Los Angeles – Saban Films announced today that they have acquired North American rights to Richard Bates Jr.’s horror thriller Tone-Deaf. The film stars Robert Patrick and Amanda Crew, and is produced by Circle of Confusion’s Lawrence Mattis, Brad Mendelsohn and Matt Smith, and Best Medicine Productions’ Brion Hambel and Paul Jensen. Tone-Deaf will make its World Premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.

A rom-com script featuring the former Lizzie Bennet, revived by an unlikely but true Buzzfeed story, and partly financed by Turkey’s tourism board is hoping its good fortune continues to transfer today as it helps launch a new distribution platform delivering 4K-resolution streams through a single click on social-media sites.
Brendan Bradley wrote the script for Non-Transferable several years ago, creating a fairly traditional take on a rom-com with an unlikely “meet cute." The protagonist buys non-refundable tickets for a big overseas trip to surprise her boyfriend on their anniversary. He, however, breaks up with her, leaving the protagonist with a broken heart and non-transferable tickets in someone else’s name. She advertises for another guy with the same name and, well, you can probably guess how the rest unfolds.
Except that seemingly everything else about the film has been anything but traditional. First, that unlikely setup in Bradley...

Epstein previously served as vice-president of international sales and has served at the Santa Monica-based company for more than 10 years.
She arrives in Cannes with a slate that includes sci-fi romance The Summerland Project, action title Showdown In Manila, sci-fi adventure Synkhole, and drug cartel thriller Powder And Gold
“[Epstein’s] new position as head of sales both honours her commitment to our company and recognises her strong track record of success and her professionalism, talent and skills as one of the leading executives in our industry,” said Lightning Entertainment president James Walker.
Epstein was born in Lyon, France, and moved to Los Angeles where, prior to Lightning, she joined Hannibal Pictures and rose to director of international sales and marketing.
