James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool” beat Bruce Springsteen and Beyonce to win the Emmy for pre-recorded variety special at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys, which were handed out on Saturday night in downtown Los Angeles.
“Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons'” won the award for live variety special, making the 97-year-old Lear the oldest winner in Emmy history.
In a ceremony devoted largely to nonfiction and reality television, the big winner was “Free Solo,” the NatGeo rock-climbing documentary that won an Oscar in February but also qualified for the Emmys. The film by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin won seven awards, taking home Emmys for its directing, cinematography, sound mixing, sound editing, picture editing, musical score and creative achievement in interactive media.

The Primetime Emmy telecast will take place on Sunday night, September 22, but die-hard Emmy connoisseurs know most of the awards are handed out the weekend before. Scroll down for the complete list of nominees and winners on Saturday night.
Don’t look for a “Game of Thrones” stampede to start here. Saturday’s awards focused on achievements like Best Animated Program, Best Documentary Series and Special, and Best Structured and Unstructured Reality Program, to name a few. These races are where RuPaul Charles (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”) might have taken home a fourth Best Reality Host award to tie “Survivor” emcee Jeff Probst for the most ever.

Netflix is taking the early lead at this year’s Emmys race, with six wins, thanks to the Television Academy’s juried award winners for animation, choreography, interactive programming and motion design, which were announced on Friday.
The outstanding individual achievement in animation category, a “juried” prize that means several, one or no winners could be named, wound up with eight honorees this year: Five from Netflix and three from YouTube.
Also landing its first-ever Emmy was Twitch, the live streaming platform popular in the gaming community and owned by Amazon. Twitch landed an Emmy for outstanding innovation in interactive media, for “Artificial.”
The CW, which is often snubbed by the Academy in general nominations, is the first linear network out the gate with an Emmy: “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” won the first-ever juried prize for outstanding choreography for scripted programming. Choreographer Kathryn Burns won the award, making it her second Emmy.

If you've been suffering from the drop in Ryan Gosling-related internet chum since the promotional tours for his movie trinity ended, today's your lucky day! Rounding the net is a beautiful one-minute version of "Drive" by animators Tom Haugomat and Bruno Mangyoku. It's a pretty strict homage to Nicolas Winding Refn's bloody neo-noir drama starring the 'Sling, and we gotta say, that hammer/nail scene may actually be more disturbing in cartoon form.

The question isn’t wether or not Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive will make Sound On Sight’s list of best films of 2011. Instead we should be asking if it will be at the number one spot, and I have a funny feeling that top spot will either go to Drive or Shame. Only time will tell. We are still awaiting the votes from various members of our staff but our list should be up between Christmas and New Years. In the meantime, I highly recommend watching this incredible animated video inspired from the film. Created by Tom Haugomat & Bruno Mangyoku, the video re-creates some of the films most iconic moments, and it’s pretty amazing. Enjoy!

I consider Drive one of the best underrated movies of the year that everyone should check out if they haven't. It's the slowest of slow burns, but a crime thriller that you just don't see these days, and an expertly made film all around. It's already spawned a devoted fanbase, and two creative souls have decided to see what it might look like if Drive was animated. Tom Haugomat & Bruno Mangyoku made the video below, and after it's over, you'll wish it was longer than a minute....

Some Heroes Are Real. Thanks to a tip from Bleeding Cool, we found this rather awesome animated tribute to Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive, starring Ryan Gosling as the Driver. It was created by Bruno et Tom on Vimeo, aka Tom Haugomat & Bruno Mangyoku, and is a quick 60-sec recap of some of the best moments. It's just badass. I was waiting for this happen, when I first saw Drive in Cannes I knew it would have an amazing cult appeal, and was waiting for it to be released, so we could finally see awesome art and tributes like this that have been pouring in ever since. If you loved Drive as much as us, then you've got to see this! Drive is directed by Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn, of the Pusher trilogy, Bronson and Valhalla Rising previously. The screenplay was written by Hossein Amini (The Four Feathers, Killshot,...
