Its official – geek is in. Never before in modern times have geeks, nerds and boffins enjoyed such a level of popularity. With our increasing reliance on technology and the Internet, jocks and muscle men are being shoved aside in favour of an altogether different kind of leading man – the geek. So without further ado, here is my top 10 list of geeks on film (make a note, there’s no Peter Parker on this list, but he would’ve been my number 11):
#10 Milo Hoffman (Antitrust)
Peter Howitt’s 2001 computer-nerd film, Antitrust is fantastically geeky. I believe the film was unfairly criticised upon release but given its dense layers of technical jargon it’s understandable that few related to the message it tried to convey.
Regardless, Ryan Philippe’s Milo Hoffman is the first nerd to enter our list. Computer programmer, open-source pioneer and all-round geeky boy, Hoffman is the latest...

Patrick Swayze and his wife Lisa used to own Arabian horses; they even competed in shows. Now the Arabian Horse Foundation has started a Patrick Swayze scholarship fund.
The Patrick Swayze scholarship will be given out annually to a youth involved with Arabian horses who also wants a career in performing arts. The fund was started with a donation from Iron Horse Farms in Canton, Ga.
President of the foundation Larry Kinneer told the Associated Press that the scholarship honors the Swayzes' "love of the Arabian breed and contributions over the years to Aha youth programs."
Wouldn't have been our first guess for an organization to start a Patrick Swayze scholarship. In fact, we would've guessed some sort of Johnny Castle, Bodhi or even a Jim Cunningham scholarship before we would've guessed "Arabian horses." Nevertheless, good for them.

Ja from Mnpp here, doing the 2001 thing, briefly noting a flick from the year that left a bit of an impression on lil' ol' me. Yes, Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko. I can and have - seriously I have, click here to see - list a bunch of reasons why I believe this movie's too cool for school, but it really, the essence, it all boils down you see to that delightful line uttered there above. Sometimes Beth Grant doubts our commitment to Sparkle Motion. Sometimes I doubt our collective commitment to Sparkle Motion.
But then I pop in a cassette tape of "Head Over Heels" by Tears For Fears and I contemplate how exactly one does suck a fuck or what the sex lives of Smurfs are all about or if "feces" means "baby mice" or whether "cellar door" might just be the most beautiful phrase in all of...

Patrick Swayze was a charming cinematic rogue who starred as Sam Wheat in the romantic fantasy Ghost (1990). He portrayed the murdered lover of Demi Moore, who was able to communicate with his wife through a psychic, played by Whoopi Goldberg in an Oscar-winning performance.
Swayze was born in Houston, Texas, on April 18, 1952. His mother was choreographer Patsy Swayze, and Patrick trained as a dancer in the early 1970s. He made his film debut in the roller-disco flick Skatetown, U.S.A. in 1979.
Swayze earned honorary membership in `the Brat Pack’ with his role as Rob Lowe and C. Thomas Howell’s older brother in the 1983 film The Outsiders. He starred as Jed Eckert, leader of the Wolverines, the young freedom fighters who battled Soviet invaders in John Milius’ 1984 Cold War classic Red Dawn.
