As we began talking about editorial content we could publish to celebrate the release of Hail, Caesar!, the latest film from Joel and Ethan Coen, we realized that none of us had the same top five lists, and that it seems unusual for that to be the case. The Coens have had such a rich and varied career that it is impossible to pin them down to one style or one theme or one type of storytelling. Some people love their comedies. Some people love it when they get dark. Some people love the underdogs, the least-liked of their films. But what's clear is that every film they've made has its fans, and even their worst films are beloved by someone. There are few artists like the Coen Brothers, and we were delighted to get lists from each of our special guest contributors this time. The diversity of the replies...

As his dad put it, Robert Ford Wilson has the melody down, but he's still working on the lyrics.
Owen Wilson stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, and shared an adorable video of his son attempting to sing the alphabet. Though he seemed to call out all the letters to the tune of the song, Ford didn't quite sing his ABCs in order.

HBO is loving the concept of Michael Crichtons Westworld as a TV series. The network has officially ordered the star packed series for a full season. The series will star Anthony Hopkins as the main star, Dr. Robert Ford the big boss at the amusement park that features andriod robots. However, these robots go crazy and end up hurting the guest. Most of the big stars will play the robots with room of more than one character. The series will likely hit the airwaves in 2015.
I am glad that the late Michael Crichton is still having success. It is just a shame that he doesn’t get to see this take place. It will be an interesting series, especially to see how they can expand the story as it was written in a movie format. That will take some serious creativity on their end. I suppose that may not be a struggle for HBO,...

We told you about HBO's pilot commitment for a series adaptation of Westworld, a 1973 film written and directed by Michael Crichton, back in August of 2013, but now that "True Blood" is getting set to hit the bricks, things are really picking up steam.
THR reports that Anthony Hopkins (pictured) and Evan Rachel Wood are heading West for HBO and J.J. Abrams. The pair has been tapped to star in the premium cable network's Abrams-produced "Westworld" adaptation, which has been formally picked up to pilot.
The show is being billed as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.

Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood are saddling up for "Westworld." The Oscar-winning "Silence of the Lambs" actor has signed on to star in HBO's TV adaptation of the 1973 sci-fi film, effectively taking on his first (prospective) series regular role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Joining him is "Charlie Countryman" star Evan Rachel Wood, who previously collaborated with the network on both "True Blood" and the 2011 miniseries "Mildred Pierce." Described as a "dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin," the J.J. Abrams-produced series was "inspired by" the original film, which centered on a futuristic theme park that gave wealthy adults the opportunity to live out their Wild West fantasies (or any fantasies, really) with the help of artificially-intelligent robots. Hopkins will star in the pilot as Dr. Robert Ford, the "brilliant, taciturn and complicated creative director, chief programmer and chairman of the board...

Another Oscar winner is coming to HBO: Anthony Hopkins has been cast in the cable drama’s TV reboot of the sci-fi classic Westworld.
The casting will mark the first potential regular TV gig for the acclaimed Silence of the Lambs and Thor actor, and continues the trend of Academy Award winners taking small-screen roles. He will be joined in the project by actress Evan Rachel Wood (Once and Again, True Blood).
No, Hopkins is not playing “the Yul Brynner role.” But the descriptions for both his character and Wood’s shed some insight into the secretive project’s storyline.

Writer, director, producer and actor Casey Affleck ("The Assassination of Jesse James by that Coward Robert Ford," "Gone Baby Gone," "Out of the Furnace") and producer John Powers Middleton ("Oldboy," A&E’s "Bates Motel," "The Lego Movie") are launching a production company called the Untitled Casey Affleck/John Powers Middleton Project. They will create films and television series "spanning a wide variety of genres and budgets." When going through the new eBook releases this week, I ran into the anthology Midnight Symphony: 10 Novellas of Horror & Suspense edited by Robert Swartwood. I read through the contents of this huge book and immediately hit the buy button. It is an absolute steal at $0.99 (or £0.77 in the UK)!
This eBook is much longer than most books or novels, and it is filled to the rim with horror goodness! It is a collection of 10 novellas from some of the top indie names in the business. Kealan Patrick Burke, F. Paul Wilson, Tim Lebbon, Brian James Freeman... Oh heck, here, let me list the contents out for you real quick (with some quick comments by me):

No eulogies. Whether or not you've seen this film before, this is a must-attend event if you're in New York. We're helping promote an event at the Museum of the Moving Image, a revival screening of the western The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, featuring an appearance and Q&A with director Andrew Dominik (of Chopper & Killing Them Softly, too). The event is taking place on Saturday, December 7th at 6Pm, a one-time showing of the little-seen, beautifully-shot (by Roger Deakins!) story of Jesse James & Robert Ford. It's an exquisite film, one of my favorites of 2007, we're happy to support this. If you're interested and want to attend, tickets will be on sale soon. Tickets are $20 public / $12 Museum members and free for Silver Screen members and above. Museum members have an exclusive window to purchase advance tickets. Tickets will go on sale to the public on October 19th.

Struggling through a fraught post-production and eventually given a cursory, half-hearted theatrical release by Warner Bros., Andrew Dominik's epic, lyrical and beautifully tragic "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford" has only gained in critical and cult standing since it first arrived in 2007 (and named one of The Playlist's best movies of that year). The film, featuring some career best work by Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck, is an exploration of the false allure of myth, setting its story around the legendary outlaw Jesse James, whose Robert Ford soon discovers isn't the same man that's written about in newspapers and books. It's the kind of movie that deserves, and needs, to be see on a big screen to fully take in Roger Deakins' breathtaking cinematography (which we recently discussed here), and for those of you in New York City, you'll get your chance. Museum of...
