While contestants on The Biggest Loser drop an incredible amount of weight in just a few short weeks, that weight loss is often unsustainable and actually harmful to their metabolism, according to a new study.
Researchers followed 14 of the contestants from season 8 of The Biggest Loser, including the winner, Danny Cahill, for six years after the show ended. Thirteen of the 14 regained some of the weight back, and four of those gained back what they had lost – and more.

Now Et talks to 22-year-old Allie Ishcomer, who has lost 60 pounds, down from her starting weight of 322 pounds. "I think that they saw me as a threat and it was a good opportunity to get rid of me because I had the highest body fat in the house," Allie tells Et. "So who would you want? Would you want to keep a young girl who hasn't had an injury, or an older lady [Tina] who has an injury? It was a game play move. At the end of the day, it is a game. It is what it is." (S09E13) Danny Cahill, who won last season of 'The Biggest Loser,' was so much fun to watch on his journey to success. Who better to come and inspire the current batch of contestants? He was joined by CNBC's Suze Orman, who came back to offer financial advice to the contestants, or at least that's what we were led to believe.
In truth, she did little more than ask a couple of them how in debt they were, and then made her prediction as to who would win based on various financial factors she knew about them. She made a last minute change to her pick based on a revelation one of the contestants made right there.
I remember last year her talking about the financial burden of being overweight, and really getting into some real discussion, but this time she had virtually nothing to say. Maybe they...

Ex-contestants of The Biggest Loser who've lost the weight but are stuck with lots of excess skin may want to do the daytime talk show circuit - especially if it involves appearing on programs hosted by physicians. During an episode of the syndicated show The Doctors this week, recent winner Danny Cahill, 40, was offered free surgery to remove the significant fold of extra flesh that's currently circling his gut. Cahill, who won the cash prize in December for losing 239 pounds, agreed to flash his flabby tummy on TV and was instantly rewarded with the mother of all rewards - a free trip to the O.

Will you be tuning in Jan. 5 to watch couples fight the battle of the bulge?
It seems like we just watched Danny Cahill become The Biggest Loser after losing 239 pounds, but it’s already time to be inspired by another group of heavyweights.
Season nine of the hit NBC reality show is all about pairs, as the heaviest couples the show has ever seen compete to lose it all on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
30-year-old Michael Ventrella—a deejay from Chicago, Ill.—is literally the show’s biggest contestant ever, topping the scales at more than 520 pounds; he’ll be competing with his 51-year-old mom, Maria.
Also, looking to drop significant poundage are Orlando-based brothers James and John Crutchfield, 30, who call themselves “the half-ton twins” because they weigh nearly 500 pounds each.
In typical Biggest Loser fashion, the preview gave us chills watching these people re-build their lives and got us all choked up.

Toward the end of the year, TV shows that are doing well in rating have started getting the pick-up while those that struggle are given the ax. That way, networks would be able to determine which shows would return in midseason and which new shows should replace the canceled ones. Moreover, winners from reality shows such as "Survivor", "Top Chef" and "The Biggest Loser" begin to reveal themselves.

The newest "Biggest Loser" was the worst role model for his kids. Danny Cahill, the winner of the NBC reality show "The Biggest Loser: Second Chances," admits he wasn't exactly the best father model before joining the show.
The 40-year-old father of two told In Touch Weekly, "I would sit on the couch, watch TV, eat tons of food. I was the worst role model for my kids."
He used to weigh 430 pounds when his wife, Darci, and family staged interventions and begged him to get healthy.
He said he had to find his self-worth, and rediscovered it on the show. He dropped a total record of 239 pounds and won the title in the most recent installment of the weight-loss contest show.

The ninth edition of "The Biggest Loser" will feature one of the show's largest casts ever -- in more ways than one.
The NBC series will kick off its new cycle Tuesday, Jan. 5 with a return to the "Couples" format, with 11 two-person teams of family members competing to see who can shed the most pounds. The 22 people taking part in show matches the number of people who began season 7 at the ranch (season 3 had contestants from all 50 states, but only 14 stayed on camera at the ranch while the other 36 lost weight at home).
The show will also feature its heaviest contestant ever. Michael Ventrella, a 31-year-old DJ from Chicago, began the show at 526 pounds. He's competing with his mother, Maria.
Twin brothers James and John Crutchfield of Orlando, meanwhile, weigh in at a combined total of just under 1,000 pounds (James is 485, John 484). Both brothers and Michael Ventrella weigh more than the show's previous heaviest contestant,...

After losing 230 pounds, Danny Cahill not only became the winner of the eighth season of "The Biggest Loser," but with a 55.58 percent weight loss, he is officially the biggest loser in "Biggest Loser" history.
The lovable land surveyor and musician was a fan favorite because of his caring attitude towards his fellow contestants, determination and frequent emotional breakdowns. In a conference call Wednesday following his win, he even called himself "the biggest crier."
Check out what else Danny shared:
What was your regimen from the time you left the ranch to last night's win?
Danny Cahill: I did exactly what I did on the ranch. I kept my diet exactly like I did. I was a stickler for what I put in my body. I kept the workouts the same I did on the ranch. I did that with the help of my family. They supported me wholly in the process.
