The Terror, one of AMC’s hit franchises, is returning to the network more than five years after its last season.
The network has ordered The Terror: Devil in Silver as the third installment in the anthology series. It comes after Season 2 – The Terror: Infamy – premiered in 2019.
The six-part series premiering in 2025 is based on The Devil in Silver, a novel written by Victor Lavalle. He is writing the new iteration alongside Chris Cantwell, who who was showrunner on AMC’s 2014-17 drama Halt and Catch Fire.
Back in 2020, then AMC boss Sarah Barnett told Deadline that it was interested in a third run and was eyeing topics for development.
The Terror: Devil in Silver tells the story of Pepper, a working-class moving man who, through a combination of bad luck and a bad temper, finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital – an institution filled with the people society would rather forget.

AMC has been through multiple phases, from its origins as American Movie Classics to its iconic anti-hero years of “Breaking Bad” and “Mad Men.” Now, the flagship property of AMC Networks is entering its next era, as it says goodbye to “The Walking Dead” and “Better Call Saul” in a few months, and hello to its Anne Rice franchise, increased viewership on AMC+ and it’s biggest year of original programming yet.
The way Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios at AMC Networks, puts it to Variety, the company is experiencing “a real creative renaissance and resurgence.” “In the wake of these classic, great tentpole series ending, we’re successfully launching the next generation of classic, great tentpole series,” McDermott says.

AMC Networks Promotes Dan McDermott to President of Entertainment and AMC Studios, Expands Oversight
AMC Networks has upped Dan McDermott to president of entertainment and AMC Studios, expanding his domain to include business affairs, acquisitions and scheduling, as well as consumer PR.
In doing so, McDermott assumes some of the oversight held by longtime AMC Networks chief operating officer Ed Carroll, who previously announced his departure from the company at the end of this year.
McDermott most recently served as president of original programming for AMC Networks and head of AMC Studios. He joined AMC in March 2020 and has seen his stature in the company quickly rise in the company following the exit last summer of AMC Networks Entertainment Group president Sarah Barnett, who wasn’t replaced. And he took on full control of AMC Studios after co-president Stefan Reinhardt exited around the start of this year.

Per Deadline, production is set to begin next month, but the show will not see the light of day until the first quarter of 2022.

CEO Josh Sapan announced the cuts, which will affect 10% of AMC Networks’ U.S. staffers, during an employee town hall Wednesday. The layoffs will affect several departments across the company — not including the Los Angeles-based programming team — with cut staffers set to exit by the end of the year. Details about the new company structure were not provided.
AMC’s national networks include AMC, We tv, BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. Its subscriber-video-on-demand services include AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now and Umc.

Exclusive: AMC Networks is letting go 10% of its U.S. workforce, eliminating nearly 100 positions in a reorganization designed to streamline the company’s linear and streaming operations.
CEO Josh Sapan announced the cuts during a virtual town hall meeting earlier today, company insiders tell Deadline. He said a months-long strategic evaluation of the company had focused on an overhaul of its structure to emphasize areas with the greatest growth potential as streaming becomes more central to the entire industry. Similar to the view of other media leaders confronting the march of technology, Sapan said a central objective for 2021 and beyond will be to change how the company operates. Acquiring streaming customers, for example, is a different organizational process than driving higher affiliate fees.
Other media companies, including WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal, have recently shed jobs in restructuring efforts, and ViacomCBS and Disney have similarly streamlined as a result of major mergers.

AMC Networks reported its second-quarter 2020 earnings Tuesday, which saw a 14.6% decrease to $187 million in advertising revenue domestically, a drop that it attributed primarily to the coronavirus pandemic. Still, the Josh Sapan-led company beat on analysts’ forecasts for both earnings and revenue in the coronavirus-plagued quarter.
At national networks — which includes AMC Networks’ AMC, BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, and We tv, along with AMC Studios — AMC Networks says ad sales were down was because of “lower demand” and “the timing of the airing of original programming,” in a quarter that saw the company have to push both “The Walking Dead” Season 10 finale and “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” series premiere from their planned April 12 airdate due to Covid-forced production shutdowns.
AMC aired one episode of “The Walking Dead” in the quarter which ended June 30, as well as a few episodes of “NOS4A2,” “Better Call Saul,” and Jason Segel’s limited series “Dispatches From Elsewhere.

AMC Networks Entertainment Group President Sarah Barnett will be stepping down from her position after Labor Day. Following her departure, the company’s Entertainment Networks, which includes AMC, BBC America, IFC and Sundance TV, and AMC Studios will report to AMC Networks COO Ed Carroll on an interim basis.
Barnett’s departure comes at a challenging time for linear television and especially ad-supported basic cable whose prospects were further hurt by the coronavirus pandemic, which cut ad spending. Her exit also comes at a high for her division. The announcement follows Tuesday’s Emmy nominations, where AMC Networks scored two of the eight best drama series Emmy noms with AMC’s Better Call Saul and BBC America/AMC’s Killing Eve, the only non-premium/streaming series to make the cut in the top drama category this year.
Like most linear TV companies, AMC Networks has been shifting its focus to streaming.

Killing Eve Season 4 was, thankfully, confirmed long ago. A fourth season of BBC America‘s brilliant and highly-addictive spy-assassin show was ordered way back in January, before Season 3 even started. Basically, everyone involved in this production knows that they have a hit on their hands and is acting accordingly.
As Sarah Barnett, President, AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios, lauds in a statement:
“How could we not have massive confidence in Killing Eve? It has won big in every major award show and is the highest growing show on U.S. television for six years. The reason for this series’ emphatic embrace is the brilliant women who breathed it into being: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell, Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Fiona Shaw and its fairy godmother, executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle.

AMC Studios has entered into multi-year overall deals with Rolin Jones, Gina Mingacci and Ray McKinnon.
Under the deals, all three will develop and produce new series for AMC Networks’ Entertainment Group as well as other content companies. The deals expand AMC Networks’ ongoing or previous creative partnerships with Jones, Mingacci and McKinnon.
“Our writers and producers are the center of everything we do and achieve, and I could not be happier to welcome (back) this massively talented triumvirate to AMC Networks,” said Sarah Barnett, president of AMC Networks’ Entertainment Group and AMC Studios. “Rolin, Gina and Ray are exceptional. I look forward to making incredible television with these brilliant humans, all of whom are incapable of doing anything that isn’t something special.”
Jones was the co-creator and showrunner of HBO’s upcoming “Perry Mason” series as well as the Season 1 executive producer and showrunner of “The Exorcist” for Fox.

With AMC recently announcing plans for a Rob Ford biopic and the upcoming debut of the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” series “Quiz,” the studio is continuing to foster relationships with unique creatives.
AMC Studios has revealed that it’s inked separate overall deals with “Rectify” creator Ray McKinnon, “Friday Night Lights” writer-producer Rolin Jones, and “Killing Eve” producer Eve Mingacci. The trio will create exclusive content over several years for AMC Networks Entertainment Group — which includes BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, and the streaming service Shudder — as well other content companies. The announcement says this is merely an expansion of the trio’s already ongoing relationships with the network.

AMC Studios is doubling down on overall deals – striking agreements with Perry Mason exec producer Rolin Jones, Killing Eve exec producer Gina Mingacci and Rectify creator Ray McKinnon.
This builds on previous overall deals including Fear The Walking Dead star Colman Domingo and comes as the company looks to grow its production arm.
All three have previously worked with AMC Networks; Mingacci, who was previously VP, development and current programming at BBC America, on Killing Eve, Jones on pilot Knifeman and McKinnon on SundanceTV’s Rectify.
Jones returns to the AMC fold, where he previously was under an overall deal, before moving to 20th Century Fox and Fox 21.
The arrangement with Mingacci is interesting given it marks one of the first times that a current executive at a British production company – in this case Killing Eve producer Sid Gentle Films – has struck an overall deal with a U.S.

Another stellar season of Better Call Saul has come and gone. Season 5 found Jimmy McGill putting on his Saul Goodman game face, Nacho learning some new tricks, and Kim uncovering a particularly terrifying side of herself. The season ended on about as strong a note as anyone could have hoped. Of course, all that does is make us want more Right Now.
So when will we get to see Better Call Saul season 6? The short answer is “eh, probably in just under a year.” The longer answer is “eh, probably in just under a year unless the show encounters an unprecedented production issue like, let’s say hypothetically, a global pandemic that shuts down the entire world through the fall.”
Better Call Saul season 5 first premiered on February 23, 2020 – well before lockdown orders spread across the United States and beyond due to the coronavirus outbreak. The season began filming in April...

If you don’t yet have a subscription to the excellent horror streaming service Shudder, then you probably have not had a chance to see Creepshow, the original anthology series based on the classic 1982 movie written by Stephen King and the late George A. Romero.
Well, while we nevertheless strongly recommend that you check out Shudder if you’re a horror fan, you’re still in luck if you don’t: the entire first season of Creepshow will run on basic cable’s AMC network (which owns Shudder) next month. The show will premiere on Monday, May 4 and will air two episodes back to back, starting at 9:00 p.m. Et.
Now, the first season is comprised of just six episodes, but each episode contains two standalone tales of terror for a total of one dozen haunting stories, many of them written and/or directed by some of the genre’s more notable names.
