Rachel Stavis, billed as the “Hollywood Exorcist,” is channeling her creativity for a number of upcoming scripted projects.
Stavis is an author and filmmaker whose day job — as a “non-denominational exorcist on a mission to create global change by eradicating darkness from one person or place at a time,” per her bio – has put her in the employ of studio chiefs, movie stars and global political figures.
Stavis’ work ranges from the personal and therapeutic to paranormal investigations, and content makers are taking notice. Stavis is currently in the casting phase for her feature directorial debut “Da Wee Do Wa,” for which she also wrote the script. The film explores generational trauma suffered by women in the context of body horror. XYZ Films is in the mix to produce the project. “From Dan Erickson, creator of the hit series “Severance”, thanking BloodList in his acceptance speech at the Hca’s for “best series writing”, to having countless writers tell me how much landing on the BloodList has done for their careers,...

It’s an historically lucrative time to be in the horror business, and not just because the 11th installment of “Halloween” has made $128 million at the domestic box office on a reported $10 million budget.
Last year was the genre’s highest earning ever, as titles like New Line’s “It” and Jordan Peele’s groundbreaking “Get Out” raked in cash. Streaming series like Netflix’s “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” have been showing impressive staying power on social media after the initial binge rush.
Naturally, the industry is seeking similar content across mediums to fill their pipelines — and an annual industry survey of the hottest unmade horror projects has just been released.
The Blood List surveyed 71 C-suite level executives in film and television for the “most-liked screenplays and pilots in the horror, thriller, sci-fi and dark-comedy genres,” according to Blood List creator Kailey Marsh, whose...

Exclusive: Every film needs a sales hook. UFO conspiracy thriller The Phoenix Incident has been flying under the radar even as viral seeds have been germinating across the web like sleeper cells of marketing data. The feature debut of veteran gaming director Keith Arem (Call of Duty, Titanfall) was shot quietly last year and inked select foreign distribution deals during November’s Afm. It screens next week for buyers here in La, accompanied by a transmedia viral campaign that Arem hopes will highlight a new kind of digital storytelling.
“The idea is that you will be on your phone leaving the theater, Googling the information to see if it’s real,” Arem told me.
Arem has two decades in video games under his belt as a talent director on the popular Call of Duty, Saints Row, Ghost Recon, Spiderman, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Persona, Prince of Persia, and Rainbow Six franchises.
