Ever since 2008's Taken, we haven't seen Oskar Schindler in the same light. Liam Neeson was falling from grace until that smash hit and ever since has been a staple in modern action films including three collaborations with Jaun Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop), most recently the aptly titled Run All Night. Starting out, it seems all too familar. Neeson plays a father figure with a troubled past. He looks like he'll kill you just as fast as he may invite you to the bar for drinks. Considering his most recent work, it seems he's stuck in an infinite loop of playing badass 60-year olds, but he provides some of his best work of recent memory here, and predispositions soon fade. That's not to say this isn't a typecast -- it is -- but he does completely own his role and add depth to this story about fathers protecting what's theirs and owning up to their faults,...

Solid ground doesn’t exist in the cinema of Jaume Collet-Serra and Liam Neeson. Theirs is an action cinema of distress where the mental instability of each protagonist blurs the boundaries of seemingly tight spatial parameters. Conflict unfolds violently and manipulatively within manmade (and psychological) bubbles, as vast as the multiple boroughs of New York City or as small as the cramped fuselage of a passenger jet. There is no escape, only the desperate and unflinching pursuit of truth, moral direction, and family safety. The bad guys often win, but the good guys always gain closure.Angular compositions and desperate tracking shots populate 2011’s Unknown, 2014’s Non-Stop, and 2015’s Run All Night. Images overlap, tip, ascend and dive to visualize the world as one big box of quick sand. The camera propels through space like a boomerang, challenging logic and defying gravity with reckless abandon. Every step forward brings us...

Opening in theaters on Friday, March 13th is Run All Night. The action thriller stars Oscar nominees Liam Neeson and Ed Harris and is directed of Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-stop).
Brooklyn mobster and prolific hit man Jimmy Conlon (Neeson), once known as The Gravedigger, has seen better days. Longtime best friend of mob boss Shawn Maguire (Harris), Jimmy, now 55, is haunted by the sins of his past—as well as a dogged police detective (Vincent D’Onofrio) who’s been one step behind Jimmy for 30 years. Lately, it seems Jimmy’s only solace can be found at the bottom of a whiskey glass.
But when Jimmy’s estranged son, Mike (Joel Kinnaman), becomes a target, Jimmy must make a choice between the crime family he chose and the real family he abandoned long ago. With Mike on the run, Jimmy’s only penance for his past mistakes may be to keep...

It would appear that Liam Neeson is continuing his Charles Bronson-esque revenge spree with Run All Night. After countless of films that are all marketed in the same style as Taken and its sequels, you might be surprised to hear that this new genre exercise is more than just a run and gun thriller. In fact, thanks to a script that lends the occasionally exhaustive action some deeper meaning, Run All Night is one of the best films Liam Neeson has done in years. Now if only Jaume Collet-Serra was as interested in highlighting the drama as much as all the running around, we might have more than just a “good” action marathon.
Neeson plays former hitman and now current alcoholic Jimmy Conlon. Years ago he became notorious in the New York crime scene for his skills of disposing targets. His former boss Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris) has also...

Too long and too same-old, and even Liam Neeson’s effortless tough-guy charm can only carry this familiar-feeling film so far. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Yup. We get it. Liam Neeson is one of the all-time great Hollywood tough guys. I’m not even being sarcastic. In Run All Night, his Jimmy Conlon is an obnoxious alcoholic bum, a former hitman for the Irish mob in New York who’s haunted by all the people he killed. He’s hated by his adult son, Mike (Joel Kinnaman: RoboCop, Easy Money: Hard to Kill), who wants nothing to do with his father, and with good reason: Jimmy Conlon is not a nice man. At all. And yet somehow, Neeson (Taken 3, A Walk Among the Tombstones) suckers us into sympathizing with him...

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra; Screenwriter: Brad Ingelsby; Starring: Liam Neeson, Ed Harris, Joel Kinnaman, Common; Running time: 114 mins; Certificate: 15
Run All Night? More like Plod For 114 Minutes. This pedestrian thriller plonks poor Liam Neeson back in a leather jacket and armed with a gun for another one of those 'Taken Lite' outings. It's a big disappointment given the star's last collaboration with director Jaume Collet-Serra was the hugely enjoyable Non-Stop.
It's an old school tale of divided loyalty that lacks the creative ingenuity required to make it stand out from all the other pretenders. Neeson effortlessly elicits empathy in his role as Jimmy Conlon, a beleaguered, alcoholic hitman who has to choose between saving his estranged son Mike (Joel Kinnaman) or remaining devoted to the honorable but lethal figure of his mob boss Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris).
If the revelation that Ed Harris is playing a character called 'Shawn Maguire' amuses you,...

Man, you’d think that gangsters would have learned not to mess with Liam Neeson’s kids by now, right?
Run All Night finds the actor walking an increasingly well-trodden path: playing a middle-aged man with “a very particular set of skills,” a beaten-up leather jacket, a Beretta and a son in mortal peril. This week’s Bryan Mills happens to be named Jimmy Conlon, a former hitman for an Irish-American mob in New York.
We first meet Jimmy as a pitiable boozehound, derisively mocked by the denizens of his local pub for farting in his sleep. He was once feared as the blunt instrument of mob boss and childhood friend Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris), but the subsequent years haven’t been so kind. Guilt for the death he wrought weighs heavily on his shoulders, mixed with a dash of low-level misery at his surviving family hating his guts. Things...

When it comes down to marketing a film, particularly one with its roots firmly in the action genre, few phrases are recycled as many times as the good ol’ adage stating that “there’s a storm coming.” It’s one that has become trite through repetition, but when your movie has Liam Nesson and Ed Harris square off against one another, then perhaps we can turn a blind eye.
That’s precisely the set-up for Jaume Collett-Sera’s Run All Night, a no-holds-barred B-movie that will have Nesson play the part of Jimmy Conlon, a former hit man whose days of killing are long behind him. That streak soon comes to an end, though, when former friend and mob boss Shawn Maguire (Harris) returns to the fore when his estranged son stumbles in front of Nesson’s proverbial crosshairs. And so, our typically grizzled protagonist must choose between one life and the next.

With Taken 3 kicking all sorts of box office ass at the moment, it seems as though the public hasn't had enough of Liam Neeson's particular set of skills. If you're one of those moviegoers who contributed to the Taken 3 bonanza this past weekend, then you're probably going to like this trailer for Run All Night. In Run All Night, we see Liam Neeson's Jimmy Conlon squaring off against Ed Harris' Shawn Maguire. The two men are friends who've turned enemies after Neeson kills Harris' son to protect his own. Now it's up to Neeson and his son, played by Joel Kinnaman, to stay ahead of Harris' goons, crooked cops, and any one else that stands in the way of the duo surviving a rather perilous night in New York City. After watching the trailer for Run All Night, it looks like the project brings an...

At the ripe old age of 62, Liam Nesson shows no signs of slowing down. Following the breakout success of Taken back in 2008, the Northern Irish star has swapped brooding dramas to become a bona fide action star. And judging by the explosive new trailer for Run All Night, that trend looks set to continue unabated.
Reuniting with director Jaume Collet-Serra — who helped cement Nesson’s action hero credentials through Unknown and last year’s airborne thriller Non-Stop — the actor’s latest outing will have him step into the shoes of “The Gravedigger,” an iconic hitman who soon finds his past catching up with him thick and fast. And one figment that appears to be causing the most concern is Ed Harris’ Shawn Maguire, who leads the charge to target Nesson’s son, played here by Joel Kinnaman.

The project will reunite Neeson with his Unknown and Non-Stop director Jaume Collet-Serra, and features Neeson as - you guessed it - another badass with a gun. Here's the full plot description:

For the second consecutive year, Warner Bros. Pictures International has exceeded the coveted $3 billion mark at the international box office. This benchmark comes on the heels of the release of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, which surpassed $400 million at the international box office this weekend and is still going strong.
Nine Warner Bros. Pictures films have exceeded $100 million internationally, topped by Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (with Paramount Pictures), which has taken in an astounding $467 million outside of the U.S. to date, and Godzilla (with Legendary Pictures), which has earned $327 million overseas.
Four titles – Doug Liman’s Edge Of Tomorrow (with Village Roadshow Pictures), Phil Lord & Christopher Miller’s The Lego Movie (also with Village Roadshow Pictures), and Noam Murro and Zack Snyder’s 300: Rise Of An Empire (with Legendary), along with the 2014 spillover grosses from The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug...
