The popular team of analysts may not be available on TNT for much longer, as NBC looks poised to steal its NBA package.
Which way is the NBA’s ball set to bounce? Will it carom back to TNT for another decade, or will NBC steal the package of games whose rights are currently owned by Warner Bros. Discovery by making the league an offer it can’t refuse? The latter possibility looks increasingly likely, and if Wbd does lose its NBA rights, one question that many fans will immediately begin to ponder is what will become of the popular “Inside the NBA” team of Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson; arguably the best sports show on television. There are plenty of options available to the group, including the possibility that 2025 is the final time that they appear on TV together.
Key Details: NBC has offered $2.5 billion...

One of ESPN’s most senior executives is leaving the sports giant.
Norby Williamson, a 40-year ESPN veteran who was the head of events and studio production, will leave the company Friday, ESPN president of content Burke Magnus wrote in a memo to staff.
“Almost 40 years ago in 1985, I was so very fortunate to be offered an opportunity at ESPN. Due to the exceptional hard work, creativity and commitment of the people of ESPN, and to a much lesser extent my contributions, I’d like to think we’ve left our great company in a far better place than we found it,” Williamson said in a statement.
Magnus also thanked Williamson for his time with the company and the contributions to its content. A source notes that Magnus took over the top content job at the company a year ago, and that there just wasn’t an alignment on strategy,...

ESPN EVP of Production Norby Williamson, who helped build SportsCenter into a signature franchise but recently had a public clash with Pat McAfee, is departing after nearly 40 years at the network.
Burke Magnus, President of Content, relayed the news to employees in a memo Friday morning. (Read it in full below.) Magnus said the Disney sports division would soon be conducting “a full search for a new senior content executive.” He also saluted Williamson’s “steadfast commitment and attention to detail, Norby has had a lasting impact on the sports fans’ experience.”

Norby Williamson, the ESPN veteran who has managed everything from NFL coverage to “SportsCenter,” is leaving the Disney sports-media giant abruptly just weeks after being called out on camera in a surprise and unprecedented outburst by daytime host Pat McAfee.
The McAfee contretemps is not at the root of Williamson’s departure, according to a person familiar with the matter, but rather disagreements between the executive and the longer-term strategy being devised by Burke Magnus, who was handed oversight of content and news production in March of last year.

Exclusive: WWE is locking in its heavyweight status ahead of WrestleMania.
With Friday Night SmackDown leading the charge, the company has seen some solid audience increases during the first quarter of 2024.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s surely added fuel to the fire, as SmackDown is averaging 892,000 total viewers in the 18-49 demo on Fox during the first quarter of the year, up 15% versus last year.
Further cementing SmackDown as top dog among 18-49 audiences, the February 16 episode drew 985,000 viewers — the most-watched primetime broadcast for that demo the entire week.
As Deadline previously reported though, Johnson made his return to the ring in February, and WWE has seen an uptick in SmackDown viewership all year. In fact, SmackDown has ranked No. 1 among 18-49 audiences across all total day Friday broadcasts for 11 of the first 12 weeks of the quarter.
Meanwhile, Monday Night Raw is up 6% this quarter-to-date compared to last year on...

One of the benefits of hosting any sort of news or discussion program on TV is an authorization to talk. Now some TV journalists and personalities are also being given permission to bite.
NBCUniversal needs to get out the proverbial Bactine after being savaged earlier this week by many of its top news personalities over the hire made by NBC News executives of former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel. McDaniel was, until Wednesday, to have been a prominent political-news analyst weighing in on topics as the 2024 presidential election drew close. But the prospect of paying someone who had openly tried to help former President Donald Trump discredit the results of the 2020 election raised the internal alarms of many NBC News anchors and many of them — including Joe Scarborough, Joy Reid, Rachel Maddow and Nicolle Wallace — took significant time on Monday to push back against the decision, with Maddow spending...

On March 20, lawyers for Shohei Ohtani accused the Dodgers star’s longtime interpreter and close friend of stealing millions of dollars from the athlete to cover bets with an alleged illegal bookmaker under federal investigation.
It’s a remarkable story with many layers. Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: #DIY def. The Creed Brothers The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Despite dominating during their time in Nxt, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa have never had a match at WrestleMania, and this seemingly spurned them to leave it all on the line. Brutus and Julius Creed wowed the WWE Universe, especially when Julius lifted from his knees into a standing vertical suplex, showcasing his raw strength. The Creed Brothers continued their punishing attack, sending Ciampa through the announce table area and leaving Pat McAfee speechless. Julius and Brutus caught their opponents with tandem ankle locks, but Ciampa and Gargano countered into a Sicilian Stretch and Gargano Escape. Gargano scored the pinfall after both teams went back-and-forth with pin attempts.

In the biggest sports rights deal of 2024 so far, ESPN has snagged a six-year extension for the College Football Playoff, a critical deal (valued at a reported $7.8 billion) that will keep ESPN as the home of the playoffs through 2031-2032.
The Cfp will expand this year from four teams to 12 teams, with another expansion to 16 teams possible in 2026. Also beginning in 2026, the national championship game will be broadcast on ABC, in addition to ESPN’s traditional “MegaCast.”
Notably, the deal also “includes expansive rights to simulcast or MegaCast Cfp games across all Walt Disney Company platforms, including Twdc Direct-to-Consumer offerings,” per ESPN. That would presumably include ESPN’s Dtc offering, as well as possibly Hulu and Disney+, should the company choose to do so.
ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro announced the deal at an Axios conference Tuesday.
“From my perspective, a good deal is when both sides are happy. We feel really good about the deal.

ESPN personalities Pat McAfee and Stephen A. Smith got in an on-air spat over a confidential project that they had been working on. The fight persisted on until McAfee called Smith a “motherf**ker.”
The argument was born out of differences concerning a project that Smith is producing (via his own production company) and will ultimately air on ESPN.
According to The NY Post, following the confrontation, McAfee has been banned from appearing on First Take by Smith. McAfee was supposed to have weekly Tuesday appearances during the football season, but after the fight, may not be allowed to participate in the program at all.
There have been rumors that the two have settled their differences amicably off-screen, but there are no updates on McAfee’s screen time appearances yet. He seems to be hopeful of his return in the coming season.

NFL Legend Dan Marino has made a fortune from the sport but he missed a truly great opportunity to add a few bucks to his net worth. In the 1994 hit comedy film, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Marino played a small role as himself alongside Jim Carrey. The film went on to become a major box-office success and Marino’s involvement may have influenced this success. However, Marino took only a flat fee for the role instead of the more lucrative option of a percentage of the gross of the film.

The former Miami Dolphins quarterback even went on to jokingly claim that he built Jim Carrey’s career with the film and took full credit for it. Marino has one of the highest net worth among the NFL Hall of Famers, despite the Dolphins not taking home a single Super Bowl.

Sitting in Pat McAfee’s studio in Indianapolis Feb. 14, NBA commissioner Adam Silver engaged in an extended conversation about the state of streaming sports.
McAfee, whose show is simulcast on ESPN, brought up the recently-announced joint venture between Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery seems like a game-changing development. “We knew nothing about until it got announced,” McAfee said.
“Neither did I,” Silver responded dryly.
Indeed, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the major sports leagues were all caught off guard by the announcement of the joint venture, though executives at the media companies endeavored to reach out and loop them in a few hours before it was revealed. The same is true of the cable and satellite companies that pay to distribute ESPN, TNT, TBS and Fox.
One of those distributors, FuboTV, would even sue to block the Jv from launching.

Depending on whom you ask, Don Lemon is planting his feet firmly in media’s next frontier. Or its last one.
The former CNN star anchor is the latest in a parade of onetime TV-news personnel to dip their toes into the entrepreneurial waters of digital and social media. He announced in early January that he would launch “The Don Lemon Show” on X, part of a bid to build a broader media outlet. “Don is extremely passionate about launching his own media company,” says Oren Rosenbaum, partner and head of audio at UTA, which represented Lemon in his deal with the social-media giant. “His first priority is the show, and as that becomes more and more successful, he will build a business around that and become a platform for other voices.”
Lemon isn’t alone. Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News opinion host, is using X for similar goals.

Netflix is reportedly spending $5 billion for 10 years of WWE programming; the streaming giant might want to avoid fighting the NFL for viewers.
For essentially the whole of its over 30-year reign as one of cable television’s most popular programs, WWE’s flagship show “Monday Night Raw” has lived on Monday nights — but now that sports entertainment's marquee show is moving from cable to Netflix is a move to a different day on the table? In all of Netflix’s press materials announcing the move, the show was only referred to as “Raw,” removing any reference to its traditional air date. By 2018, Will Compton, a 28-year-old backup linebacker on a one-year contract with the Tennessee Titans, knew his playing days were numbered. Contemplating a career after football, he considered going into real estate or coaching but couldn’t muster much enthusiasm for either. Driving home after a game one evening, he called Taylor Lewan, an offensive tackle for the Titans and his closest friend on the team, with whom he’d just done a postgame segment on Titans Radio. The two, who had bonded over their fondness for podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience, had undeniable chemistry on the air, and the experience got them thinking about starting their own podcast. For Lewan, who had just signed a six-year deal with the Titans, it sounded like a fun time. For Compton, it was a go-for-broke career plan. The following year, they launched Bussin’ With the Boys.

New York Jets injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers went on the Pat McAfee Show to deny that he called late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel a pedophile in a previous interview.
Rodgers stated on Tuesday’s show, “I don’t think he’s a P word.”
In an effort to explain that comment, he stated, “I was referring to the fact that if there’s a list and there are names on it, that it’d be the second time a soft-brained, junior college wacko … whatever other things have been said by him and other people in the media — would be right twice. I totally understand how serious an allegation of pedophilia would be … I’m not stupid enough to accuse you of that with zero evidence.”
Last week, Rodgers was on the same show when he not-so-subtly suggested that Kimmel might have ties to the late New York financier and convicted sex trafficker Jeffery Epstein.

One day after Pat McAfee announced that Aaron Rodgers would not return on his sports talk show for the rest of the season, the football star made a surprise appearance to discuss NFL developments including Nick Saban’s retirement and Bill Belichick’s departure from the New England Patriots.
McAfee on Thursday suggested he received backlash for booting the NFL star off of his show. “That was wild, we were getting absolutely killed,” he said. “They were like, ‘You turned your back on Aaron Rodgers!’ Do you know how many things I’ve been through with Aaron Rodgers in our short relationship? I was not pumped to be in the middle of any of that.”
Before Rodgers returned, McAfee wrote in a lengthy post on X Wednesday night, “I never said he’ll never be on the show again. I hope he chooses to still chat with us.”

Aaron Rodgers made a return to The Pat McAfee Show a day after host Pat McAfee said the NFL star had completed his fourth season on the show.
Rodgers made an appearance on the ESPN show to give his take on Bill Belichick moving on from the New England Patriots.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the last human that Bill Belichick talked to on the field as the New England Patriots head coach — Aaron Rodgers,” McAfee said as he introduced the New York Jets quarterback.
As Rodgers appeared on screen, the Super Bowl champ asked if they could see him, with McAfee telling him he looked “fantastic” and “clearer than wherever you usually call us from.” Rodgers said he was “out here in the woods” as he confirmed his “off-season” had started.
“I’ve been so insulated here… the internet is so spotty out here in the woods,” Rodgers said, catching up...

ESPN has been giving one of its newest show hosts a lot of rope despite a years-long policy of keeping talent on a very short leash.
Pat McAfee has generated reams of unwanted publicity for the Disney-backed sports-media giant in recent days, allowing frequent guest Aaron Rodgers to spread misinformation about vaccinations; insulting Norby Williamson, an influential ESPN executive who manages many studio shows and tries to keep a tight rein on them, and accusing him of working to sabotage his show in talks to media outlets; and giving Rodgers room to call out Jimmy Kimmel, the ABC late-night host who is one of the most high-profile employees in the Disney empire.
Interestingly, few of the controversies that have surfaced on McAfee’s show have anything to do with ESPN’s raison d’etre: games and sports. Such a program is “unsustainable,” says Joel Lulla, a former attorney for ABC Sports...

Aaron Rodgers has ended his appearances on The Pat McAfee Show for the season, the show’s host announced on Wednesday’s episode.
“Aaron Rodgers Tuesday Season 4 is done,” McAfee said. “There’s going to be a lot of people that are happy with that — myself included, to be honest.”
He continued, “The way it ended, it got real loud and I’m happy that that is not going to be my [social media] mentions going forward.”
McAfee was referring to the media storm Rodgers’ appearance created after the New York Jets quarterback insinuated Jimmy Kimmel was on the Jeffrey Epstein list of associates.
Rodgers’ claims had Kimmel threatening legal action, which prompted a back-and-forth interaction and gave the show added attention that McAfee didn’t want. The Super Bowl champ made his last appearance on McAfee’s show on Tuesday to explain his claims about Kimmel and the history of their feud.

Jimmy hit back, threatening to sue the football player in response, which Aaron then responded to.

As promised, Aaron Rodgers was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, where he addressed Jimmy Kimmel’s on-air comments from the day prior about their recent tension and called out an ESPN executive’s remarks regarding the situation.
After Kimmel spent the first seven minutes of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday criticizing Rodgers’ remarks from last week about Jeffrey Epstein and questioning the NFL star’s intelligence, the New York Jets quarterback said that the conflict between the pair is connected to differing beliefs about Covid-19. In 2022, Rodgers admitted to misleading the media about his Covid-19 vaccination status after he announced the year prior that he was “immunized” before news later broke that he was not, in fact, vaccinated.
“The history of this — whatever this is between Jimmy and I — this goes back to Covid times,” Rodgers said Tuesday on the program that airs on ESPN.

Jimmy Kimmel returned to late-night after his winter hiatus and addressed his feud with Aaron Rodgers.
The New York Jets quarterback had insinuated Kimmel’s name would appear as an associate of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. On his first show for 2024, the ABC late-night show host said it was “already a crazy year” following the allegations.
Kimmel said in his monologue that when the list came out, “Of course, my name wasn’t on it and isn’t on it and won’t ever be on. I don’t know Jeffrey Epstein. I’ve never met Jeffrey Epstein. I am not on the list. I was not on a plane or an island or anything — ever.”
The comedian reminded audiences that his response to Rodgers’ claims was that if he “wanted to make false and very damaging statements like that, we should do it in court so he could share his proof with a judge.

Pat McAfee Comments on Aaron Rodgers & Jimmy Kimmel Controversy, Apologizes for 'Being a Part of It'
Pat McAfee, host of The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN, is speaking out about what Aaron Rodgers said on his show about Jimmy Kimmel this week.
Aaron went on The Pat McAfee Show this week and claimed that Jimmy‘s name would be uncovered as one of the people mentioned in the Jeffrey Epstein documents.

ESPN sports analyst Pat McAfee apologized Wednesday for quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ prior comments on his show suggesting that comedian Jimmy Kimmel had ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
On Tuesday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers discussed the list of Epstein’s associates that is set to be publicly unsealed by a federal judge later this month. He said that, “There’s a lot of people, including Jimmy Kimmel, really hoping that doesn’t come out” and that, “If that lists comes out, I definitely will be popping some sort of bottle.”
After the episode aired on Tuesday, Kimmel called out Rodgers on X/Twitter and threatened legal action: “Dear Asshole: for the record, I’ve not met, flown with, visited, or had any contact whatsoever with Epstein, nor will you find my name on any ‘list’ other than the clearly-phony nonsense that soft-brained wackos like yourself can’t seem to distinguish from reality.

Pat McAfee hopes that ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers talk things over.
The ESPN host opened his program Wednesday by addressing the feud between Rodgers and Kimmel, which escalated Tuesday when Kimmel suggested that he could take Rodgers to court over a claim — made on McAfee’s show — that Kimmel had some connection to the list of Jeffrey Epstein associates set to be released this month.
McAfee said that after the Rose Bowl game, he and his team were “rolling on two hours of sleep” going into Tuesday’s show, and added that the freewheeling nature of the show is its hallmark.
This time, however, things may have gone a bit too far.

When I reach Roy Wood Jr. by phone, he’s resting in a hotel room in Napa, California, where he’s in town for a corporate gig. The comedian relishes these quiet moments in between jobs, where he’s able to turn his mind off and “not do shit.” He’s been going full bore for the past year, touring the country performing stand-up shows, hosting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, serving as a Daily Show correspondent, and auditioning to be its next host in the wake of Trevor Noah’s sudden departure.

Don’t adjust the tint on your television if you’re watching ESPN’s College GameDay today. Cohost Pat McAfee really is green.
McAfee admitted to throwing up into a trash can during the commercial breaks of today’s show. Food poisoning is being blamed.
The off-camera ralphing was revealed by Kirk Herbstreit after a commercial break. Herbstreit told the audience, “If you would have saw what I just saw…Can I say what happened? He hadn’t been feeling well all morning… and vomit just flew. He got it into a trash can. I looked over my shoulder, ‘Where’s Pat?”‘
McAfee joked that a badly missed field goal was the source of his stomach upset.
I think I ate something spoiled..
As soon as I saw that kid kick that football I was so disgusted that I had to puke...

Vince Vaughn told us in his 1996 film, Swingers, to always double down on 11 when playing blackjack.
Now he’s advanced to sports betting advice, appearing as the celebrity guest Saturday on ESPN’s College Game Day.
Vaughn wore a Notre Dame letterman jacket as he sat on stage alongside Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard
He explained that he was wearing the jacket because of his role in the 1993 sports film classic, Rudy, the story of an undersized lineman who made a play for the ages in Notre Dame football. Vaughn played quarterback Jamie O’Hara in the film, and cited that as his reason when he picked Notre Dame to win over the Ohio State Buckeyes
“The Buckeyes are for real, always. You can never doubt them. That being said, I played for Notre Dame — I threw a pass. If I had half the heart of Rudy, I would...

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce addressed rumors of a new relationship between him and Taylor Swift.
In an interview for The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, Pat McAfee asked Kelce if he cared to “expand upon” the rumors of his potential romance with Swift, as it is “being talked about the whole entire world right now.”
On Wednesday, Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, seemingly confirmed these rumors to 94 Wip in Philadelphia with “I think it’s all 100% true.” He acknowledged that he doesn’t know much about his brother’s love life, but “I think he’s doing great.”
Travis reported that he “threw the ball in her court.”
The NFL star said he told Swift: “I’ve seen you rock the stage at Arrowhead [Stadium]. You might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit.”
