What the documentary “Tyson” lacks in insight, it attempts to make up for with access: emotional (and often volatile) one-on-one interviews with the eponymous heavyweight champion, a variety of Tyson-sympathetic talking heads, and illuminating archival footage that traces his rise to athletic fame. Told over the course of a slim running time, “Tyson” tries to cram a decades of tragedy, controversy, pain, and success into a tidy package, complete with a feel-good ending that does little to dispel the truncated treatment of the more horrific elements of Mike Tyson’s life. It ends on a high note for the troubled star, with an eye towards a bright (and perhaps unexpected) future, temporarily diverting enough to make the film itself feel revelatory.
That’s “Tyson,” the James Toback-directed documentary from 2008. It is also, strangely enough, David Michaels’ “Tyson,” a new documentary about the former boxing superstar that offers almost exactly...

Mike Tyson sees the upcoming birth of his eighth child as a fresh start at fatherhood, insisting he will "do it right" this time.
The former boxer had two children with his second wife Monica Turner, but their four-year-old daughter Exodus died in a freak accident last year. He also has five other kids from previous relationships.
Tyson hopes his new baby with his current wife Lakiha Spicer will have a more stable upbringing than his previous children as he is in a happy relationship and finally free of a longrunning drug addiction - and he's vowed to be a "committed and dedicated" dad.
He tells newsman Larry King, "I'm just looking forward to trying to do this stuff right. Of course... I want to do it right... This is my third marriage... You have to be committed and dedicated. This is going to be something new on me, to be totally committed and dedicated to this situation."
The baby boy is due in February.

Mike Tyson has become a virtual recluse since the tragic death of his daughter Exodus - because he wants to spend as much time as possible with his family.
Exodus, four, was found unconscious, hanging from the power cable of a treadmill in her Phoenix, Arizona home last year. Her mother, Tyson's ex-wife Monica Turner, rushed the girl to hospital but she was pronounced dead hours later.
The former boxing champion admits his grief made him feel like he "didn't want to live anymore" - but he has now turned his life around and is devoting himself to his third wife Lakiha Spicer and his remaining six children.
And that means turning down all requests for personal appearances unless they're work-related.
He tells Las Vegas' Gridlock radio show, "My personal life is so isolated right now. I don't go anywhere unless I'm invited. If I don't have a reason (for) being there, I'm not going to go.
"I enjoy being with my children and my wife now. That's the only thing (that) keeps me grounded. (After Exodus died) I didn't want to live anymore. In order to go on I had to change my life."...

Mike Tyson has opened up about the tragic death of his daughter Exodus, confessing he's still "in denial" about the four year old's untimely demise.
Little Exodus was found unconscious, hanging from the power cable of a treadmill in her Phoenix, Arizona home in May. Her mother, Tyson's second wife Monica Turner, rushed the girl to hospital but she was pronounced dead hours later.
The former boxing champ has been keeping silent about the incident, but he's now sharing his thoughts, branding the weeks after his daughter's death a "dark moment" in his life.
And Tyson admits he's still struggling to come to terms with the loss.
In his first interview about the tragedy, he tells U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight, "I really was beating myself up over my daughter. I was staying in the house, depressed; it was a dark moment in my life.
"I am working with dealing with it. I have spoken to a lot of people. I have become a member of an exclusive club no one wants to join. I have been told the pain never stops but you get over it. I am going through a process, trying to heal.
"I am in denial, because I don't know how to handle it. I don't know what to do or say. I appreciate everybody who supported me."
But Tyson is trying his best to live as normal a life as possible and has agreed to make an appearance in new U.S. TV series Brothers, starring Michael Strahan and Daryl 'Chill' Mitchell.
He adds, "This keeps me functioning as a healthy human being."...
