Los Angeles, July 15 (Ians) Screenwriter-director John Ridley, best known for writing the Oscar winning 2013 film ’12 Years A Slave’, is now putting his own spin on the sci-fi alien invasion genre with ‘Ministry of Compliance’, an upcoming sci-fi thriller for comic book publisher Idw.
Known for his unique writing abilities, John Ridley’s style has been critically acclaimed, and this new comic promises to be a thrilling and thought-provoking addition to the genre. Never let it be said that Brian Michael Bendis doesn’t know how to keep busy. The prolific writer has had his hands full since coming to DC in 2018. Arriving with much fanfare on both Superman and Action Comics, Bendis also relaunched Young Justice, co-created a new DC mainstay in Naomi, wrote the excellent Batman: Universe, shepherded the Event Leviathan mini, and more. All of these books introduced new characters, re-tooled existing ones (such as aging up young Jonathan Kent to his mid-teens), and set various wheels in motion throughout the DC Universe.
And in the midst of that he also rebooted the team with the largest roster in all of comics, the one that brings with it the most complex web of continuity, the one that requires the most amount of worldbuilding by virtue of its 31st century setting.

DC Comics' "Legion of Super-Heroes" #10, now available, is written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Ryan Sook, Wade Von Grawbadger, with covers by Sook and Andre Araujo:
"...a grudge that has endured 1,000 years. Now, the unstoppable behemoth 'Rogol Zaar' has survived the millennium to haunt 'Jonathan Kent' where he least expected it. It's a menace so terrible the 'Legion of Super-Heroes' may not survive.
"Was this the challenge 'Brainiac 5' predicted? Is the Legion up to the task? Plus, who is dating whom in the 31st century?..."

It’s somehow almost 2021, which means the DC Universe is about to enter its Future State, the big two month crossover that kicks off the new year by pausing its regular line, and diving deep into the wild, varied timelines and parallel universes for new angles from fresh creators. And we are happy to have your exclusive first look at the February covers and solicitations for the Justice League family of books.
Since half the fun of solicits is trying to piece together what’s happening in the book from the 50 words and a cover, we decided to engage in some wild, semi-informed speculation on what might be coming from DC’s event.
Let’s get right to it: Future State has a very strong Seven Soldiers of Victory vibe.
The original Seven Soldiers were briefly a superteam from the ’40s, brought back sporadically whenever a comic needed a nostalgia boost,...

Don't call it a reboot. Brian Michael Bendis tells us all about the new version of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the DC Universe.
The Legion of Super-Heroes have been absent from the DC Universe for far too long. The team of youthful heroes from a variety of worlds around the galaxy has long been an essential piece of DC and Superman mythology, but every now and then, they need a fresh start. After all, as our present changes, so must the future. And DC's Legion of Super-Heroes is in the process of a high profile fresh start courtesy of Brian Michael Bendis and Ryan Sook. With a story that began in the main Superman title and continues through the "future history of the DC Universe" limited series Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium, and finally in a brand new Legion of Super-Heroes ongoing series in November, DC...

It's official! Superboy will be part of the DC Legion of Super-Heroes reboot.
The return of DC's best super-team is going to feature even more of the best heroes when Legion of Super-Heroes: Millenium #1 hits in October. Also Superman and Lois's son from the present is being shot into the future to join the Legion after being aged to his teen years via time dilation.
"Jon Kent is joining the Legion" is probably a little more sexy than "Look at this dope Element Lad redesign" but that's the beauty of this Ryan Sook-drawn cover to issue 2 of Legion of Super-Heroes: Millenium. It's a great storytelling image that has so much going on in the background, I could stare at it for hours trying to pick out all the different parts of it. The Legion of Superheroes finally returns to the DC Universe this September!
After nearly five years away from comics with only a scant cameo to show for it, the Legion of Superheroes, the best superteam in the entire DC Comics stable, is finally returning.
In September, a two issue introductory series that will serve as a guide through all of DC's various future timelines begins. Legion of Superheroes: Millennium will be written by Brian Michael Bendis with art from an absurd lineup of creators. The story begins with a newly immortal character who learns to deal with her longevity through the course of the 1000 years leading up to the formation of the Legion.
Here's the official synopsis, courtesy of DC Comics:
The series focuses on a most unlikely tour guide to the 31st century, a familiar face to DC fans who finds herself suddenly immortal. As...

The devastating repercussions from the Man of Steel graphic novel still reverberate as Metropolis enters a new age as The Daily Planet teeters on the brink of disaster; and a new criminal element has made its way onto the streets of Superman’s hometown.
Superman: Action Comics Vol.1 – Invisible Mafia is the first volume in the new Brian Michael Bendis era of Action Comics, having taken over the title following his debut with the Man of Steel mini-series. As he did with the Marvel Universe, Bendis’ role at DC was clear – revitalise Superman and make him relevant in the pages Action Comics in much the same way he did the Avengers.
That revitalisation of Marvel, in particular with New Avengers, is actually what got me back into comics as a whole.

Batgirl and Blue Beetle kick off this pivotal issue of Heroes in Crisis on the sidelines of the Harley/Booster battle.
Heroes in Crisis is one of the most interesting blockbuster comics to come along in a very long time. Plot-wise, it's almost a bog-standard superhero whodunit. There were a series of impossible murders. Something about the evidence doesn't make sense. The capes investigate. The superheroes find their attacker. The story is advanced. But if you look even a centimeter deeper than that, it is maybe the most deconstructive superhero comic since Watchmen.
Ever since 1986, superhero books and their associated media have been obsessed with asking "What if superheroes were real!?!?!?!?!?!?" For the most part, the answers those books came up with involved shouting Boobs at the reader while someone was bloodily murdered in the background. Some people were exceptionally successful at using deconstruction to tell better...

Not long ago, the comic book world was knocked on its collective rear upon hearing that one of Marvel’s greatest stalwarts, Brian Michael Bendis, was finally packing up and leaving town to work exclusively with DC. Granted, most big name creators hop between both major publishers at various points throughout their respective careers and we knew the day would probably come for Bendis, but the news was no less shocking.
Now, it’s only understandable that fans and journalists alike speculated as to which titles Bendis would actually pen. Having charted new territory for the likes of the Avengers, X-Men, and Spider-Man during his stay at the House of Ideas – in addition to being the chief architect behind many of their major crossover events – one would naturally expect him to take over a top tier title, and that’s exactly what’s happening as he’ll soon take the...

For the past few years, DC has partnered with comic shops, major bookstores and other various retailers in order to bring us Batman Day. Serving as a celebration of all things Dark Knight, each have offered free reprints (and sometimes new stories altogether) of some of the Caped Crusader’s key adventures, not to mention other promo goodies. Basically, it feels like Free Comic Book Day all over again, only with the focus placed squarely on the timeless icon.
While the festivities continuing into this year seemed like a foregone conclusion, we all wondered which books participating stores would be offering. Well, as it turns out, Harley Quinn is taking over with the intention of celebrating her 25th anniversary.

Since the dawn of the Rebirth era, the Superman family of books have absolutely been on fire, restoring the Man of Steel and his related to characters to their former glory that some readers thought the New 52 simply lacked. And, from what we can tell, they won’t cool off anytime in the foreseeable future. In fact, just this week, we found out that Big Blue and Lex Luthor are set to confront Mr. Oz over in Action Comics this August and, that very same month, his eponymous title will take full advantage of the crossover potential that comes with being a part of the DC Universe.
You see, this summer, Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason intend on calling back to their days of working on Green Lantern Corps by getting Superman mixed up with this guy named Sinestro. Perhaps you’ve heard of him. And while the creative...

Although the “Black Dawn” story arc currently unfolding in the pages of Superman may not be as strong as previous offerings, we can probably all agree that it’s still a decent read and that the creative team of Peter J. Tomasi, Pat Gleason and Doug Mahnke haven’t really steered us wrong since taking the wheel at the start of Rebirth.
If you’ve been keeping up with the title, you’re well aware that the Kent family’s neighbor who looks an awful lot like Wilford Brimley isn’t exactly what he seems to be and has so far succeeded in getting the drop on Batman and Superman alike. And from what we can tell, a mysterious force is pulling the strings of both him and the townsfolk.
Now, when the “Black Dawn” finale, Superman #25, was originally solicited, a cover didn’t accompany it, but here’s what...

Not long ago, we reported on Christopher Priest taking Deathstroke in a bold new direction beginning in July. Seeing as how Slade Wilson’s solo series has had a mature, HBO-style dramatic tone to it, it had us wondering if it’d be lightened up or we’d get a more popcorn, action-heavy book.
As it turns out, the new direction is much bolder than we imagined. Seriously, did any of us foresee Deathstroke forming a team of superheroes? I didn’t think so.
Uniting the likes of Terra with his children, Rose and Jericho, in addition to former Teen Titans in Power Girl and Kid Flash, one has to wonder just what the events to be witnessed in the forthcoming crossover, “The Lazarus Contract,” will yield. But as thought provoking as this may seem, it’s hard to shake the fact that certain aspects of said crossover have now been spoiled.

Inhumans vs. X-Men is over. Now, it’s time for ResurrXion to take effect, with Inhumans: Prime #1 poised to be the catalyst that kicks-off the Royal Family’s future adventures. It’s a monumental task as this one-shot’s meant to lay the groundwork for Royals, Secret Warriors and Black Bolt, as well as introduce newcomers to the characters. The question is, does it achieve all of its goals?
From a storyline perspective, this issue takes the easy road, touching briefly on the events of Inhumans vs. X-Men before setting up a clash between Maximus and his peeps and the Inhumans at the Grand Canyon. Each side demonstrates their special skills, but it’s the good guys who come out on top (as expected). Undoubtedly, this clash stands out as the main highlight of the book, as the rest of the issue spends its time being an extended epilogue for the spinoffs.

Before you know it, Inhumans vs. X-Men will have concluded and ResurrXion will be in full swing. Yesterday, Marvel afforded us a deeper look at an oversized one-shot that will begin a new status quo for mutants with X-Men: Prime #1 and, today, we get to see how the other half lives with Inhumans: Prime #1.
Much like the X-Men’s deluxe extravaganza, this issue will set the stage for a number of key titles pertaining to the Inhumans, specifically Royals, Secret Warriors and Black Bolt. But where this differs is that this won’t be handled by as many artists and writers. Instead, Al Ewing is slated to pen the entire thing, with artwork being provided by Ryan Sook and Chris Allen.

Visit any comic book forum and you’re likely to find everyone gushing about Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason’s latest Superman arc, “Multiplicity.” Seeing the Supermen from different Earths and Multiverse all in one book has turned into many fans’ biggest wet dream. I mean, who wouldn’t geek out seeing the current Man of Steel team-up with Red Son Superman? With expectation at an all-time high and fans craving more, Superman #15 needed to leap even higher than its predecessor.
After being alerted of the capture of Earth 14’s Superman and the demise of the Justice League of Assassins, Clark and Justice Incarnate travel across the different Earths, trying to pull each ‘Super’ to safety. They meet resistance along the way – specifically from Earth 13’s Etrigan the Demon, who requires a little more ‘forceful’ persuasion. With all the remaining Supermen gathered in one place, Clark discusses his plan of using them as bait.

Despite the first episode not having hit airwaves yet, fans have already begun placing their bets on who the culprit may be (my money is on Cheryl Blossom, in case you’re wondering).
In addition to that, the folks at Archie Comics have let this new take spill over into the realm that inspired it. Aside from the recently announced Free Comic Book Day sampler, a special one-shot written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and illustrated by Alitha Martinez will...

Boom! Studios is at the Emerald City Comicon today to announce a new comic called Kong of Skull Island, which will serve as a prequel to the classic film. At first, I thought we were looking at an adaptation or a tie-in to the new film from Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Kong: Skull Island, but this Boom! Studios comic is a totally different thing. James Asmus (All-New Inhumans) is the writer for the limited series, while Carlos Magno is going to be the artist. The first issue will have a number of alternate covers from guys like Eric Powell, Ryan Sook, Paul Pope, Nick Robles, and Felipe Massafera, whose art you can see below. The logline for the series is, “Two fractured and combative civilizations are forced to band together as they venture into Skull Island — their new home.” Setting stories on Skull Island seems like the best way to keep telling Kong stories,...

It’s that time again… okay, it’s a little past that normal time, thanks to the Mix March Madness wrapup, but here are the preview materials for DC Comics releases for July 2012.
What’s on tap this month? More of the Before Watchmen books, with the debut of Ozymandias from Len Wein and Jae Lee, the conclusion of the Court of Owls storyline and crossover in all the Bat-books, and the debut of the done-in-one book, National Comics, featuring the New 52 Debut (coming right at you) of Eternity.
And in the white elephant of desire category, there’s the $300 statue showing the climactic scene from The Dark Knight Returns.
Once more, into the breach? Banzai!
As always, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.
Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #1
Written by Len Wein
Art and cover by Jae Lee
Backup story art by John Higgins
1:25 Variant cover by Phil Jimenez...

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.
Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.
