Exclusive: Vertical has secured Na rights to sci-fi thriller Last Sentinel, written by Malachi Smyth and directed by Academy Award-nominated Tanel Toom. The film stars Kate Bosworth (Along for the Ride), Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris), Thomas Kretschmann (Infinity Pool), and Martin McCann (The Informer).
Set in the near future, unchecked and rampant climate change has caused temperatures and sea levels to rise catastrophically. Only two large continents remain, and billions die during the mass migration to these higher lands. Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Iron Sky 2: The Coming Race, a sequel to the cult sci-fi parody that returns director Timo Vuorensola and those Nazis in space that so buzzed the Berlin Film Festival when the original bowed there in 2012.
The new pic stars Lara Rossi, Tom Green, Vladimir Burlakov, Kit Dale and the return of Udo Kier, and will feature the mix of B-movie plot and A-list effects that made the first one work so well. Myriad Pictures is aboard to hande worldwide sales and will screen the film for buyers beginning next week at the Cannes film market. Vertical plans a July 19 day-and-date theatrical and digital release in the U.S.

Italian actor Franco Nero wants to reprise his role as the coffin-dragging gunfighter made famous in Sergio Corbucci's original 1966 spaghetti Western, Django. Django Lives! will be directed by Pandorum's Christian Alvart from a screenplay by legendary writer/director John Sayles (Lone Star, Battle Beyond the Stars). Franco Nero to reprise legendary role as Django.
Christian Alvart will direct from a screenplay by John Sayles and Italian icon Franco Nero will reprise the role that brought him worldwide fame in Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 classic Django.
Myriad will handle international sales and introduce the project to buyers in Cannes next week.
Django Lives! will star Nero as a drifter in California in 1914 who encounters White Supremacists.
“I’m excited and honored to be a part of this great project that will update us on one of the greatest archetype characters of movie history,” Alvart said.
“Having Christian direct Sayles’s powerful screenplay is a dream come true,” Nero, who appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s 2012 western Django Unchained, said. “Even Christian’s third son is named Django. It was meant to be.”
