Matthew Vaughn has implored Marvel to focus on quality over quantity. The 'Kick-Ass' director fears that "superhero fatigue" is having an impact on movies in the genre and urged the major studios not to bore audiences with so many projects.Speaking to Screen Rant, Matthew said: "I think at least DC is under; I think James Gunn and (Peter Safran) they've got a good chance of popping, and hopefully, (Kevin) Feige will go back to less is more and make less films and concentrate on making them great."The 52-year-old director was shocked that 'The Flash' – a film that he "really enjoyed" – bombed at the box office earlier this year and wonders if it was due to audience exasperation.Matthew explained: "What really freaked me out was that I really enjoyed 'The Flash'. I thought it was a really good film, right? And it died at the box office,...

Matthew Vaughn is no stranger to the superhero genre being the director of Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class and has a suggestion for Marvel Studios and DC as “superhero fatigue” continues to be a topic of conversation.
“I think at least DC is under; I think James Gunn and [Peter Safran] they’ve got a good chance of popping, and hopefully, [Kevin] Feige will go back to less is more and make less films and concentrate on making them great,” Vaughn said in an interview with Screen Rant.
Vaughn also feels that superhero movies rely too much on CGI saying that it has “f***ed up everything as well because you feel like you’re watching a video game.”
“You’re not with the characters. Apart from Guardians, I still think Groot and the racoon are f***ing pieces of genius, that I feel so much for them. So I’ll be intrigued,...

X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has some ideas for another popular franchise.
The filmmaker would be interested in rebooting the original Star Wars films with a fresh set of actors playing Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones).
“For me, doing a Star Wars movie is to play with the characters that I loved,” he said on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “If they said to me, do you want to reboot Star Wars and actually have Luke Skywalker, Solo and Vader and do your version of it? Everyone would say you’re an idiot to try, but that would excite me. … Why are the characters so hallowed that from 1977 that you can’t re-do it for a new audience?”
He explained that Star Wars is the Skywalker family, and he feels like Lucasfilm and Disney...

Matthew Vaughn is weighing in on the direction of the “Star Wars” film franchise.
The “X-Men: First Class” director said during the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he would only be interested in helming a “Star Wars” film if he could recast the core original characters Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Darth Vader for a new generation.
“For me, doing a ‘Star Wars’ movie is to play with the characters I love. If they said to me they’d reboot ‘Star Wars’ and actually have Luke Skywalker, Solo, and Vader and do your version of it…Everyone would say you’re an idiot to try, but that would excite me,” Vaughn said. “Why are the [‘Star Wars’] characters so hallowed that from 1977 you can’t re-do it for a new audience?”
He added, “That’s what I would do. Everyone is going to go batshit crazy but let’s bring it on.

Matthew Vaughn had a long conversation with “Happy Sad Confused” this week about his new film “Argylle” and just about everything else he’s done in his career. That includes Vaughn’s aspirations for an McU-like spy cinematic universe at Marv that combines “Argylle,” the “Kingsman” franchise, and a third franchise he has in the works. And the backlash he received from Fox ececs for exiting “X-Men: The Last Stand“ just days before production started.

Before Warner Bros. launched the Dceu with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar had pitched a Superman trilogy that would have reinvented the iconic hero in a big way.
While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Matthew Vaughn said, “Mark and I sat down and plotted out a three film trilogy, pitched it to Warner Bros. before ‘Man of Steel’… we pitched how to do a trilogy of Superman movies and Warners said they weren’t interested. That’s as far as it went.” That may be as far as it went for Warner Bros., but Vaughn did spill a few details of what he had in mind.
Vaughn would have embraced the tone of the original Richard Donner Superman movie but with a modern sensibility. It also would have changed Superman’s origin in a big way. “I think Donner nailed it,” Vaughn said.

“Kingsman” and “Argylle” director Matthew Vaughn says he sees his spy franchises as being part of the same universe and that at some point they will intersect.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz on his podcast “Happy Sad Confused,” which you can watch above, Vaughn also addressed his potential studio partners for the spy universe.
“What Marvel is to superheroes, we want to be to spies,” Vaughn said. “We’ve got the ‘Kingsman’ on the right. ‘Argylle’ is on the left. We’ve got an idea for something in the middle, as well. We’ve got these competing franchises in a galaxy that one day might meet.”
Vaughn self-funds his movies and distributors don’t see his movies until they are finished (he has said previously that a rapturous response at Comic-Con is what got “Kick-Ass” released). The “Kingsman” movies were released with 20th Century (now Disney) but Vaughn and...

Matthew Vaughn returns to theaters next February with “Argylle,” his latest loony spy feature. But in the build-up to his new film, the director has been candid about his career’s earlier work, particularly a film he walked away from: “X-Men: The Last Stand.” Vaughn was initially scheduled to direct the film, but he bailed on it after concerns about the budget and how fast producers wanted it.

We're still waiting on a third proper entry in the "Kingsman" series (which very well may still happen), but even without the return of Taron Egerton as Eggsy, the franchise may live on in a pretty unexpected way. It was recently revealed by director Matthew Vaughn that a script for a sequel to 2021's "The King's Man," which was a prequel set during World War I, has been written. It would fulfill the promise of the first movie's wild post-credits scene and give us a "Kingsman" movie featuring Adolf Hitler as the villain.
But will it happen? Should it happen? Many questions linger at the thought of this movie becoming a reality.
"The next one is about the rise of Hitler, and how Hitler did come to power and basically was supported by the English aristocracy," Vaughn told Collider recently. The filmmaker, who also directed both "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and "Kingsman: The Golden Circle,...

Matthew Vaughn is opening up about one of the reasons he had for quitting directing X-Men: The Last Stand. The director revealed during New York Comic Con he left the film after finding out a scheme to get Halle Berry to sign on to reprise her role of Storm by tricking her with a fake script.
“One of the main reasons I quit X-Men 3, and this is a true story. Hollywood is really political and odd,” he said during Nycc (via ScreenRant). “I went to an executive’s office and I saw an X3 script. It was a lot fatter. I asked, ‘What is this draft?’ They were like, ‘Don’t worry about it.'”
He continued, “So I grabbed it, and opened the first page, and it said, ‘Africa. Kids dying from no water, and Storm creates a thunderstorm to save all these children.’ I thought it was a pretty cool idea.

Justin Theroux has no love for his former “Sex and the City” character, Jared.
In honour of the show’s 25th anniversary, Vanity Fair posed the question of “Who was the worst man on ‘Sex and the City’?” via Instagram. The comments rolled in fast and furious, with several celebrities offering their opinions in the comments. Hilariously, Theroux roasted himself by commenting “Jared,” a bit part he played in the show’s first season.
Fans may remember Jared as an up-and-coming author who has a brief interaction with Sarah Jessica Parker‘s Carrie Bradshaw. In his quick scene, Jared appears as a decidedly uncool friend of Stanford (Willie Garson) who is apparently named among New York Magazine‘s “30 Coolest People Under 30.” He brags about his book and urges Carrie to write about him in her column — and is never seen again.

When you get The Complete Something, you expect some kind of explanation of what Something is, maybe a potted history, maybe an appreciation by an illustrious colleague or someone famous from a younger generation. Sure, the audience mostly knows the details of Something, but there’s always a host of commonly misremembered and mythologized factoids – plus makers of books do want to draw in new readers every once in a while.
Cheech Wizard’s Book of Me is, I think, The Complete This. And there is a foreword by cartoonist Vaughn Bode’s son Mark Bode – himself a reasonably notable cartoonist – as by “Da’ Lizard” – which does, in its single page, give a few details. And there’s some scattered text here and there with some other context.
But Book of Me starts out with about thirty pages of sketchbooks and similar non-story material, which admittedly does include a lot...
