Stynes and Lukis start on Tuesday
Sydney’s Mix 106.5 will finally put its new breakfast duo of Sami Lukis and Yumi Stynes on air this Tuesday – nine days after the first official radio ratings period of 2013 began.
The duo – Sydney’s first all-female FM breakfast team – were named for the slot by station by owner Australian Radio Network at the end of last year. The move came after the previous lineup split with Claire Hooper leving the station and Tim Ross moving to national drivetime.
Mumbrella understand that the pair, who have not previously worked together, have been in off air rehearsals as they work to build up chemistry.
The show will target a 25-44-year-old female demographic.
Stynes said in this afternoon’s announcement: “We’re very different people with our own take on life but we feel like we’ve been friends for years”.
Lukis added: “I think...

Tim Ross starts his new drivetime show on MixFM next week.
So this week’s he’s knocking around the Macquarie Park offices. Unlike the management, who appear to still be on holiday – including Arn’s CEO Ciaran Davis.
So Rosso is renting out Davis’ office on Gumtree.
He writes in the ad:
“Are you looking for a cheap office to rent on an hourly basis close to the Sydney Cbd? We can’t help with the close to the Cbd but if you like the idea of a short stroll to the food court at the Macquarie Centre then this is perfect.
“Featuring Wifi (slow but free) carparking, a window with a view and conference facilities then you should consider the executive office at Arn a national media company not as well known as Channel 9.
“Our CEO Karen Davis spends a great deal of time interstate leaving his office available for casual rental.

Sydney radio’s bad boys of Alan Jones and Kyle Sandilands have both enjoyed ratings jumps in the latest set of audience numbers from Nielsen.

In the breakfast battle, Jones was the winner with his show on 2Gb jumping by 1.4 points to a share of 18.5%. Last week, 2Gb was censured by the Australian Communications and Media Authority over Jones’ climate change claims. The watchdog also labelled Jones’ comments about Pm Julia Gillard as disrespectful.
Among the commercial FM breakfast shows, The Kyle & Jackie O Show on 2Day FM has consolidated its lead, with a rise of 0.7 points to a share of 10.5%. Acma is currently investigating Sandilands’ “spider baby” jokes and earlier this year censured him for his “piece of shit” attack on journalist Alison Stephenson.
Meanwhile, ABC702′s breakfast show presented by Adam Spencer had the biggest fall, down from 13.6% to 12%.

Curious goings-on during an ad break for Nine’s Sydney broadcast of The Logies. The network aired an ad for Arn’s radio station Mix just before 9.30pm.
Which would have been a pleasing marketing investment to see for Mix 106.5′s Sydney breakfast team of Tim Ross and Claire Hooper.
Except it was a promo for Mix 101.1′s Melboune breakfast team of Chrissie Swan and Jane Hall.
Dr Mumbo suspects that the phone call to the Nine sales team for a makegood is coming right… now.

So today I’ve cleared my diary. As has my colleague Brooke.
You see, there’s something we want to talk to you about.
Here’s our numbers:
Tim Burrowes: 02 8296 0201
Brooke Hemphill: 02 8296 0237
We’re both going to be at our desks, all day.
We want to talk to you about Encore magazine.
Today sees the launch of our iPad app.
I must admit, I’ve had mixed feeling about the iPad in the two years since it launched. There was the initial feeling of excitement. Followed by a slight cynicism as newspapers seized upon it, a little desperately it seemed to me, as their saviour.
But in recent weeks my thinking changed again.
As you may remember, we relaunched Encore magazine late last year – at the same time we moved its focus much more closely to Mumbrella’s audience. After three years away from print, I found myself falling back in love with magazines.

Tim Ross has become a father for the first time. The Australian radio personality, who is married to Michelle, welcomed a baby boy called Bugsy into the world on Saturday. He wrote on Twitter: "Our beautiful boy Bugsy was born on Saturday. Mum and bub doing well. Dad struggling with hospital food." He then posted a picture of a sausage and poached egg. After various friends and fans congratulated him, he wrote: "Thanks for all your kind words about our new little boy and for the n*b jokes about the sausage." Morning Show host Larry Emdur later wrote to Ross: "Huge Yeehah! To Rosso and Michelle on brand new bub! (sic). (more)...
