Well, it seems the possibility is high since the acclaimed action franchise is expanding again with Donnie Yen’s enigmatic character, Caine, the blind master of lethality. For the unversed, he was introduced to us in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).

The John Wick universe continues to grow, with Donnie Yen to get his own spin-off. The film will continue the adventures of his character, Caine.
Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski, star and director of the popular John Wick series, may be taking a well-earned break from the franchise, but that isn’t stopping Lionsgate from finding ways to keep the good ship Wick on its journey to box office dollars.
There’s the TV prequel spin-off, The Continental, which has already released, not to mention Ballerina, the recently-delayed spin-off movie that will feature Ana de Armas as an assassin who looks to have graduated from the same killing school that taught John Wick himself.
Gird yourself for more stories from the John Wick universe, though, as it’s been announced by Lionsgate (thanks Dark Horizons) that Donnie Yen’s Caine character will also be getting a spin-off film. It will...

Donnie Yen isn’t done with his role as the blind assassin Caine from John Wick: Chapter 4 quite yet.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the veteran Hong Kong action star will return in a spinoff picking up with his character being freed of his obligations to the High Table after the final events of John Wick 4.
“Working on John Wick: Chapter 4 was an extraordinary experience. The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil, and Erica push themselves to create action, fights, and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive, and artistic, but also expressive of character, story, and emotion,” Yen said in a statement. “Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role.”

Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen’s Caine assassin character.
Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table.
The project also follows Yen, a veteran Hong Kong action hero, pushing back against what he claimed were Asian stereotypes in the original script for John Wick 4. After some prodding, John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski agreed to change the name and clothes for Yen’s character.
China-born Yen is a household name internationally thanks to his hugely popular and acclaimed Ip Man movie series, and he has crossed over to Hollywood with outings in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which grossed over a billion dollars,...

One of Hollywood’s greatest living actors, Michael Caine, is sending his fans into a tizzy over a photo posted to his personal Twitter account. The image depicts an impressive stack of Caine’s films on DVD and Blu-ray, encapsulating the highs and lows of his storied career as an entertainer. While gems like Get Carter, The Last Valley, and Harry Brown adorn the pile, cinematic blights like On Deadly Ground, Jaws: The Revenge, and The Island sit among the crowd.
The variety of films in Caine’s collection speaks volumes about the actor’s sense of humor and accomplishment. While some actors tend to want to cast their cinematic sins to the fiery depths, Caine proudly displays several of his biggest box office bombs and critically panned misfires. For example, Peter Benchley’s The Island is an insane bit of cinema featuring Caine as a kidnap victim of inbred pirates.

Three years after the first James Bond film, "Dr. No," a handful of folks who were working on the existing James Bond movies temporarily splintered off to make a completely different kind of spy film. 1965's "The Ipcress File" stars Michael Caine as Harry Palmer, a British secret agent who is much more interested in cooking a high quality meal than skiing off a cliff or dropping quippy one-liners after creatively killing his enemies. There are no scantily clad women, no suggestive double entendres, and no laser beams or gadgets -- in many ways, it's the anti-James Bond movie.
All the more interesting, then, that a handful of key Bond players helped bring this story to the big screen. "The Ipcress File" was scored by John Barry, who was responsible for that iconic James Bond theme song and composed the score for several early Bond pictures, including "Goldfinger" (coincidentally, Michael...

Cillian Murphy’s Oscars win was special on many grounds, primarily his first Christopher Nolan film as a lead in their sixth collaboration. Oppenheimer is a remarkable film, and Nolan’s vision added to the aesthetic grandness of the biopic, turning it into a cinematic masterpiece.

John Wick has been one of the most iconic action franchises in all of Hollywood. Keanu Reeves’s portrayal of the titular character was incredible, to say the least. Not only were the fight sequences captivating, but the world that the story built and the dynamics were some of the most interesting in the genre.

While the series had an excellent run, the main story of Wick finished with the fourth part, which ended with Reeves’s character passing. It is only natural that fans cannot let this be the end of his character when the series is still going on. With Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy marked their sixth collaboration. Celebrating the biggest movie of Murphy’s career as a lead, the movie secured 13 Oscar nods. However, there is still a void in their collaboration and Murphy has not shied away from pouting about it.
Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer
Fans may believe that the unavoidable bond between Murphy and Nolan has been the longest and everlasting, of course, it is but the Irish actor still has a complaint. Murphy was opted out of the cast of one of Nolan’s sci-fi epics that redefined the space narrative and is considered one of the best since Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi epic 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Daniel Craig is an unquestionably charismatic actor, demonstrating remarkable acting prowess since his career’s inception with Casino Royale. His James Bond movies, in particular, have achieved widespread success, with Craig leaving an indelible mark on the franchise. He redefined James Bond with his charming and charismatic action sequences and performances. With him out of the picture now, it appears Michael Caine has one specific Marvel star in mind to portray James Bond.

Daniel Craig starred in five films as part of the James Bond franchise over the years. Beginning with Casino Royale in 2006, he continued with Quantum of Solace in 2008, followed by Skyfall in 2012, Spectre in 2015, and concluding his run with No Time to Die in 2021.

Christopher Nolan’s latest awards contender Oppenheimer markets itself as the director’s sixth collaboration with actor Cillian Murphy. But notably missing from the A-list ensemble is Nolan’s most frequent star and popcorn movie muse, Michael Caine. Accepting a career honor recently, Nolan fondly recalled Caine jokingly “breaking up” with him over not casting the actor in his biopic of the atomic bomb’s creator. It seems after eight iconic joint projects spanning nearly 20 years, Caine is ready to end their shared run unless Nolan can coax him back.

Christopher Nolan and Michael Caine are a duo who have frequently collaborated together for several years in Hollywood. From The Dark Knight trilogy to Interstellar, Caine was an integral part of Nolan’s films until Oppenheimer.
Since the duo had worked together for several years, Michael Caine joked that he would not like to work in Oppenheimer and would like to sit this one out. In response, Christopher Nolan stated that he needed 7 different actors as replacements for Michael Caine’s absence in Oppenheimer!

“Oppenheimer” was notably marketed in the press as the sixth collaboration between director Christopher Nolan and star Cillian Murphy, who was finally getting his chance to lead a Nolan movie after five supporting turns in films such as “Batman Begins” and “Dunkirk.” Nolan has another longtime collaborator in Michael Caine, who got a special shoutout when the filmmaker accepted the BFI Fellowship this week at the British Film Institute chairman’s dinner (via The Independent).
Nolan, who many awards pundits agree is the BAFTA and Oscar frontrunner for best director and best picture thanks to “Oppenheimer,” remembered Caine joking to him about not being able to star in the atomic bomb epic.

When ‘Joker’ Heath Ledger Left His ‘The Dark Knight’ Co-Star Stunned With His Performance ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Christopher Nolan has given the world some fantastic movies, but one of his best contributions to the world of cinema is casting Heath Ledger as Joker in The Dark Knight. The actor passed away at a young age but left his mark in the world. He won several accolades, including the Golden Globes and the Academy Award for his portrayal.
Recently, during this year’s Golden Globes ceremony, Nolan revealed that the last he was on the stage, he was accepting an award for Heath. Hence, it was an emotional moment for the filmmaker. Heath brought in his input while portraying the character in Nolan’s film, which the Oppenheimer maker initially doubted but decided to trust the artist in him.

It’s Oscar night 1987, Jeff Bridges and Sigourney Weaver are dressed up all fancy, ready to tear open that majestic envelope and read the name of the best supporting actor of the year. The competition was tough but when but the victor of the night was that of Sir Michael Caine for his wonderful performance in the Woody Allen flick Hannah and Her Sisters. The audiences erupted with applause as they celebrated Mr. Caine’s triumphant Oscar glory. But then silence nothing… the actor is nowhere to be found. Where could he be? What event could drag him away from this ceremony? Unfortunately, it would turn out the Michael Caine was stuck in the furious jaws of Universal and was out battling stupid sharks instead. That’s right, Michael Caine missed this Oscars because of Jaws: The Revenge. Was it worth it? Of the universally panned sharkie fourquel, Michael Caine said,...

Classic 1970s television series Kung Fu is heading to the big screen, and Donnie Yen will star – more here.
A feature film based on the classic 1970s TV series Kung Fu has been in development for some time, and now it seems to be moving forward at Universal Pictures and 87North.
According to Deadline, John Wick director David Leitch will helm the film from a screenplay by Stephen Chin, with Ip Man star Donnie Yen set to play Kwai Chang Caine, a role first inhabited by David Carradine.
Martial arts icon Bruce Lee famously auditioned for the lead role in the original 1972 series, but lost out, of course, to Carradine. He played Caine, a spiritual monk who roams the Old West in the 1800s, wandering into confrontations and fist fights every week. The show proved popular, with phrases like ‘grasshopper’ making their way into the cultural lexicon.

With a film based on one cult TV series on the way, it appears that David Leitch is not done digging into nostalgia for movies. He and his 87North production partners are now developing a film based on 1970s series Kung Fu, with Donnie Yen lined up to star.
Stephen Chin has written the script for the new film, which will put a new spin on the show. Created by Ed Spielman, the original series ran between 1972 and 1975 on ABC and starred David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine, a master martial artist who fled China after his master was murdered.
He wandered the Old West helping the downtrodden and weathering rampant racism while eluding assassins trying to kill him. He was a peaceful man until provoked, which happened at least once an episode.

David Leitch’s 87North is getting ready to reboot the classic martial arts/ western series Kung Fu, and it looks like they’ve found their Caine: the one and only Donnie Yen. The press release doesn’t reveal if Yen is actually playing Caine, but it seems like a no-brainer. The series was infamously developed by Bruce Lee as a starring vehicle for himself, only for the role to be eventually cast with David Carradine in the lead. In the end, it worked out fine, with Bruce Lee gaining immortality with his kung-fu movies for Golden Harvest in Hong Kong (which would have never happened had he been tied to a series), while Carradine became iconic as the enigmatic Caine.

Sarah Rice, who performed the pivotal role of the endangered Johanna in the original Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, died Saturday of cancer. She was 68.
Her death was announced in an Instagram post by her friend and fellow performer Rebecca Caine, who remembered Rice for her love of animals. “May you be greeted by every animal you ever loved on the other side and may green finch and linnet birds sing you to your rest,” wrote Caine, referring to the Sweeney number “Green Finch & Linnet Bird” performed by the Johanna character.
Rice, whose Sweeney role in 1979 was her first and only Broadway performance, revisited her signature song just two years ago at the Sondheim Unplugged concert staged at New York’s 54 Below.

While we were all sad to hear that Michael Caine is retired, he most certainly earned the right to just kick back and just spend his days reading…or writing. And that’s just what Michael Caine has done, releasing his first novel at the age of 90.
Michael Caine’s thriller, Deadly Game, finds career criminal catcher Dci agent Harry Taylor tracking down a mysterious box of uranium and various nefarious types who might be tied to the contents. While I haven’t read the book in its entirety, the first few pages – and the plot itself – give off the sort of vibe of the movies that Michael Caine would have starred in in the ‘60s and ‘70s. No doubt that the lead character’s name, Harry, calls to mind his recurring spy character Harry Palmer and vigilante Harry Brown, the titular character that gave Caine one of the meatiest...

"John Wick" is the little action franchise that could. The series has become so huge and operatic that it's easy to forget that at one point, no one seemed very interested. When it came to the first film, producers struggled to find theatrical distributors, and star Keanu Reeves was coming off a stirring of box office disappointments. There was talk of sending the first film to VOD, where it might die an ignoble death. And then Lionsgate swooped in to distribute the flick theatrically, and everything changed. While the first film was not a box office smash, it was a hit.
Beyond that, though, it garnered a passionate fanbase wowed by both the killer action scenes and the world-building. Things would only go up from there, with each subsequent sequel growing larger and expanding the mythology further, while also helping turn Keanu Reeves into a superstar again. In the series,...

And so, another year is in the books, with 2023, the year of Barbenheimer now ending. It was a dramatic one for entertainment, with shelved movies, surprising hits and misses and dual strikes that brought the industry to a standstill for months. Nevertheless, there were plenty of great films, so here’s JoBlo’s official top 10 for the year. Before we start, there are a few honourable mentions to get out of the way. Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One was a surprising box office disappointment, to the extent that the next film is set to drop Dead Reckoning from the title, but it was still an expertly assembled action film with some of the best stuntwork and style of the year. I also thoroughly enjoyed Creed III and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, with both just falling a tad short of making my top 10. At the same time, other films like Bradley Cooper’s Maestro,...

I Come in Peace… You Go in Pieces!
So goes one of the coolest one-liners I have ever heard, and it’s part of one of the most unheralded Christmas action movies ever. Now, Christmas action movies have always been a thing. Something about the juxtaposition of the holidays and ultra-violent action has always been irresistible to Hollywood. In movies like First Blood and To Live and Die in LA, the holiday theme makes the desperately violent scenario all the more grim. At the same time, other classics like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard ultimately have Christmas messages about friendship and family that come through just as strongly as in a straight-up Christmas movie like It’s a Wonderful Life.

John Wick: Chapter 4 became the entry that solidified the franchise as a big moneymaker. And although the ending had left the future open for possible sequels, Keanu Reeves has not been secretive about how much harder it is to keep up with the action and begged for a definite ending for the character. However, despite several spin-offs being released, the studio now smells the money and wants to immediately develop a direct follow-up to Chapter 4 with Reeves in tow. People keep asking if he’s back, and he hasn’t really had an answer, but yeah, the studio is thinking he’s back.
ScreenRant has reported that Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake has stated at a recent earnings call, courtesy of ComicBook.com, that the studio is now including a Chapter 5 in the development of future franchise content. Drake has said, “On the Wick side we got multiple spin-offs and a Wick Five.

Copland was supposed to be Sylvester Stallone’s comeback movie. Despite earning decent box office and generating Sly’s best reviews in decades, it seemed to be the final nail in his coffin as a leading man, and I don’t understand why. Before Copland, Stallone was headlining huge action movies like Daylight and Judge Dredd, and while they underperformed domestically and overseas, they were still big. One would think that Stallone would have been given an old-school action film to revive his career, but all of a sudden, he was slotted into cheap movies, such as the slasher thriller D-tox, which is also called Eye See You. That movie was so bad that it went direct-to-video, which pretty much meant the end of Stallone’s career for half a dozen years until he managed a major comeback with Rocky Balboa. It would get pretty dire for Sly, but Warner Bros...

While it didn’t hit North American shores until a year later, Japanese gamers got their taste of 16-bit power at home with the Sega Mega Drive on this day back in 1988. Once it did arrive in North America, thanks in part to Sega of America’s marketing campaign, and its decision to cater towards a more mature and “cool” audience over Nintendo’s kid friendly approach, the Mega Drive/Genesis for a time had the upper hand in the “console wars” of the 90s. The results of Sega’s efforts? In addition to having superior sports games compared to the Snes, Mega Drive/Genesis fans received their fair share of horror games, which weren’t bound by Nintendo’s often draconian code of censorship.
So, much like with the Snes, here’s a sampling of some of those genre titles that Sega fans can dive into for a trip...

Michael Caine is one of the most decorated actors in cinema history. His dynamic talent has spread across the stage and screen for over seven decades and he has been acknowledged for his prowess through heaps of critical acclaim. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 4 Today, acting legend Sir Michael Caine discussed his upcoming film, "The Great Escaper," along with some shocking (or not) news: it will also be his last film.
As Caine tells it, he already considered himself retired when he received the script and turned it down three times. Reading it eventually won him over. Caine fell so "in love" with the script that he decided it would be a good high note to end his 70+ year career on. Caine said:
"I kept saying I'm gonna retire. Well, I am now because I figured, I've had a picture where I've played the lead, and it's got incredible reviews. The only parts I'm likely to get now are old men, 90-year-old men — well, maybe 85, you know? And I thought, 'Well, I might as well leave with all this. I've got wonderful reviews. What am I gonna do to beat this?...

Sir Michael Caine has announced that he has officially retired from acting, and that his latest film, The Great Escaper, is his last… and, this time, he means it. “I keep saying I’m going to retire,” the 90-year-old said. “Well, I am now.”
The announcement arrives via a new interview with BBC Radio 4, which aired just a week after the debut of The Great Escaper itself. The film stars Caine as Bernard Jordan, a real-life World War II veteran who “escaped” from his nursing home in 2014 to attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day in France. After hitting theaters in the UK on October 6th, Caine’s performance has been praised… which, according to him, impacted his decision to finally ride off into the sunset.

After more than 80 years on the big screen and multiple reports that his time as a star was almost over, British actor Michael Caine has confirmed he’s retiring.
The star of “Zulu,” “Alfie,” “Interstellar,” and so many more beloved films shared the news on BBC Radio 4’s “Best of Today” podcast.
Caine added that at this point, there aren’t many more roles for him to play. He said: “I’ve played the lead and it’s got incredible reviews. What am I going to do to beat this?”
The actor described working on “The Great Escaper” as a “great time” and said that he said, “I thought, you know, why not leave now?...
