Sneak Peek new images of actress Margot Robbie ("Birds of Prey") in the May 2019 issue of "Elle" (Australia) magazine, supporting the Chanel fashion line, photographed by Liz Collins:
"'Everything happens for a reason' is something that we have to tell ourselves all the time," said Robbie, "because it's good to have the idea that something good is around the corner.
"And as much as I'd only like to concentrate on the creative side of acting, the whole business in general is just that - a business - and you have to do your homework if you want to be successful.
"There's nothing I dislike more than being in a photo shoot where they say, 'Be yourself.' That's not why I became an actress.
"That's what I find so funny: that you become an actor, and all of a sudden, everyone wants to know about you...

In order to dispel the notion that she simply “waltzes” into work every morning, one mother took to Facebook to detail the three-hour routine she goes through every weekday to get her four children ready for school before she starts her day job.
Like most parents of young kids, Liz Petrone, of Syracuse, New York, has a hectic schedule. She wakes up as early as 6 a.m. to get her four children ready for their day, and according to her fitness watch, she usually takes more than two miles worth of steps by the time she sits down at the office.

Five years ago this weekend Tim Burton’s updating of Dark Shadows, the gothic/horror-themed soap opera which ran from 1966 to 1971 on ABC and was a seminal influence on a generation of budding horror fans (including Burton), was released on American movie screens, one weekend after Marvel’s The Avengers was still dictating the imaginations (and the wallets) of moviegoers everywhere. Given Burton’s track record with horror comedies (Beetlejuice being the primary example) and collaborations with Johnny Depp (Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands), a surprisingly low number of ticket-buyers seemed ultimately to care—the movie, which cost $150 million to make, and undoubtedly a hefty chunk of change more than that to market, would earn back only slightly more than half of that in the United States, though its final take globally came in at around $235 million. There were a few takers among critics, notably...

As she moves into what most actresses would consider the twilight of their career, photos from the set of new HBO film Wizard of Lies confirm that Michelle Pfeiffer continues to defy the laws of aging. The 57-year-old has been pictured in New York filming a solo scene as Ruth Madoff, wife of notorious Wall Street fraudster Bernard Madoff, and she looks ready to bring her particular brand of sexy to her starring role opposite Robert De Niro.
In a career spanning a whopping 35 years, Pfeiffer has taken on a variety of diverse roles across a number of different genres, receiving Oscar nominations for her efforts on three occasions. Her work today is a far cry from her initial career choice, however. After graduating from high school in 1976 Pfeiffer began training as a stenographer, though a court of law was never a suitable setting for such a bright and beautiful young woman.

The Senate VFX was awarded a total of 186 shots for Dark Shadows, which covered a broad range of work on some major sequences including the Collinwood Manor Fire, Angel Bay Cannery Seq, Construction Site Attack and a large selection of Collinwood manor exterior shots. The Senate was tasked with completing full CG environments, set extensions, green screen comps and ghost FX work, which, coupled with meeting the demands of a visionary director, made Dark Shadows a challenging yet hugely rewarding project to be part of. Dark Shadows was directed by Tim Burton and stars: Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard, Bella Heathcote as Victoria Winters, Jackie Earle Haley as Willie Loomis, Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman, Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Jonny Lee Miller as Roger Collins, Chloe Grace Moretz as Carolyn Stoddard, Gulliver McGrath as David Collins, and Christopher Lee as Silas Clarney.

Whenever Tim Burton and Johnny Depp get together, you get the feeling that these two cinema giants are preparing to put a new stamp on the word “character”. Depp loves to play roles that put him at odds with the world around him. Whether he’s the gentle recluse with scissors for hands in Edward Scissorhands or the delusional director in Ed Wood, Depp transforms himself into wholly unique and utterly engrossing characters under Burton’s direction.
This year’s Dark Shadows was no different. The film, adapted from the 1966-1971 TV series created by Dan Curtis, features Depp as Barnabas Collins. Barnabas is an unwilling vampire with an overwhelming love for family. After being trapped in a coffin for 200 years, Barnabas finds himself in a new world where he mistakes cars for Lucifer and the McDonalds’ logo for a demon sign. He’s also got an appetite for blood.

In August 1981, at the age of twelve, I viewed my very first horror film, Dan Curtis' 1976 theatrical outing Burnt Offerings, based upon the 1973 novel of the same name by Robert Marasco. I was immediately impressed with the film's spooky quality and the performances by Oliver Reed, Karen Black, Bette Davis, and Burgess Meredith. One area that stood out most was the chillingly icy score by Robert Cobert. I was eager to discover other works directed by Mr. Curtis and it would be nearly 30 years before I would finally see episodes of what is arguably his most popular production, the soap opera/thriller Dark Shadows. Running for nearly five years on ABC-tv from 1966 to 1971 and consisting of 1,225 episodes in total (some of which were in black and white), Dark Shadows is an enjoyably spooky production that was shot on videotape. We’ve had Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter interviews over the past couple of days and now it’s time to hear from Michelle Pfeiffer and Chloe Moretz on their thoughts of the movie. Pfeiffer plays Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and admits to James Kleinmann who conducted the interview that she was ‘obsessed’ with the TV show growing up. We also find out when Chloe found out about the show and how she got involved and whether she knew anything about it before taking on the part as Carolyn Stoddard, daughter of Michelle’s character.

After a disappointing domestic take of $28.8 million, Dark Shadows has opened to a slightly more impressive $36.7 million overseas from 43 territories reveals The Hollywood Reporter. This isn't too bad, but far from what Warner Bros. were hoping for (especially with a rumoured budget of $150 million). However, it still opened at #1 in many countries and still finished at #2 at the worldwide box office. Marvel's The Avengers made a whopping $95.4 million from 54 territories, totally eclipsing the latest Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaboration as it sped to a record breaking $1 billion in just 19 days. Dark Shadows is expected to finish its first domestic weekend with $27-28m — or less than the amount ($29.1m) The Avengers earned on its second Friday out. [See also The Avengers Movie to Break Another box-office Record?] Dark Shadows distributor Warner Bros. had been expecting at the very least a $35m opening weekend. Comparing the box-office performance of Dark Shadows to those of, say, Jennifer Lawrence’s eagerly awaited The Hunger Games or Joss Whedon’s superhero ensemble The Avengers would be not only cruel but downright unfair. Although the previous Burton / Depp collaboration, Alice in Wonderland, was a humongous hit, opening with $116 million in March 2010, Burton’s campy version of the late ’60s soap opera Dark Shadows has a different sort of appeal.

Box Office Mojo reports that Dark Shadows made $550,000 from midnight showings, putting it on course for an opening weekend of $35 - $40 million. Marvel's The Avengers (it's main competition) is expected to reach anywhere between $75 million and $100 million domestically. The above projections may in fact be a little high as John Carter and Think Like a Man made a similar amount during midnight showings and ended up grossing less than $35 million in total. However, the Tim Burton helmed film is also opening internationally this weekend (where The Avengers has already been on release for over two weeks) and should perform fairly well. Chicago – Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” is one of the most inconsistent and frustrating major films in a long time. There are elements here and there that work but Burton and writer Seth Grahame-Smith seem incapable of figuring out how to wrangle them into a coherent, successful film. I like Johnny Depp and Eva Green’s performances and Colleen Atwood’s costumes are typically fantastic but rarely has a film more aptly proven the “more is less” theory – part comedy, part horror, part ‘70s spoof, part soap opera. And yet none of the genres in this mash-up are the least bit successful.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
Depp plays the legendary Barnabas Collins, an eighteenth century son of a tycoon big enough that the town of Collinsport is named after him. Collins falls for the lovely Josette (stunning newcomer Bella Heathcote) but this infuriates the witch Angelique Bouchard (Green), who happens to be in love with the mysterious Barney.

finally hit theaters Friday (May 11), and let me tell you, it's a doozy. There's a lot to admire about Tim Burton's reimagined "Shadows" (and there are some problems as well), but the question that has lingered with me most since seeing the film is who exactly Tim Burton made it for.
I'm not sure it was "Shadows" purists, those who ran home from school to soak up the strange, dark and wonderful late-'60s soap opera and who still have a strong connection to the style and feel of the original. It's probably not for fans of Burton and Johnny Depp's earlier collaborations either, even though the trailers and TV spots sell it like it's supposed to be.

Dark Shadows is a strange breed of film. This adaptation of the cult soap opera show is not as stylishly bizarre as one might expect. Quite the opposite, in fact, with director Tim Burton continuing to his descent into more of a brand and less of a fresh and hungry filmmaker. What makes this out-of-place summer film odd is both how glaring its problems are and how entertaining the film remains despite these flaws.
When we first come upon Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) in the 17th Century, he is wealthy, beloved and madly in love with his bride-to-be, Josette duPres (Bella Heathcote). He has it all, until an evil and jealous witch, Angelique (Eva Green), takes it all from him. Barnabas’s punishment for not loving Angelique is pretty hefty: the death of his parents, the loss of his love, transformation into a vampire and a coffin for nearly 200 years.

The history of cinema has had many long-running actor/director partnerships. What first springs to my mind is the long collaboration between actor John Wayne and director John Ford, which has inspired several film books and documentaries. More recently we’ve had the Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro team-ups ( although Leonardo DiCaprio may just catch up to Mr. D ). And now we have the eighth film that actor Johnny Depp has done with director Tim Burton since they first paired all the way back in 1990 for Edward Scissorhands ( Wow! ). After films based on children’s books, a low-budget filmmaker’s life, and a Broadway musical what have the duo decided to tackle now? Why, it’s a classic cult TV show from the late 1960′s : Dark Shadows. What’s their take on this supernatural soap opera?.

The first time I ever saw Michelle Pfeiffer on a film set, it was when she was shooting "Batman Returns." It's fitting that we'd finally sit down for a formal interview for her first work with Tim Burton since then, as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the head of the Collins family, desperately clinging to whatever faded glory and dignity they once had. I was running late to the press day thanks to traffic, and I was getting phone calls from Anne, the Warner publicist, letting me know that I was going to be the last person sitting down with Pfeiffer for the...

If you are to believe the marketing campaign behind .Dark Shadows,. you would be led into thinking that the film is campy in the grand tradition of .The Addams Family.. But that.s not the case. .Dark Shadows,. while it has some semblance of camp, is not silly and treats its supernatural plotline with equal parts fun and thrills.
Based on the ABC television show from the 1960s created by Dan Curtis, the film version is an old-school gothic thriller with a twist. And no one can effectively mix gothic and camp together better than director Tim Burton and his muse, Johnny Depp.
Depp, who also produces the movie, stars as Barnabas Collins, a wealthy playboy in Collinsport, Maine and the master of Collinwood Manor. He breaks the heart of a witch, Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green), who turns him into a vampire and buries him alive. The year is 1760.

The upcoming Dark Shadows film introduces a new generation of fans to the popular Gothic TV series and also marks the 8th collaboration between actor Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton and their 5th adaptation of popular material together.
And while that's definitely impressive, there hasn't been nearly that kind of fanfare surrounding the fact that Dark Shadows is also the 2nd collaboration between Burton and actress Michelle Pfeiffer, who first teamed up 20 years ago on 1992's Batman Returns.
During the recent press conference for the latest from Burton, both the director and Ms. Pfeiffer discussed why her role as family matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard was a dream come true for the actress and weighed in (sort of) on the latest Catwoman to be hitting the big screen later this year, Anne Hathaway.

“Dark Shadows” is not the worst movie that Tim Burton has ever made, but that’s only because there’s nothing worse than “Alice in Wonderland.” A desperate jumble of ideas in search of deeper substance, much less focus, Burton’s latest collaboration with actor Johnny Depp is the latest, and perhaps greatest, proof that yet exists for the director: he's a hell of a production designer. Given the film’s incredible lack of cohesion – or follow-through – it feels like the resigned end result of a studio’s best efforts to whittle an unwieldly mess into something manageable, but far too many of its shortcomings remain exposed for it to play as anything other than a showcase for the star and filmmaker’s laziness, hubris, or both.

Oddball director Tim Burton continues his association with mancrush Johnny Depp in "Dark Shadows," their eighth collaboration together.
Based on the late-'60s TV soap opera of the same name, the story follows 200-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins (Depp) as he awakens in the 1970s to find his family on the verge of ruin. This campy take on the cult series should be ghoulish fun in an "Addams Family" vein.
1. Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter) sees the perks of being a vampire's personal physician.
2. It's weird that the new Freddy Krueger, Jackie Earle Haley, would be intimidated by someone with such short claws.
3. When the guy in the mantel painting comes to life, ever think it might be You who's stoned?
4. Michelle Pfeiffer's Elizabeth Collins Stoddard is one of those backstabber types.
5. When it comes to business, Angelique (Eva Green) prefers "inside the box" thinking.
6. The Eagles had nothing on this witchy woman.

Much has been made of the fact that the upcoming adaptation of Dark Shadows will be the eighth collaboration between actor Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton, but the movie is also the second teaming of Burton and actress Michelle Pfeiffer. It's been 20 years since the pair worked together on 1992's Batman Returns, but her role as family matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard was a dream come true for the actress, a "diehard follower" of the original, late 1960s-early 70s Gothic soap opera that is the basis of the movie.
I was obsessed. It was the first vampire show ever on television. My mother probably assumed, given that it was on in the afternoon, it was safe for me to be watching, but I always felt like I was somehow breaking the rules because it was quite terrifying and sexy, too, especially for that time.

Even immortal vampire Barnabas Collins himself would find it a Herculean task to wade through all 1,225 episodes of the original "Dark Shadows" TV series. To put it in perspective, a new complete coffin-shaped DVD box set boasts a runtime of 30,000 hours, and that's without bathroom breaks.

Johnny Depp graces the cover of the May issue of Entertainment Weekly for his new film Dark Shadows. His face is caked in white make-up, so without knowing anything else, you'd know it's a Tim Burton film. Joking aside, I'm actually really excited about this one. All the trailers and clips we'vce seen so far have been incredibly funny. Granted it's still a remake, but it looks like it's got the old Burton style of humor we used to love. I'll always enjoy his stuff, but after Big Fish (my favorite of his films), I haven't been wowed by him. There are close to 30 stills from the film, and there are a handful of photos from Burton on the set as well. Check out the pics and let us know if you think this is gonna bring you back to Burton or if it looks like just another remake from the Burton factory.

Since learning that Alice Cooper will have a cameo in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, we've been a bit curious as to how he'll fit in with the rest of the tale, and now we have some words from the man himself about it.
In a recent interview with EW, in which the rock legend discusses the part along with several of the other films in which he's appeared, Cooper dishes on his first meeting with Burton and explains how Alice comes to find himself in Collinwood.
“We [Cooper and Burton] had dinner one night in London, and we both knew every point of reference,” Cooper recalls. “If he would say ‘Suspiria,’ I would say ‘Dario Argento.’ I see the humor in horror as much as Tim or Johnny does so we really do fit together.”
He continues, “Barnabas Collins wakes up, comes back to life, comes back to Collinwood, where it’s now 300 years later,...

It may be hard to believe for those who obsessively watched the Dark Shadows TV series in the late 1960s/early '70s, but there were some that missed the gothic soap opera starring the late Jonathan Frid as the vampire Barnabas Collins. With director Tim Burton's big-screen adaptation set to open in less than two weeks, audiences unaware of the series may start to think of Dark Shadows as the "Johnny Depp vampire movie."

Michelle Pfeiffer was so desperate to star in the big screen remake of her favourite show Dark Shadows she begged director Tim Burton for a part.
The actress was a huge fan of the cult 1960s TV series growing up, and when she heard her Batman Returns director was overseeing the remake she took matters into her own hands and made a grovelling phone call.
But Pfeiffer was forced to wait for a year before finally getting the go-ahead to play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the matriarch of a vampire family.
She tells Empire magazine, "I was really uncomfortable doing it and I don't think I would have done it had I not known him. I was working with a mutual friend of ours who kept encouraging me to do it.
"It just seemed a bit like it was meant to be. Just a few months before that I was in the car with my husband and we were talking about all the old television series that they were now making into movies and I said, 'God, someone should make Dark Shadows'. Then a short while later I read that Tim was going to make it with Johnny Depp.
"I didn't do anything at first. Eventually I worked up the courage to call him and was very apologetic. I didn't want him to feel obligated but I told him I was a huge fan and I would love to do it if he was making it... He didn't know what it would be and whether there would be anything for me. I think actually a year went by and I didn't think it would ever happen. But then it did."...
