[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS Season 21 Episode 8 “Heartless.”] “Even if all your choices are bad, you have to pick the best bad choice because that’s the only choice you’re going to have to survive,” says Gary Cole, explaining why his character, NCIS Special Agent in Charge Alden Parker, made the split-second decision to pose as a heart surgeon in the latest episode. The actor told us more about filming the adrenaline-pumping installment in our weekly after show NCIS: Case Closed. Parker allowed himself to be kidnapped along with a real cardiac specialist, Navy Commander Clara Logan (Christina Kirk), who was being taken to operate on Colombian drug kingpin Carlos Savina (Juan Javier Cardenas). Suspenseful storyline aside, the hour also gave us the opportunity to learn more about Parker, who almost passed out when the patient’s chest was opened up. “...

According to new McKinsey & Company research, there are over 62 million Latinos living in the United States who not only account for more than $3 trillion of Gdp but are also avid consumers of film and TV. US Latinos account for 24 percent of box office ticket sales and 24 percent of streaming subscribers. Yet somehow, there still aren't enough Latines behind and in front of the camera even though our viewership doubles when we see ourselves represented on or off screen.
Today, we still don't have enough TV programming that accurately represents us - and the few shows that have been created for us and by us, like "Vida," "One Day at a Time," "Promised Land," and "Gentefied," were eventually all canceled despite their popularity. Among these many cancellations was Dominican American creator Claudia Forestieri's beloved "Gordita Chronicles," which was released in June 2022 on HBO Max and was canceled after just one season.

This article contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 4, "The Foundling."
While the latest installment of "The Mandalorian" focuses on a Children of the Watch rescue mission, the episode also takes a detour pivot to the fateful night of Order 66 on Coruscant, showcasing how Grogu was rescued from the Jedi Temple. This segue occurs in a rather organic way when Grogu relives his past while the Armorer (Emily Swallow) forges a new beskar rondel for the child. Jar Jar Binks voice-actor Ahmed Best returns in his first full-fledged live-action appearance as Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, having previously played the character in the kids' game show "Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge." Needless to say, it is thrilling to see Best return, especially in a pivotal role where his character saves Grogu's life.

HBO Max has canceled “Gordita Chronicles” after its first season, as the streamer shifts away from live-action kids and family for the time being. The ’80s-set coming-of-age series, which follows a Dominican family moving to Miami, debuted its first season in full on June 23.
“Live-action kids and family programming will not be part of our programming focus in the immediate future, and as a result, we’ve had to make the very difficult decision to end ‘Gordita Chronicles’ at HBO Max,” the streamer said in a statement. “The series earned critical acclaim and a loyal following, and we are proud to have worked with creator Claudia Forestieri and our two powerhouse executive producers, Eva Longoria (who also masterfully directed the pilot) and Zoe Saldana, to bring Cucu’s journey to the screen. I remember when there was such a profound lack of Latinx representation in Hollywood that even seeing our beloved Jennifer Lopez playing a Latina maid in "Maid in Manhattan" felt like progress - compared to films in which we were portrayed as sexpots, gang members, or drug lords. For years, Hollywood has perpetuated harmful stereotypes of Latinx communities, and this failure to humanize Latinxs in mainstream media, film, and television directly impacts the way we are treated by society. While recent years have seen more positive portrayals in Hollywood, it's been slow.
As a result, we as a community have found ourselves at times overly critical of Latinx films or series; we're often quick to dismiss or cancel certain stories because they didn't get everything right. And while the criticism is often valid - like how Lin-Manuel Miranda's film adaptation of "In The Heights" failed to fully depict the...

Gordita Chronicles is set in mid-’80s Miami, but not one that looks like mid-’80s Miami as it actually was. Instead, it’s a turbocharged version of mid-’80s Miami as it might be imagined by someone looking back from decades in the future — all neon colors, graphic shapes and crimped hair. Which does seem appropriate given that it’s narrated, Wonder Years-style, by Dascha Polanco as an unseen older version of its lead.
The show’s nostalgic pleasures extend as well to the tone, which is as cheerfully wholesome as any family sitcom you might’ve grown up watching. (In particular, it calls to my mind Fresh Off the Boat, which likewise centered on a family dealing with a culture clash.) And to its plotlines, which tend to unfold along well-worn beats grasping at tried-and-true themes. What keeps it comfortingly familiar...

Maybe in part because the present looks so bleak, it’s lately been a boom time for shows about looking back on childhood. “The Wonder Years,” on ABC, is an update of the 1980s classic, now narrated by Don Cheadle as he reflects on the Montgomery of the 1960s. “Young Rock,” on NBC, burnishes Dwayne Johnson’s image, dramatizing the ‘80s and ‘90s as lived by a would-be wrestling superstar. And now, HBO Max brings us “Gordita Chronicles,” a winsome look at a Dominican family who’ve just moved to Miami in 1985. Like the similar series currently on broadcast TV, “Gordita Chronicles” is nostalgic — both for the time it depicts and a style of television that used to be much thicker on the ground.
That’s because “Gordita Chronicles” is assertively a Family TV show — and not in the sense of the phrase that’s meant to imply that it’s for children.

Being an actor requires just as much patience as it does hard work. This is something that Juan Javier Cardenas has learned first hand. After years of hard work, it looks like the effort he’s put in has finally started to pay off. Juan made his first on screen appearance in 2010, but he didn’t get his first big break until 2015 when he was cast Tunko in the TV series Lusa. The Walking Dead midseason finale followed tradition by featuring another shocking death. In last week’s penultimate installment of season 10a, Dante was revealed to be a Whisperer agent when he murdered poor Siddiq with his bare hands. In the latest episode, the Alexandrians discovered his deception and locked him up. But this wasn’t enough for one character who exacted their revenge.
In a surprise twist, Gabriel paid Dante a visit and brutally stabbed him to death to get justice for Siddiq’s murder. There was a good chance that Dante’s number was up, given his killing Siddiq last week, but we didn’t expect it to go down like this. Neither did actor Juan Javier Cardenas, who explained in an interview with ComicBook.com that he tried to be prepared for any eventuality when joining the Twd universe.
With a series like The Walking Dead, you really should expect the unexpected.

After a shocking betrayal last week, Alexandria’s doctor Siddiq (Avi Nash) met a tragic fate at the hands of a Whisperer spy. This murder propels “The Walking Dead” through its midseason finale, as the central characters are on edge and out for revenge. In this supersized episode, the Whisperer threat looms large, while a new face could signal the departure of an old favorite from the long running series. Here are the top five best moments from “The World Before.”

“I don’t care if you’re new to us” Alpha (Samantha Morton) hisses at Dante (Juan Javier Cardenas) in an opening flashback sequence. She orders her new recruit to win trust and be her “eyes and ears” inside Alexandria. Having joined the skin mask crew after last season’s blizzard, Lydia conveniently has no knowledge of Dante.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Walking Dead” Season 10, Episode 8, “The World Before” — the midseason finale.]
For the most part, “The World Before” is a perfectly solid “Walking Dead” entry. It successfully juggles several storylines without feeling as inconsequential as “Bonds,” probably because some stories are just beginning while others are winding down. It has some key advancements in the glacial Whisperer conflict, but then it concludes with our heroes doing something almost irredeemably stupid.
And let’s be honest, the leads are really stupid this episode. On a tip from a disillusioned Gamma (Thora Birch), an all-star multi-community team infiltrates Whisperer territory, hoping to locate and destroy Alpha’s (Samantha Morton) zombie horde. What they find is an empty field and Alpha herself. Since Carol’s Season 10 arc has been that revenge has made her dumb and selfishly rash, she takes off after Alpha. Alpha leads Carol (Melissa McBride) into a pitch-black cave. Daryl...

The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 8
“The World Before” leaves The Walking Dead in a strange spot. On one hand, it sets up a couple of effective cliffhangers, but on the other hand, it also seems to drag its feet a lot getting to those cliffhangers, introducing a new character out of the blue and taking what feels like a long time to get the other characters trapped in their cliffhanger situation. In between that, there are a lot of probing conversations between characters about feelings, usually bookended with a big hug and teary eyes after the fact.
The emotions playing on the surface make sense. The survivors have been trapped in a stressful situation for months, if not years, and the...

The Walking Dead's Dante is not who we thought he was. Let's talk about season 10's big twist and how it differs from the comics.
This Walking Dead article contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead is no stranger to changing the backstories and fates of characters from the comics, but the latest change comes with some serious consequences for Siddiq, who died in "Open Your Eyes." As Siddiq discovers right before his tragic death, Dante (Juan Javier Cardenas), a well-known character from Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's comics, is actually a Whisperer informant planted inside Alexandria to spy on the community and spark paranoia within its walls. It's a stunning twist that changes one of the most prominent characters in "The Whisperer War" storyline.
The truth is revealed to Siddiq almost by accident when Dante clicks his tongue, a sound Alexandria's doctor remembers well from the...

(Major spoilers ahead for the November 17 episode of “The Walking Dead” on AMC)
The mid-season finale of “The Walking Dead” is just a few days away now, and things are starting to get very serious as the truce between the communities and the Whisperers has become increasingly strained. War is coming. We just don’t know when. But with the way the situation continues to escalate, it’s hard to imagine the truce holding up much longer.
In the comic book version of “The Walking Dead,” the transition from peace with the Whisperers to all-out war was a simple one, but the dynamic is much more complicated on the show. In the books, as I wrote about last week’s episode, the communities were basically ignored by the Whisperers during the peacetime. The peace was only broken when the escaped Negan wandered into the Whisperers camp, joined up, and eventually...

Well, that was unexpected.
Siddiq (Avi Nash), still suffering from ever-worsening panic attacks, is able to pull himself together enough to realize that Alexandria’s plague is being caused by tainted water — due to a switched handle in the purification system and not from Gamma’s (Thora Birch) zombie dam, as previously theorized — and since Siddiq’s in charge of the water systems with Eugene (Josh McDermitt) gone, he blames himself. Dante (Juan Javier Cardenas) comes by to give him a pep talk and clicks his tongue in a distinct manner, causing Siddiq to realize that Dante is a Whisperer. In fact, he’s the one who forced Siddiq to watch as Alpha (Samantha Morton) beheaded his friends. Dante figures out Siddiq is onto him, they have a brief scuffle, and Dante strangles Siddiq, presumably to death.

Fall won’t begin for a couple more weeks, but we’ve got goosebumps already, thanks to the chilling new Season 10 preview that The Walking Dead released Thursday.

Prepare to scream, fans of The Walking Dead: AMC dropped a new Season 10 promo video Thursday that’s as likely to give you chills as Alpha showing up on your doorstep.
In the super-stylish clip, we see one of our heroes (Daryl) after another (Michonne) after another (Carol) and another (Negan… well, anti-hero, in his case). All the while, their voiceovers reinforce the fact that they are “bonded by the fellowship of the living” and dedicated to one cause: more than mere survival, making the world new again. In other words, they tell us in unison, “Together, we silence the Whisperers.

Props to The Walking Dead for knowing what interests us as much as fresh meat does walkers: The Season 10 key art released Thursday focuses on its two remaining original cast members, Norman Reedus (Daryl) and Melissa McBride (Carol), as well as the departing Danai Gurira, who’s played Michonne since Season 3.
The stark image — which you can view full-size by clicking on it below — features Daryl double-fisting it with a pair of knives, while Michonne and Carol both reach for their weapons, as if the eagerly-anticipated Whisperers war might begin at any second. When it does, it promises to be a doozy.

The Walking Dead is bringing another fan-favorite from the comic books to life.
Juan Javier Cardenas has joined the cast of the tenth season of the AMC hit as Dante.
In the comic books of which the TV series is based on, Dante first shows up on in issue #131.
He quickly emerges as a love interest for Maggie (Lauren Cohan), but Maggie is not ready to move on with someone else following the death of Glenn.
As time passes, Maggie winds up in a relationship with Dante, but there's no telling whether the relationship will play out on the TV show.

Amy Rutberg is set to play a recurring role in the ABC reboot pilot “Get Christie Love,” Variety has learned.
Rutberg will play Danielle Moran, a.k.a. “Silver Manicure,” described as beautiful, mysterious and calculating. Targeting Christie Love (Kylie Bunbury), she can anticipate the CIA agent’s actions in a way that suggests a shared past.
Rutberg is perhaps best known for her role as Marci Stahl in the Marvel-Netflix series “Daredevil,” a role she reprised in the crossover event series “The Defenders.” She has also appeared in NBC’s “Taken” series as well as shows like “NCIS: New Orleans,” “Blindspot,” “The Blacklist,” and “Elementary.”
She is repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Vanguard Management Group.
In addition to Bunbury, Rutberg will appear opposite previously announced cast members Khandi Alexander, Julia Kelly, Camille Guaty, Thomas Cocquerel, Shea Buckner, Juan Javier Cardenas, Steven Weber, Lisseth Chavez, and Dennis Oh.

Every piece of “Snowfall” is well-crafted. From the pitch to the paper to the scenes brought to life from it, John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron’s new drama tells an authentic ’80s tale inspired by truth and shaped by street life in South Central L.A. As the tagline reads, it’s the story of how crack began, which contrasts longstanding cultural oppression with the CIA’s secret role funneling drugs into the country. You can imagine the comparisons — “It’s like ‘The Americans’ meets a west coast ‘Wire’!” — and you can see the layered craft work throughout the first six episodes.
But “Snowfall” doesn’t transcend beyond its talking points. Exquisite period detail and terrific performances, from newcomers like series lead Damson Idris to returning favorites Bokeem Woodbine and Kevin Carroll, can’t fully overcome a familiarity of structure, pacing, and story. We haven’t heard much...

In 1983, John Singleton was 15 years old. He was still eight years away from directing his landmark drama, “Boyz n the Hood,” but he was already living a life not far removed from his Oscar-nominated script. It’s a world he’s revisiting in the new FX drama “Snowfall.”
“In college, they said write about what you know,” Singleton said, following the debut of his first TV project as a writer. “These are my formative years.”
Singleton, who said this series “had been germinating for many, many years,” joined co-creator and showrunner Dave Andron, executive producer Thomas Schlamme, and stars Damson Idris, Carter Hudson, and Juan Javier Cardenas for the Atx TV Festival’s opening night screening of “Snowfall” in Austin, Texas.

Who died and who survived The Walking Dead season 10? We're keeping track right here...
This Walking Dead article contains Major Spoilers for both the show and the comics.
The Whisperers have arrived on The Walking Dead and have already claimed their first victims. Killing a major character in their very first episode, things only got bloodier from there, as more fell to the crazed cult of zombie-flesh-wearing killers by season's end. Certainly, few will forget the show's very own version of the Red Wedding any time soon.
Season 10 has seen tensions rise between the Whisperers and the communities, a cold war that threatens the peace that Michonne, Carol, Daryl, Ezekiel, and the rest of the survivors fought so hard to earn. With bloodshed on both sides, it's only a matter time before the Whisperer War begins.
