Diane Guerrero, who played Maritza Ramos on the Netflix hit “Orange is the New Black,” worked at a bar where patrons would recognize her. “How could you tell this complete stranger how much you’re getting paid for being on a television show?” she asked. “Because everyone’s reaction would be, like, ‘Oh, my God, I love you on that show! But also, what are you doing here?’ It was this incredulity that was teetering on offensive.”
That confrontation was typical for certain cast members on that show and other streaming hits, according to a story this week in The New Yorker. While the cast achieved hugh worldwide fame and fan adoration, the amounts of money they made from their performances didn’t allow them the financial freedom to give up their day or night gigs. That often led to the type of situation Guerrero describes.

Orange Is the New Black helped put Netflix on the map. Now, several of the supporting stars on the trailblazing prison dramedy are looking back on the show’s breakout and continued success to ask why they weren’t fairly compensated.
Their questions, coming as the Jenji Kohan-created series celebrates the 10-year anniversary of its July 11, 2013, premiere, surfaced in a New Yorker story published ahead of SAG-AFTRA announcing an actors strike after the union failed to reach a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) group of studios and streamers. And many of the Oitnb castmembers’ woes reflect the issues at heart of the tense negotiations between SAG and the AMPTP.
Ten Oitnb recurring stars (some who were later upped to series regulars) — including Kimiko Glenn, Alysia Reiner, Beth Dover, Emma Myles, Diane Guerrero, Taryn Manning and Lea DeLaria — spoke with writer Michael Schulman about...

Shooting on Netflix’s “The Decameron” has kicked off at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios, where the lavish period soap will be based for the next six months.
The U.S. show, which is being made entirely in Italy, marks one of the biggest international productions lured by the storied studios in recent years.
Hailing from executive producer Jenji Kohan and creator/showrunner Kathleen Jordan (“Teenage Bounty Hunters”), the eight-episode drama takes place in 1348, as the Black Death pandemic strikes hard in the city of Florence. A handful of nobles are invited to retreat with their servants to a grand villa in the Italian countryside and wait out the pestilence with a lavish holiday. But as social rules wear thin, what starts as a wine-soaked sex romp in the hills of Tuscany descends into an all out scramble for survival.

“Glow” will not proceed with Season 4 at Netflix as planned, Variety has confirmed.
The Emmy-nominated Netflix comedy series about a troupe of female professional wrestlers had originally been renewed for a fourth and final season, but plans for that season have now been scrapped due to production delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of ‘Glow’ due to Covid, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of ‘Glow’ with us and the world.”
The show had been renewed for its last season last year. Production had begun on Season 4 earlier this year but was shut down early on due to the pandemic.

“Glow” has been canceled by Netflix due to Covid-related circumstances, with the streaming service reversing the fourth and final season renewal it had given the Alison Brie- and Betty Gilpin-led comedy last September.
An individual with knowledge tells TheWrap filming on one episode of the final batch of “Glow” installments had been completed in February and production had begun on a second before everything was shut down due to the pandemic. Netflix had been attempting to get “Glow,” which is shot entirely in Los Angeles, back into production, but the ensemble cast of 20 and show’s inclusion of actual wrestling scenes that require heavy breathing and physical exertion put it at a “very high level of risk” to shoot amid the coronavirus, the insider said.

Exclusive: Netflix has opted not to pick up a second season of Teenage Bounty Hunters. The news comes nearly two months after the series’ August 14 debut on the streamer.
Created by Kathleen Jordan, Teenage Bounty Hunters centered on fraternal twins Sterling (Maddie Phillips) and Blair (Anjelica Bette Fellini), who are looking for more trouble beyond their pristine Southern lifestyle. The twins team with experienced bounty hunter Bowser Jenkins (Kadeem Hardison) and start bringing in local criminals. The girls balance the hazards of their secret profession with the finer details of high school life including romance; advanced school work; and, of course, the popular kids. Sterling and Blair work to keep their academic lives and their questionable extracurricular activities separated.
The show cracked the Nielsen Streaming Rankings Top 10 for the week of August 17-23.

While we’ve all been sitting at home watching our hair grow, Jenji Kohan and a crew of “Orange Is the New Black” writers were dreaming up ways to continue making television within the creative limitations of quarantine. Netflix recently released a first trailer for the experimental new series, and it’s not only full of familiar faces — but even more familiar stories.

Each standalone episode is told through a virtual lens and captures the unique emotional experience of being forced apart by circumstance and having no...

Such is the case with Netflix’s latest teenage action comedy. It’s called Teenage Bounty Hunters and you will absolutely guess what it’s all about.
Teenage Bounty Hunters stars Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini as fraternal twins and best friends Sterling and Blair Wesley. As the show’s title so helpfully implies, Sterling and Blair are 16-year-old bounty hunters. Netflix’s full synopsis of the show reads:

While Netflix has reliably renewed Glow for its fourth season, it will, unfortunately, be the show’s final frame.
Glow Season 4 is officially set for Netflix! – However, this year’s renewal comes with the bittersweet caveat of being the final one, as the girls go home with this proverbial match.
Don’t expect any changes to the creative lineup as Glow heads into its fourth and final season. Creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch will resume their duty as showrunners, writers and executive producers, joined by executive producers Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann and Mark Burley. The addition of Kohan, the creator of Netflix’s acclaimed comedy, Orange is the New Black, was highly touted during Glow’s conception, and has become somewhat coincidental, since the former just released its seventh and final season in July.
All good things must come to a GLOWing end. We're coming back...
