Kino Industries has entered into a creative and co-financing partnership with Rocketman financier Starlings Entertainment.
As part of the deal, Starlings will establish a fund for film and TV development, also meeting co-financing and P&a commitments on projects shared with Kino.
To this point, Kino Industries has been best known for creating CtrlMovie, a “pioneering, interactive technology” allowing film and TV audiences to have real-time collaborative influence over the direction of a story and its characters. The first CtrlMovie production involving Starlings Entertainment will be Echo on Sunset (working title), a feature from BAFTA-winning director Tobias Weber (Late Shift), who co-founded Kino Industries and invented its “proprietary, patented film, streaming and gaming experience.”
Echo on Sunset is a life-or-death crime thriller set in Los Angeles, which blurs the lines between good and evil. The CtrlMovie audience acts as the moral compass of its protagonists, and is forced to navigate...

In today’s film news roundup, Dermot Mulroney will play a meth head, production wraps on the transgender drama “Relish,” and Tom Everett Scott’s “Danger One” gets a release.
Castings
Dermot Mulroney and Melora Walters have joined the music-inspired independent feature “Hard Luck Love Song” opposite Sophia Bush and Michael Dorman, Variety has learned exclusively.
Commercial director Justin Corsbie will helm from a script he wrote with Nicholl semifinalist Craig Ugoretz, based on the Todd Snider song “Just Like Old Times.” Allison Smith, Douglas Matejka, and Corsbie are producing; executive producers are Peter Scalettar and Christian Monti.
“Hard Luck Love Song” follows Dorman’s down-on-his-luck troubadour, who finds himself at an existential crossroads as his bad decisions catch up with him. His world spins into further upheaval after a chance encounter with an old flame, played by Bush.
Mulroney’s character is a sketchy meth head with a dangerous side.

20th Century Fox distribution boss Chris Aronson during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation unveiled a licensing pact with Kino Industries’ CtrlMovie technology, which will allow in-theater audiences to control characters’ actions throughout a film “allowing them to choose what happens next and see the consequences of those choices play out on the big screen.”
Fox will utilize the technology for its upcoming Choose Your Own Adventure, a film based on the 1980s book series that sold more 265 million copies worldwide. It’s currently in development with John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions, and Shannon Gilligan of the book brand Chooseco attached to produce.
“We’re dedicated to providing incredible motion picture experience,” Aronson said today. “It’s so important that we are genuine partners and not adversaries. There’s a need for collaborators in this industry, not so-called disruptors. There...

Twentieth Century Fox on Thursday announced that it’s partnering with interactive film company Kino Industries to license an app that will allow movie audiences to control the storyline and characters in the upcoming film “Choose Your Own Adventure.”
The studio is licensing Kino Industries’ CtrlMovie technology, which will allow in-theater audiences to control the action throughout a film, Fox said during a CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. Audiences can use Kino’s app on their smartphones to vote on what the characters will do at pivotal points in the narrative. The same film can have a different plot, ending, and running time depending on the audience preferences and is supposed to happen seamlessly with no breaks in between scenes.

Asset management company Aviron Capital, private company led by a consortium of financiers with funding primarily provided by BlackRock, has acquired a substantial equity stake in Kino Industries.
Kino is the developer of CtrlMovie, an interactive movie experience enabling audiences to control the direction of a film’s narrative via a smartphone app. No financial details of the investment were disclosed.
The CtrlMovie app lets viewers vote to decide what characters will do at pivotal points in the narrative, giving a single film different plots, endings and running times depending on the audience’s choices. While interactivity has been attempted before, backers of CtrlMovie say its seamless functionality does not interrupt the action on screen. Developers promise “a deeply engaging and highly communal movie-watching experience, unlike anything that’s come before.”

Thanks in large part to James DeMonaco’s cult Purge franchise, Captain America: Civil War alum Frank Grillo is fast becoming a bankable lead star for Hollywood studios – a streak that has spurred Netflix into action at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival.
Making its first acquisition on the Croisette, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the online giant has snapped up rights to Wheelman, a high octane action-thriller that thrusts Grillo into the role of a daring getaway driver. No further details were disclosed in terms of casting, but we understand the Frank Grillo will also produce the feature alongside Joe Carnahan and Myles Nestel of The Solution Entertainment Group. J. Todd Harris, Chady Mattar and Scott Silver will executive produce.
Jeremy Rush, meanwhile, will direct from his own script, and plans are reportedly in place for Wheelman to drift before cameras in fall of this year – and Frank Grillo can hardly wait.

*Updated with two new clips* “Tell them not to open it up yet, tell them to hold off,” says Dr. Holden in one of the new clips from Grégory Levasseur’s The Pyramid. Though they are excited, Dr. Holden and his colleagues soon find they would be better off not attending the first opening of the lost pyramid. In addition to the new clips, Fox released a featurette exploring the longtime friendship between director Grégory Levasseur and producer Alexandre Aja.
“The ancient wonders of the world have long cursed explorers who’ve dared to uncover their secrets. But a team of U.S. archaeologists gets more than they bargained for when they discover a lost pyramid unlike any other in the Egyptian desert. As they unlock the horrific secrets buried within, they realize they aren’t just trapped, they are being hunted.”

There's nothing we like here at MoreHorror better than an expertly made film that really covers all the bases and writer/director Nick Simon's feature debut Removal really delivers in this regard. Filled with twists, turns, gold-star performances from an all-around amazing cast, awesome dialogue, and incredible shots, this film is easily one of the best horror films I've seen in a long while. It follows the story of Cole, a carpet cleaner who takes on a rather unusual cleaning job for a wealthy client and winds up with a lot more to contend with than he bargained for.
Writer/director Nick Simon and writer/actor Oz Perkins of Removal were both kind enough to answer some questions for me recently in regards to this very cool film. If you still haven't had a chance to check it out for yourself, catch it today On Demand or on DVD.

Removal is an independent psychological horror feature from Silvatar Media, which puts one carpet cleaner on the job and in the home of a ruthless killer. Or is it all in his head? Described as a black comedy, Removal keeps you guessing by keeping the film's reality in question. Are the blood soaked carpets a figment of the viewer's or Cole's imagination or is this an elaborate set-up, to torment a man already tortured by witnessing a recent murder suicide? The answers are not clear, but horror fans can take a look at the disturbing trailer for Removal below.
The synopsis for Removal:
"Cole is a likeable regular guy. Except that ever since he witnessed a gruesome murder-suicide, things haven't been quite right. His wife left him, he is tormented by hallucinations and his career has nosedived into a blue collar job with a carpet cleaning service.
