Three strangers have arrived to the sleepy hollow of Hasting Mills and nothing’s been quite the same ever since. While the police are baffled by a series of suicides off the local bridge, the only link seems to be they’re all teenaged girls suffering from heart break. Reverend Cyrus Christian has arrived for the position of town preacher, while the second stranger Billy Ray Capshaw takes on a job as the church’s handyman. The third drifter is John Root who has caused the gossip mill to run into overdrive taking residence with young Danni Anderson and her adolescent brother Mitch. The Burning Time is the story of John Root, a backwoods magician following a family tradition of investigating the supernatural and ridding the world of Evil influences. In the small town of Hastings Mills, John confronts the Trickster, an ancient demon that has already killed John’s mother and is now preparing to open the gates to another dimension and let loose the Elder Gods. In the midst of this classic struggle of good versus evil, John falls in love with a woman against his better judgment, raising the stakes even higher. As the Trickster grows stronger, and the town moves closer to destruction, John finds himself faced with a terrible choice: destroy his nemesis and risk the life of his new love, or save the girl and possibly condemn all of Hastings Mills to Hell.
With The Burning Time, Mr. Faherty, in my opinion has written his best tale to date.
