Update (May 16, 2014): Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison, minus 48 days of credit for time served. Bandmates Nick Hipa, Phil Sgrosso and Josh Gilbert attended the sentencing hearing. ________________________ Tim Lambesis is facing the music. The frontman for the metalcore band As I Lay Dying pleaded guilty Tuesday in Vista Superior Court to solicitation of murder after attempting to put a hit out on his estranged wife, according to San Diego, Calif.'s ABC 10 News. Lambesis' wife, Meggan, had reportedly filed for divorce in September 2012. He was arrested last May, accused of hiring a man—who turned out to be an undercover sheriff's deputy—to kill...

As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis was arrested Tuesday in San Diego, Calif., after police uncovered an alleged plot he was hatching to kill his wife. As the 32-year-old rocker prepares to face formal charges in court today, his band members are reeling from the news. On Wednesday, As I Lay Dying's four other members—Jordan Mancino, Phil Sgrosso, Nick Hipa and Josh Gilbert—posted a statement on the band's website that expressed their shock over the "terrible situation" while leaning on their fans for support. "As we post this, the legal process is taking its course and we have no more information than you do," the band wrote. "There are many unanswered questions, and...

Here's a couple of awesome pieces of mash-up art featuring a couple of movie classics mashed together with a couple of video game classics. The illustrations were done by Josh Gilbert, and they feature a Pac-Man inspired Labyrinth game, and a Donkey Kong inspired Dark Crystal game. Now, if only someone could actually turn these game concepts into a reality...

Last fall, San Diego-based metalcore giants As I Lay Dying marked their tenth anniversary with the diverse and entertaining compilation album Decas, which not only included hails-and-horns salutes to their many influences, but also demonstrated how far the band has evolved since 2001 and hinted at possible new explorations to come. With that said, the band's sixth studio release Awakened pretty much sticks to the band's signature mode of melody-driven metal drive by thrashy intensity and speed, fronted by the harsh/clean vocal blend of founder & frontman Tim Lambesis and bassist Josh Gilbert. All those elements fell excellently into place for 2010's The Powerless Rise, and in many ways Awakened feels like a continuation of that album, but with greater emphasis on vocal harmonies & overdubs, carried off by slick production from Bill Stevenson – itself kind of a surprise to me, given that Stevenson's industry rep is based mainly on punk and hardcore acts like Nofx.

For you literature buffs, you may only know As I Lay Dying to be the name of the novel written by William Faulkner. And that wouldn’t be a bad thing, given how famous and influential the novel is. However, there’s also a band named after the book – a band who are now one of the most prominent in the metalcore genre and can even be classed as one of the leaders or one of the enduring pioneers in the contemporary metal scene.
Even though the band share the same name as the book, the theme of the band’s music doesn’t draw a parallel to the themes of the novel. The band has made this clear throughout their career – the name wasn’t chosen because the book has played a big part in their lives, it was chosen because it just seemed to...

Though there's very little real, legitimate information out there on The Dark Knight Rises, it's not for lack of trying. Tons of journalists lucky enough to attend the Oscars this past weekend spoke to cast members Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and even director Christopher Nolan and got little to nothing in terms of news. Hathaway told Oprah she be playing Catwoman [1], but that's about it. Still, the film is slowly coming together and as production ramps up, more and more information will leak out. Case in point, Badass Digest has what they think is legitimate information regarding how all of the official (Tom Hardy as Bane [2], Hathaway as Catwoman) and unofficial (Joseph Gordon-Levitt possibly as several people [3], Marion Cotillard possibly as Talia Al'Ghul [4]) actors and characters fit into the story. Check it out and speculate after the break. If you are trying to stay spoiler free for Batman 3, then...

'A/k/a Tommy Chong' -- When comedy legend Tommy Chong was arrested in 2003 and given a nine-month prison sentence for the manufacture and sale of drug paraphernalia, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft's revamped war on drugs soared, like a mighty eagle stricken with vertigo in mid-flight, to new levels of absurdity. Fortunately, filmmaker Josh Gilbert's cameras were rolling at the time, offering viewers a first-hand account of the vengeful American justice system in action.
