Thorvaldur Kristjansson and Hera Hilmar in A Letter From Helga
In a small community at the tip of a remote Icelandic fjord, two farmers who are already married fall in love, turning both their lives upside down. This is the story told in A Letter From Helga, but it’s far more than just a romance, with complex characters and an underlying theme of frustration with the smallness of their world. Thorvaldur Kristjansson stars as the hero, Bjarni, whose passion for the title character is matched by his inability to hold onto her as he struggles with the weight of prior responsibilities. Thorvaldur was thrilled that the film was selected to screen at the Glasgow Film Festival, an happy to meet up for a chat about it whilst the festival was underway. I began by asking him if he was already familiar with the Bergsveinn Birgisson novel on which it...

"It's impossible that this is a coincidence." IFC Films has debuted an official Us trailer for a horror thriller titled I Remember You from Iceland, about a young man and woman who move into a small abandoned town in Iceland to renovate an old house. Of course, this house has a dark past and things start to happen once they arrive. While this trailer is appropriately timed for the horror season this October, the film doesn't actually open until mid-November in America. This stars a fine set of Icelandic actors: Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Thor Kristjansson, Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir & Anna Gunndís Guðmundsdóttir. This looks like another good dark, freaky supernatural thriller with an Icelandic twist. Check it out below. Here's the official Us trailer for Óskar Thór Axelsson's I Remember You, direct from IFC's YouTube: An elderly woman hangs herself in a church. A grieving father searches for the truth...

What once was a traditional rite of passage for Icelandic children has now become punishment. Whereas her mother probably visited her Aunt Ólöf’s (Katla M. Þorgeirsdóttir) farmland to learn responsibility and work ethic away from the allure of her ocean-side city, young Sól (Gríma Valsdóttir) makes the trek as penance for shoplifting — itself a byproduct more or less attributed to her life’s upheaval upon her parents’ separation. Gone are her friends (although she states she has few), her sisters, her mother (besides the oft letter), and her phone (poor rural reception). It is time for Sól to learn independence by being thrown into the deep end. But while Asa Hjorleifsdottir’s debut The Swan is mostly from her perspective, she’s not the only character unlocking her unfiltered identity.

A self-acknowledged "showcase for Academy Award frontrunners," the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is often overlooked for the actual films that earn it festival status. An amalgamation of international discoveries and ’merica’s circuit highlights, the Sbiff curates a week of best-of-the-best to pair with their star-praising. The 2015 edition offers another expansive selection, bookended by two films that aren’t on any radars just yet. Sbiff will open with "Desert Dancer," producer Richard Raymond’s directorial debut. Starring Reece Ritchie and Frieda Pinto, the drama follows a group of friends who wave off the harsh political climate of Iran’s 2009 presidential election in favor of forming a dance team, picking up moves from Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev thanks to the magic of YouTube. The festival will close with "McFarland, USA," starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello. Telling the 1987 true story of a Latino high school’s underdog cross-country team,...

Universal Pictures has released six photos from their upcoming vampire thriller Dracula Untold. I'm a big fan of vampire flicks. I grew up on these kinds of films and this is a very unique take on the legend that I've never seen before. Judging from the trailer that was released, it looks like the filmmakers pulled it off.
The movie has a great cast which includes Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Zach McGowan, Samantha Barks, Thor Kristjansson and Art Parkinson.

Universal's 'Dracula Untold' hits theatres this October with Brit star Luke Evans taking over the legendary role. The studio have revealed a small batch of new stills including a couple of behind the scenes snaps that feature Evans and director Gary Shore. Along with the previously released trailer I can't honestly say I'm sold on this project. I'll admit that vampirism is by far my least enjoyed sub-genre and from all the teasers and assets unleashed on us so far I'm not exactly blown away. Let's hope things can change in the next months leading up to its October premiere. 'Dracula Untold' also stars Sarah Gadon ('The Amazing Spider-Man 2'), Dominic Cooper ('Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'), Zach McGowan, Thor Kristjansson, Art Parkinson, and Samantha Barks ('Les Miserables'). You think you know the story of Dracula, the blood-sucking Prince of Darkness himself? Think again! If you thought that the Twilight saga, The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, HBO’s True Blood and NBC’s Dracula had successfully squeezed all the life from Hollywood’s recent vampire craze… you’re probably right. But that’s not about to stop Universal Pictures from trying to sell you yet another vampire flick this fall with Dracula Untold.
The first trailer for the epic medieval fantasy paints Dracula as the valiant Vlad Tepes (Luke Evans), who makes a deal with the Devil in order to protect his young son from invading Turks. It’s interesting that a character so traditionally vilified will be first seen as a hero in Dracula Untold – but hey, if it worked for Maleficent, who’s saying it won’t work this time around?

Dracula Untold is the new title for Universal Pictures’ upcoming project, formerly known as Dracula: Year Zero. This is the second big announcement from the studio this week, after yesterday’s news concerning the new name and release date for Jurassic Park 4, which is now called Jurassic World.
Dracula Untold stars Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Zach McGowan, Samantha Barks, Thor Kristjansson and Art Parkinson. It tells the origin story of Dracula, combining vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler. For those who don’t know, Vlad was the historical figure who inspired Bram Stoker’s iconic character.
In a recent interview, Evans told Coming Soon the following:
“[Don't think] of the Dracula that Bram Stoker created. The Dracula that I’m going to be portraying is the origin of Dracula. It’s about the man that became Dracula. Don’t be too quick to think he’s a bad guy.

Universal Pictures has announced a new title for their upcoming Dracula movie. It will be called Dracula Untold. It was previously called Dracula: Year Zero, and it stars Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Zach McGowan, Samantha Barks, Thor Kristjansson, and Art Parkinson. The film is being directed by Gary Shore (Wolverine Vs. The Hand), and it's currently in production in Belfast.
There's not much known about the story other than it is "a mix of mythology and true history as it follows the story of Prince Vlad, the inspiration for the Dracula character popularized by the Bram Stoker novel." In a previous interview Evans talked about the movie, saying,
