It’s official: U.S. Senate hopeful Hill Harper will not return to The Good Doctor for Season 7, TVLine has confirmed exclusively.
“Hill Harper feels strongly that there is a crisis in American democracy — too often, government only works for the rich and powerful while the rest of us struggle to find a voice,” Harper’s campaign spokesperson tells TVLine. “Hill is dedicating his efforts full time to fixing that, and he’s running for the U.S. Senate as an active union member to give working people more of a voice in Congress.”

It feels like just yesterday when Shaun Murphy was a first-year medical resident who had to prove that his autism wouldn't interfere with his ability to be a surgeon.
But it's been six years, and as of The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 22, Shaun is now a first-time father and attending physician at St. Bonaventure.
That's right -- The Good Doctor Season 7 is on its way, and we have info to share!
The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 22 ended on a high note, with Shaun holding his baby for the first time and naming him Steven Aaron after his brother and Dr. Glassman -- the latter of whom refused to come in to meet the baby.
That means there's potential for plenty of new-parent drama alongside the usual medical storylines when The Good Doctor continues.

Brandon Larracuente, who plays Dr. Danny Perez on “The Good Doctor,” will not return as a regular on the ABC drama’s Season 7. The news came on Friday as he and Troian Bellisario of “Pretty Little Liars” sign on to Dick Wolf’s police series, “On Call.”
“On Call” is part of Wolf’s overall deal with NBC, which he extended through 2027 earlier this month. It was earlier announced to air on Freevee, before being moved to Amazon Prime.
Perez made his first appearance on “The Good Doctor” in Episode 2 of Season 6 and became a a series regular and a love interest for Bria Samoné Henderson’s Dr. Jordan Allen. His dramatic story line included an opioid addiction and a relapse in the show’s fall finale.
In a promo trailer released for the Season 6 finale, which airs Monday, May 1, Perez is sent flying after being hit by a car in a tunnel.

The revolving door that is The Good Doctor continues to turn.
TV Line is reporting that Brandon Larracuente is stepping away from the medical drama as a series regular.
While Larracuente isn't currently slated to return, the outlet notes that there's a chance he could stop by San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital as a guest star.
If you watch The Good Doctor online, you know several former stars have returned.
The actor first appeared at the beginning of The Good Doctor Season 6 as Dr. Danny Perez.
It's unclear at this stage whether the upcoming season finale will end Danny's storyline or if he will get an off-screen exit between seasons.
The Good Doctor was renewed for Season 7 at ABC earlier this month after another season of solid ratings.
Potential spinoff The Good Lawyer remains in contention for a pickup.

The prognosis is good for The Good Doctor.
ABC announced Wednesday that it had picked up a seventh season of the medical drama.
The Good Doctor Season 6, airing Mondays at 10 p.m., is averaging 6.2 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in the demo with a week of DVR factored in.
While the live and delayed viewing has dipped year-to-year, the series is ABC's #2 most-watched show in total viewers, behind The Rookie.
The series is tied for fourth place in the demo with a week of DVR factored in, so it remains a strong performer for the network.
The renewal announcement didn't clarify the future of The Good Lawyer, a spinoff with Felicity Huffman and Kennedy McMann.
The series got a trial behind as a backdoor pilot earlier this season, which was well-received.
But a potential pickup will come down to ABC's needs for next season.

Brandon Larracuente, who has a recurring role in ABC‘s The Good Doctor, has just become a series regular just ahead of the medical drama series’ landmark 100th episode. The promotion comes only four episodes after his introduction as resident Dr. Danny Perez. Fellow guest star Savannah Welch, who plays fellow first-year Danica Powell, remains a recurring character. Originally introduced in the October 10 episode “Change of Perspective,” Perez is “strikingly handsome with a natural, easy charm” that “leans on his big heart and positive attitude to navigate the challenges of his first year. But Perez’s dazzling smile hides a painful past, including a years-long struggle with opioid addiction. Now clean for five years, his journey of recovery often makes him a better, more compassionate doctor… while also complicating his life at St. Bonaventure, professionally and personally,” as he withstands his affections for fellow resident Jordan Allen (played by Bria Samoné Henderson...

Following last year’s brain bending, psychedelic fantasy thriller Daniel Isn’t Real, writer/director Adam Egypt Mortimer hot-footed it back into production for his follow-up, Archenemy, a dazzlingly delirious part urban crime drama bolstered by cosmic action and funky, interdimensional superhero bedlam.
Teen wannabe crime reporter Hamster (Skylan Brooks) happens upon a haphazard hobo, Max Fist (Joe Manganiello) who claims to be a cosmic warrior from another dimension. After being dispelled to another reality by archenemy Cleo (Amy Seimetz), Fist finds himself homeless and without powers so sunk into a self-destructive coil of booze and drug abuse, until he meets Hamster.
Hamster thinks Fist’s story could land him a full time journalism position, but plans go awry after his drug pushing sister Indigo’s (Zolee Griggs) misgivings land the three of them in trouble with a local gang. Fist then sets out to rescue Indigo from the crime syndicate thus,...

Superhero movies have become so pervasive since the turn of the millennium that they’ve spurred a whole subgenre of films subverting their formulas — primarily low-budget efforts like “Special,” “Super” and “Defendor,” but also major-studio projects “Joker” and “Hancock.” All share an interest in peeling back the mask, exploring the antisocial, delusional-fantasy side of superpowers.
Adam Egypt Mortimer’s third feature “Archenemy” occupies similar terrain, resourcefully using modest means to create a gritty yet stylized comic-book world in which a supposed fallen superhero may really just be some homeless guy with mental issues. However, that colorful surface is more successfully drawn than the characters and complications meant to fill it, leaving this noirish, (mostly) live-action cartoon feeling less like a dissection of superhero origin stories than an underdeveloped prologue to one.
It has its own prologue, marking the first of several sharp animated sequences credited to Sunando, Kevin Finnegan and Danny Perez.

Antibirth is billed as a psychedelic horror film, which is what interested me in seeing it. While the film does have one striking psychedelic scene right in the middle, for the most part Antibirth is more drunk than high.
Antibirth is about a heavy-drinking, whip-it huffing, drugged-out woman, Lou, who mysteriously becomes pregnant, even though she doesn't remember having had sex in the last six months. Of course we know right away that the fact that she doesn't remember having had sex doesn't actually mean that she actually hasn't, but she doesn't seem to know this, and neither do the other characters. Something is living inside her, and it's only the beginning of a visceral journey director Danny Perez takes viewers on in Antibirth, which has been slated for an early 2017 Blu-ray / DVD release from Scream Factory.
From Scream Factory: "We are proud to announce that we have a new IFC Midnight film planned for release on Blu-ray & DVD this Feb.

Exploring your new and revitalized identity in an unfamiliar territory can be a daunting challenge for many people. But for the characters, as well as the cast and crew, of the new horror film, ‘Antibirth,’ that examination is a compelling experience that truly helped define their lives. Danny Perez powerfully made his feature film writing and directorial debuts on the drama, which features actress Natasha Lyonne in a classic return to leading a movie cast. The complex protagonist played by the performer, who also served as a producer on the movie, enthrallingly learns how to overcome her fears in order to finally take control of her life. ‘Antibirth’ follows the [ Read More ]

I…don’t know where to start here. It’s Antibirth! This movie is totally crazy! Let’s just summarize.
Lou (Natasha Lyonne) is a chainsmoking, hard partying — and I mean Hard — lady. The last thing you would expect or want to see for her is a pregnancy, but after a night of black out she soon discovers that’s maybe the case. Her denial is strong, but she keeps getting bigger and it’s the obvious answer. But then strange things begin happening to her body: bizarre dreams involving mascot characters, infected skin, rotting teeth, extremely blistered feet, and an absurdly distended belly that pulsates. Aided by her friend Sadie (Chloe Sevigny) and a mysterious woman named Lorna (Meg Tilly) who wants to help her, they set...

Burnouts, pregnancy and aliens – Antibirth is a twisted concoction of “Wtf” puzzle-piecing drenched in prenatal paranoia. Filmmaker Danny Perez keeps us guessing through second-hand-haziness, as his stoner prophecy plays like a bad trip caught on film. The entire rabbit hole is built on munchie runs and bong hits, but as Perez’s characters stay sufficiently buzzed, a larger story turns into sci-fi weirdness supplied in tablet form. Drugs act as a foreshadowing mechanism in themselves, hinting at far-out conclusions that no rational mind would calmly predict – even with all the flashy lights, neon costumes and experimental narcotics.
All well and good, except for the fact that I was entirely too sober for whatever the hell Antibirth is laying down.
Natasha Lyonne stars as Lou, a strung-out party girl who wakes up with pains and aches after a particularly blurry night. As Lou attempts to recall what nastiness she got herself involved in,...

Both unflinchingly realistic and strangely surreal, the new film Antibirth boldly blazes a path into a genre all its own. With IFC Midnight releasing Antibirth in select theaters and on VOD this Friday, September 2nd, I had the opportunity to catch up with writer/director Danny Perez for our latest Q&A feature to discuss working with Natasha Lyonne and Mark Webber, mixing contrasting elements in settings and tone, and much more.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Danny, and congratulations on Antibirth. It’s definitely a film that will stick with me for a long time to come. Had this story been brewing within you for a while? How long did it take you to write the screenplay?

Here's a bit of wackiness to kick off your weekend: the batshit crazy trailer for Danny Perez's Antibirth.
The movie which debuted at Sundance and recently played at Fantasia, stars Natasha Lyonne (of "Orange is the New Black" fame) as Lou, a hard living party animal who wakes from a particularly great night of partying not feeling too good.
She soon discovers she's pregnant – by her account it's immaculate conception – and believes that the baby is making her crazy.
Along with Lyonne, the movie also stars the great Chloë Sevigny as Lous best friend and roommate Sadie and Meg Tilly.
To call this trailer weird is an understatement. It's downright bonkers. I can't tell if Lou is just high all the time and hallucinating or if she's actu [Continued ...]...

The general advice for pregnant women is to stay clear of cigarettes, recreational drugs, and copious amounts of alcohol. But it’s a little unclear if those guidelines still apply when one is giving birth to an immaculately conceived demon baby. That’s what first time feature director Danny Perez set out to investigate with Antibirth, his trippy pregnancy-themed horror movie that aims to make Rosemary’s Baby look like a walk in the park.
Orange Is The New Black’s Natasha Lyonne plays a grungy party girl who wakes up from a bad trip to discover she’s pregnant. She and her best friend (Chloë Sevigny) try to figure out what’s going on while body horror, “surreal shocks,” and black comedy unfold around them. Antibirth was easily one of the most batshit crazy films that I saw at Sundance this year. The movie stars Natasha Lyonne (American Pie, Orange is the New Black) as a crazy, hard-partying woman who finds herself pregnant. What’s strange about this pregnancy is that she hasn’t had sex in months and her weird condition escalates into complete whacked-out madness! The ending of the film is definitely something you’ll never forget. Here’s the synopsis:

"Yeah I don't think anyone's seen something like this before..." IFC Midnight has released a trailer for the weird Sundance Midnight film Antibirth, a wacky drug-trip-gone-wrong horror-comedy starring Natasha Lyonne and Chloë Sevigny. The twisted pregnancy plot involves a "wild-eyed stoner" waking up after a seriously "wild night of partying with symptoms of a strange illness and recurring visions as she struggles to get a grip on reality." The full cast includes Meg Tilly, Emmanuel Kabongo, Corey Pascall and Mark Webber. There's some totally frickin' wacky, disgusting and completely insane stuff in this trailer, I don't even know what to make of it. But if you're into trippy, crazy, unlike-anything-else horror - give this a shot. Here's the first official trailer for Danny Perez's Antibirth, direct from IFC Midnight's YouTube: Hard-drinking, pill-popping, bong-ripping Lou (Lyonne) and her best friend Sadie (Sevigny) spend their days adrift in a druggy haze.

You may have had some rough nights of partying a little too hard, but they surely don’t compare to what Natasha Lyonne goes through in her latest film. Premiering as part of the Midnight section at Sundance Film Festival this past year, Danny Perez‘s Antibirth finds the actress experiencing immaculate conception that turns quite evil. Ahead of a release next month from IFC Midnight, the first trailer has now arrived.

Pregnancy can be challenging and scary for any young woman, but it’s even more frightening when you don’t know how you got pregnant. In the new body-horror comedy “Antibirth,” hard-partying stoner Lou (Natasha Lyonne) wakes up one morning to discover that she’s pregnant despite not having sex in over a year. Living in a small Michigan town, Lou and her best friend Sadie (Chloë Sevigny) try to discover how this could happen in a drug-addled haze, but when a mysterious stranger (Meg Tilly) raises the possibility of something otherworldly, it throws everyone for a loop. Suddenly, Lou starts to lose a grip on reality as the person (or thing) growing inside her begins to distort her mind. Watch the trailer below, courtesy of EW.

Ugly and occasionally entertaining, the female-led Antibirth is a punk rock horror thriller set in a decaying suburb somewhere in Michigan. Opening in the middle of a hardcore rager, we’re introduced to pals Lou (Natasha Lyonne) and Sadie (Chloe Sevigny), two aging party girls pushing 40 who are living fast in a landscape that offers little else. The film takes this element seriously, even if its surely an ugly one. Lou, a military vet, lives rent free in her dead father’s trailer. To make ends meet she cleans rooms part time at a local budget motel, snorting a few lines of whatever to make it through the day.

Last week at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, writer/director Danny Perez celebrated the world premiere of his wildly surreal horror movie, Antibirth, which co-stars Natasha Lyonne and Chloë Sevigny. Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Perez about what inspired the story of Antibirth, his approach to the material, his experiences collaborating with his cast and more.
What inspired the story for Antibirth? We’ve seen pregnancy horror movies before, but this felt wholly different than anything I’ve ever seen before.
Danny Perez: Thanks, it comes from a couple different sources, but ultimately I was friends with Natasha. I knew I wanted to work with her, so I knew I wanted to write something for her. I wanted to do something with a female lead because narratively and visually I'm more interested in that. I knew that I wanted to subvert a lot of female archetypes, so...

Despite being real-life, decades-long best friends, Natasha Lyonne and Chloë Sevigny had never appeared onscreen together before making director Danny Perez's subversive, pregnancy- and experimental-drug-themed body-horror trip of a feature-film debut, Antibirth, which Lyonne also produced. The movie is a perfect addition to Sundance's "Midnight" section, and features Lyonne and Sevigny as hard-partying best friends in a desolate middle-of-nowhere Michigan town overrun with drug addiction. Lyonne's character Lou blacks out at a warehouse rager, and the next morning, as she's taking her usual five bong hits, she starts feeling a little weird. Like, her titties and her uterus are hurting, but she hasn't got laid in forever, so she can't be pregnant — right? What follows is a trippy mystery filled with body horror and supernatural elements, as Lou's face starts peeling off and her belly starts growing. We eventually learn that the men of the town have taken it...

Written and directed by Danny Perez, the film is a wildly surreal examination of the horrors of pregnancy, and the duo discussed what attracted them to the project, how their real-life friendship spilled over into the project and more.
Thanks for speaking with me today, ladies. What I really dug about Antibirth is the fact that it starts out going one way and then in the third act it goes somewhere totally different than I was expecting. It’s very much the type of movie you'd expect to see at Sundance.

First time director Danny Perez has come up with an entertaining grossout riff on Cronenberg-style body horror, featuring a great performance from Lyonne
What if the Dude from The Big Lebowski somehow ended up in David Cronenberg’s The Brood? Well, that’s not exactly what the oddball Sundance midnight film Antibirth is like, but that’s what my summary would be if I was ripping epic bong hits on my scuzzy couch and describing this “epically fucked-up thing” I just saw.
Believe me, this is hardly my usual state of affairs. However, Danny Perez’ first feature goes out of its way to be atypical. Natasha Lyonne, bringing richness to an extremely difficult role, is Lou; a grouchy, swearing, pill-gobbling boozer who still manages, somehow, to be adorable. Antibirth is not set in the La party scene, but in nowheresville Michigan, cold and ugly, where you need to bum a...

My second trip to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah promises to be much colder, though no less exciting than last year’s unseasonably-warm introduction. You could barely hear yourself think over the constant roar of snow cannons trying to preserve the anemic ski slopes. This year finds a return to freezing temperatures and the emergence of female directors. Over 40 feature films are helmed by women.
My personal approach to this year’s festival will be to focus on diversity. Rather than plunging into one particular Section, I will sample generously from each, with no regard to the obscurity of the title. Last year’s Next Section, for example, produce three of my favorite films of 2015, including H., James White, and Tangerine.
