Danny Dyer has spoken out about facing classist bias throughout his time as a public figure.
The actor, who left his role on EastEnders at the end of 2022, referred to people mocking his choice to name his daughter, former Love Island star Dani Dyer, after him.
In the interview with The Times, the example of Nigella Lawson’s name being derived from her father, baron and former Tory politician Nigel Lawson, was raised as a similar choice that has not drawn as much critique.
When asked whether the difference in how people perceive this tribute is an example of class bias, Dyer agreed, replying: “I think there is classism.
“As soon as I open my mouth I’m judged as thick and poor and not articulate. I noticed that early doors, but it hasn’t really bothered me.”
Dyer grew up on a council estate in east London’s Custom House neighbourhood.

The England soccer team’s wives and girlfriends could be heading to Netflix. It’s understood the streamer is in early stage discussions with All3Media-owned Optomen TV over a reality series that will shoot during the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
According to The Sun, which first reported the news, Optomen has approached several of England soccer stars’ partner — who are often referred to as ‘Wags’ (Wives and Girlfriends) in the British press — about appearing in the show.
The series will follow the women during England’s stay in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in November and December, filming their everyday lives.
Those reportedly approached include Love Island winner Dani Dyer, who dates attacker Jarrod Bowen, Manchester City winger Jack Grealish’s girlfriend Sasha Attwood and Anoushka Santos, wife of defender Luke Shaw. The Sun claims “very substantial fees” have been offered.

A controversial episode of Celebrity Big Brother was the most complained about British show of the decade, while Love Island, The X Factor and ITV daytime show Loose Women also make the list from regulator Ofcom.
More than 25,000 people complained about an episode of last year’s Celebrity Big Brother on Viacom’s Channel 5. The complaints were centered around an incident where former Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett alleged assault by fellow housemate Ryan Thomas, who starred in Coronation Street.
The second most complained about show of the decade was an episode of daytime talk show Loose Women from 2018. The episode in question featured an argument between presenters Kim Woodburn and Coleen Nolan, with the majority of complaints arguing that there was bullying on the ITV show.
Elsewhere, Love Island made the list at number eight. The episode, from 2018, featured contestant Dani Dyer (left), daughter of British acting legend Danny Dyer,...

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer have called it quits. The winners of season four of Love Island were among the few couples to survive in the outside world, but Jack tells his fans, "sometimes things aren't meant to be." In a lengthy note on Instagram, Jack is sharing that he and Dani have chosen to go their separate ways. "There is no easy way to say this and it isn't going to be an easy time but me and Dani are not in a relationship anymore," the former pen salesman explains. "We will always care a lot for each other and have love for each other and I mean that from the bottom of my heart and I wish her nothing but...

EastEnders actor will share his thoughts on future of UK and reflect on friendship with Harold Pinter
Danny Dyer will present Channel 4’s Alternative Christmas Message this year and will use the appearance to share his wisdom on relationships, his considered views on the future of the UK, and to reflect on his friendship with the late playwright Harold Pinter.
His speech – scheduled to air against the Queen’s message at 3pm on Christmas Day – will cap off a year in which the Brexit-voting actor was repeatedly in the headlines after calling former prime minister David Cameron a “twat” on national television and celebrating his daughter Dani Dyer winning Celebrity Love Island.

All I can say is I'm still 22 trying to get my s--t together and grow into a woman but doing it in the public eye is sometimes hard and scary but arguments are arguments and I love him," she wrote with a picture of Jack. She may be better known for her recent stint on Love Island and being the offspring of cockney wide-boy Danny Dyer, but Dani is also an actress and her next feature project comes in the form of psychological thriller Heckle.
Heckle tells the tale of a stand-up comedian’s encounter with an obsessed audience member that takes a spine-chilling turn.
Directed by Emmy-nominated Martyn Pick, the cast also includes music icon Toyah Wilcox, Hellraiser‘s Nicholas Vince, Facebook sensation Stuggy and Clark Gable III (grandson of the Gone With the Wind star).
Before going into the Love Island villa, Dyer said:
“I had such fun filming Heckle! It was an amazing project to be a part of, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Dyer is set to follow in her father’s footsteps towards low-budget British film stardom. But she should heed the warnings of Leona Lewis and Jedward …
O31 won’t be the first film Dani Dyer has appeared in – she has previously been seen in fare like Age of Kill, We Still Kill the Old Way and Bonded by Blood 2 – but it will be the first film she’ll make as a newly minted Love Island star.
By the time O31 comes out, she will be legitimately famous. Or at least, as legitimately famous as an ITV2 reality show contestant can be once the afterglow of Love Island has faded. Will anybody watch it? That’s harder to say. Dyer will play a woman who realises her brother killed her mum. According to its writer, O31 deals with: “race, politics, religion, homosexuality and how these are seen in society.” It...

British reality format Love Island scored a peak audience of 3.4m viewers on ITV2 as the digital broadcaster cleaned up against its bigger rivals. The series, which follows a group of singletons including Danny Dyer’s daughter Dani Dyer who must couple up in a Majorcan villa, averaged 2.9m viewers across its 90-minute episode, more than double the 1.3m that tuned in to last year’s opener. Some 52% of its audience was aged between 16-34, a massive boon for the commercial broadcaster. The show helped the network beat major rivals including BBC One, which aired doc Suffragettes With Lucy Worsley in the timeslot, as well as The Queen’s Coronation In Colour on parent channel ITV, Versailles on BBC Two and C4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody. ITV bosses will hope that the increasing success of the format, a relative rarity in UK non-scripted formats, will help it sell the format into the U.

“We have assembled a fantastic cast to do justice to Simon’s script: a fast-paced page-turner, which feels much more like an American picture than your standard British film,” said Jones.
The film is being produced by indie Richwater Films along with Anchor Bay UK. Jones will produce the film, alongside Luke Fairbrass and Richwater’s Jonathan Sothcott.

“They don’t write them like this any more, they really don’t” says a grinning Ian Ogilvy, sitting back casually in his dressing room on the set of Sacha Bennett’s dark crime thriller We Still Kill the Old Way. The actor, now in his 70s, once starred alongside the likes of Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis in Death Becomes Her, and Christopher Plummer and Orson Welles in Waterloo – yet the talented performer admits that work tends to dry up, in what can be a shrewd and unforgiving business.
“Men and women of my age don’t work that much any more, and in Hollywood, we work even less,” he said. “So I’ve done other things – I’ve been writing books, plays, I teach, I direct – I’ve found alternative ways of making a living. Which was lucky, because the business dries up for you. If you rely on acting at my age,...

17 year old Dani Dyer, daughter of actor Danny Dyer, has landed her first lead role in a British gangster movie called We Still Kill The Old Way.
Dani (represented by Sainou) previously featured in British crime drama, Vendetta alongside her father Danny (currently playing Mick Carter in Eastenders).
In We Still Kill The Old Way, described as "a blood-spattered urban revenge movie", Dani will play Lauren, a young girl who is rescued from an attempted assault by a vicious postcode gang by retired gangster Charlie Archer.
Producer Jonathan Sothcott said: "Having known Dani since she was a kid I have seen her grow into a remarkable young actress. She has a very natural, honest quality and really impressed us on Vendetta. I have no doubt she has what it takes to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a bona fide film star and I’m really excited to...

Find out more about Danny Dyer's relationship with the Nobel laureate playwright, plus what he really thinks about Zoo magazine and the true, Dyer-approved, definition of 'slag'
Hi Danny, the press release for your new film, Vendetta, calls it "a career best" for you. Is it a "career best" (1)?
It is. I felt like I had a lot to prove, I'd had so many negative reactions to my recent films and people constantly mocking me. I was just like: "Fuck you – I'm an actor. I'm a serious actor."
Do you feel that your personal life overshadowed your acting?
For some people, yeah. It's like, Ok, you need to re-evaluate things, maybe you've become more of a personality, a celebrity than being an actor. There are some actors out there that are brilliant at just being the actor and not giving the interview, mainly because they're boring as shit and...
