be moving aimlessly through a series of misadventures designed to make them look prettier.

2012 turned out to be a year when a number of smaller or independent films made their way onto many Top Ten lists. But, as always, there are films that, for a number of reasons, risk being forgotten or overlooked, especially in a year where there are so many great films to choose from. Here are 13 films – 10 already released, 3 from the festival circuit – that you should have seen in 2012. It’s still not too late!

Nila Madhab Panda deserves accolades for presenting an issue-based film in an entertaining and gripping manner. Jalpari, based on the issue of female foeticide, maintains a fine balance and never goes overboard preaching the cause. In fact, it weaves it cleverly into an adventure thriller which successfully drives the message home and is palatable to children and adults alike.
Shreya Singh is the tomboyish protagonist of the film who is brave, imaginative and adventurous. She goes on a holiday to her ancestral village with her father, grandmother and younger brother. Shreya, after performing a mermaid dance in school, is on a quest for a pond in the village where she can swim like a mermaid.
