New Delhi, Aug 16 (Ians) Former Indian cricketer and batting coach Sanjay Bangar made a vociferous pitch for Virat Kohli to play next year’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and US from June 4 to 30.
“Hundred per cent he should be there in the T20 team. What he did in the previous T20 World Cup and in those close matches, I don’t see the reason why he can’t be seen playing T20 cricket and next year’s T20 World Cup,” Bangar told a YouTube channel ‘Cricket Basu’.
“You know that in big situations where emotions run high, one small mistake could cost you dear. You need big players who have gone through those situations. At that point, it doesn’t really matter what your strike-rate is, or what you have done in the Ipl, in big games you require big match players. Hyderabad, May 31 (Ians) Leading actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar promote brands which also manufacture gutka, a generic name given in India to smokeless tobacco products. Unfortunately, these actors have been promoting this product which causes severe harm to the human body through surrogate means, say doctors on eve of World No-Tobacco Day.

Speculations regarding Dhoni’s potential retirement have been circulating ever since the commencement of 2023 Ipl, hinting that this edition could mark his final appearance in the tournament.
Csk’s bowling coach Dwayne Bravo has earlier expressed his belief that the recently introduced Impact Player rule in the Ipl could contribute to the extension of Ms Dhoni’s tenure with the yellow army.
However, Sehwag holds a differing opinion. Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former opener said that Dhoni is only playing because of his captaincy and the Impact Player rule is for specific players.

New Delhi, April 30 (Ians) The iconic Wankhede Stadium is set to celebrate two big occasions as Mumbai Indians host Rajasthan Royals in the reverse fixture in the Ipl 2023 in the evening game on Sunday.
In what is going to be a double delight for the spectators tonight, the Ipl is set to host its landmark 1000th game while Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma will be playing at his home ground on his 36th birthday today.
Ipl 2023 might not have been a memorable one for Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma so far as the franchise finds itself at the bottom half of the points table but this team knows how to bounce back.
Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag claims despite losing two games on the trot, Mi is still capable of a comeback and skipper Rohit Sharma – who is going play his 150th match as Ipl captain – shouldn’t take any undue pressure.

Tendulkar won the World Cup, innumerable Man of the Match and Series awards, scored the first-ever Odi double ton, made the highest number of centuries, the highest number of runs, most caps for the country… he did it all but his critics, which are very less in numbers, also keep reminding fans about his failures on big days.
No doubt, Sachin carried the burden of pressure and expectations of Indian cricket fans throughout his career but he also failed on a few days, when the country wanted him to lead from the front with the bat and win it for Team India.
One such day was March 23, 2003, when India played an intimidating Australia in the Icc World Cup Final in Johannesburg. The Sourav Ganguly-led Indian cricket team was on a roll in that World Cup in South Africa, where they reached the final with just one defeat in the tournament.

What the greatest playwright of English meant was that some people are born great and don’t have to work for it; others have to work hard and find greatness while the third group comprises those who are blessed by fate and are allowed to be great in a surprising manner.
But there is one more category that is born great but nurtures their prodigious talent and by the sheer dint of their hard work enhance their greatness and become the greatest of them all. And then they even surpass that stage and become demigods.
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar falls in this category — born with talent in abundance, he nurtured it through hard work and through the sheer application of his talent and sweat earned the sobriquet of ‘God of Cricket’.
As the greatest cricketer to grace the sport celebrates his 50th birthday on April 24, the world acknowledges him as the living God of Cricket.

Ahmedabad, April 17 (Ians) Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya’s bowling changes, especially in the death overs in the match against Rajasthan Royals are being questioned with the likes of Virender Sehwag, Amol Muzumdar and Tom Moody feeling the Titans skipper erred by not giving another over to Mohit Sharma.
Mohit Sharma had bowled two overs for just seven runs in the second half of the Rajasthan Royals’ chase of a 178-run target. Skipper Sanju Samson was looking to break the shackles as Rajasthan Royals were recovering from a precarious 66/4 after 12 overs needing 112 runs to win from 48 balls. Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer guided them to victory with some superb batting against Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami in the last couple of overs to guide them to three wickets victory.

New Delhi, April 16 (Ians) Former India opener Virender Sehwag said Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has to take the blame for the side’s disastrous start in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 season after having done some good work in the past seasons.
Sehwag’s words come after Delhi suffered its fifth consecutive defeat in the tournament, this time in a 23-run loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday and are still at the bottom of the ten-team points table.
“I think I said before that Punjab have passed on the axe to Delhi, so now the axe has reached Delhi. When a team loses, the coaches are credited, so when the team loses, they should be held responsible.
Even, we said so many times that Ponting has done a brilliant job, taking them to the finals, they now reach the playoffs almost every year now.

New Delhi, April 8 (Ians) Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar stated that Gujarat Titans’ five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in the season opener of Ipl 2023 showed him that the Hardik Pandya-led side are capable of defending their title in the ongoing season.
Manjrekar also cited that the light team atmosphere created by Pandya and head coach Ashish Nehra has helped the players bring their A-game every time they step on the pitch.
Gujarat will be aiming to make a hat-trick of victories when they host Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
“Hardik is a successful captain because he does not take the game too seriously. Also, Ashish Nehra takes care of the tactical side and that is the reason why this team really seems to be playing as a unit. They proved it by winning the title last season and this season they beat Csk...

New Delhi, April 4 (Ians) Former India opener Virender Sehwag believes Chennai Super Kings skipper Ms Dhoni doesn’t go after milestones and said achieving the 5000-run milestone in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) won’t make any difference to former India captain.
During the match against Lucknow Super Giants, the Csk skipper crossed the 5000-run mark during his three-ball 12-run knock and became the first specialist wicketkeeper to reach the milestone in Ipl.
“If you ask Ms Dhoni, he will ask what difference it makes, whether he has scored 5000, 3000 or 7000 runs, the important thing is to win the trophy, which he has done. I don’t think he goes after or thinks about milestones,” Sehwag said during the post-match show on Star Sports.
Sehwag added that records and milestones are remembered post-retirement.
“I was also like that. Who knows how many runs have been scored but it is true that these numbers are remembered later.

By scoring his first fifty in more than a year, Kohli joined an elite list that includes Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag to score 4000 or more runs at home.

Mumbai, March 2 (Ians) Attacking batter Kiran Navgire has proven her ability as a big-hitter over the course of her career, especially in the Indian domestic circuit.
Navgire is also the first Indian cricketer to score more than 150 runs in a T20 match. Her inspiration for the prowess, seen from her knock of 69 for Velocity in the Women’s T20 Challenge at Pune last year, wasn’t surprising, as she idolises Ms Dhoni, Chris Gayle and Virender Sehwag.

New Delhi, Feb 4 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer Geoff Lawson revealed that current head coach Andrew McDonald’s viewpoint of the side’s success in the upcoming four-match Test series against India is broadly based around the quality of fast bowling rather than the temptation to fight spin with spin in the subcontinental conditions.
India are the current holder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won the last three series against Australia in 2017, 2018-19, and 2020-21. Australia, on the other hand, are aiming to win a Test series in India, starting from February 9 in Nagpur, after having done so last time in 2004.

His broad view of Australia’s potential success in the next four Test matches was based around the quality of his fast bowling rather than the temptation to fight spin with spin.

Johannesburg, Jan 27 (Ians) Proteas batting legend Ab de Villiers believes that just like the Indian Premier League (Ipl) elevated his game to the next level, the SA20 will do so for young South African players.
De Villiers was just 24 years old when he played in the inaugural Ipl and was still finding his feet at the international level. But after sharing a dressing room with the likes of Glenn McGrath, Daniel Vettori, Shoaib Malik and Virender Sehwag at the Delhi Daredevils, De Villiers was transformed from a precocious talent to a global superstar in the years to come.
Now in his first stint as a television commentator for SuperSport at the SA20, De Villiers is seeing first-hand the amount of young local talent South African cricket has to offer.

New Delhi, Dec 26 (Ians) Ahead of the inaugural edition of the ILT20 in the UAE, former India opener Virender Sehwag believes West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran is a dangerous player and if he comes in the form, then his team Mi Emirates stands to benefit hugely.
Pooran’s form has been a huge point of concern, amassing just 94 runs in his last 10 innings in T20Is. In West Indies’ shock first-round exit from the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, Pooran had scores of 5, 7 and 13 and stepped down as the side’s white-ball skipper.
“Nicholas Pooran is a dangerous player. While his performance in the Icc men’s T20 World Cup was not up to the mark, he is a brilliant player. In the recent Abu Dhabi T10 innings, he scored 70-80 runs in mere 20-25 balls. If he comes in the form, it will definitely benefit Mi Emirates.

Brisbane, Dec 18 (Ians) After the first Test between Australia and South Africa ended within two days, former cricketer Virender Sehwag slammed Australia for the Gabba pitch, saying that had it happened in India, it would have been labelled as the end of test cricket and what not.
A total of 34 wickets fell over the course of six sessions and within two days of the first Test. South Africa were shot out for 152 and 99 runs in two innings while Australia were bundled out for 216 in their first innings and struggled to 35/4 in their second innings to win the match by six wickets on Sunday.
In all, 19 wickets fell on the second day on a green top wicket that offered a lot of assistance to both teams’ pace attacks.
Taking to Twitter after the match, the former India opener pointed out the hypocrisy as the Australia captain and their supporters have been defending the ‘dangerous’ pitch.

Chattogram, Dec 14 (Ians) Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant became the second fastest Indian batter to reach 50 sixes landmark in Test cricket, on Day One of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Wednesday.
Pant secured this achievement when he made a counter-attacking 46 runs off 45 balls, laced with six fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 102.22, to keep the scoreboard moving after India lost K.L. Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli.
He reached the landmark when he slog-swept a juicy full toss from Mehidy Hasan Miraz over deep mid-wicket for six in the 32nd over, during the second session of day one.
He achieved the feat in just 54 innings, three more than regular skipper Rohit Sharma who got it in 51 innings. Overall, Pant stands third in the all-time list of fastest batters to reach 50 Test sixes, with Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi topping the list with 46 innings.

Chattogram, Dec 10 (Ians) India stand-in skipper K.L. Rahul was in absolute praise of Ishan Kishan’s record double-century in the third Odi against Bangladesh, saying the left-handed opener really grabbed his chance with both hands.
In a dead rubber, Kishan got to open the batting as skipper Rohit Sharma flew home to see a specialist after suffering a blow to his left thumb in the second Odi on Wednesday. He made the chance count by slamming the fastest double-century in the history of men’s Odi cricket, off just 126 balls, to lead India to a crushing 227-run win at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on a sunny Saturday.
Kishan also added 290 runs for the second wicket with Virat Kohli, who made his 44th Odi hundred, and his first in the format since August 2019, also his 72nd international hundred through a 91-ball 113. The mammoth stand between Kishan and Kohli is India...

New Delhi, Dec 10 (Ians) It is very rare that Virat Kohli scores a century in Odi cricket and is completely overshadowed by the heroics of another batter in the same innings for India. At the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (Zacs) in Chattogram on Saturday, Kohli’s 113 off 91 was not just overshadowed but was also reduced to being a footnote by Ishan Kishan.
Kishan, who got to open the batting as skipper Rohit Sharma flew home to see a specialist after suffering a blow to his left thumb in the second Odi on Wednesday, slammed the fastest double-century in the history of men’s Odi cricket, off just 126 balls, to become the top trending topic on social media.
With his 131-ball 210, laced with 24 fours and ten sixes, Kishan lit up a dead rubber by shattering the previous record of fastest 200 in men’s ODIs, which was held by Chris Gayle, who...

A confused Board, an even more out-of-sync coaching support staff, a selection committee which doesn’t know what to do (it has since been kicked out), an ageing lineup with 35-year-olds trying to keep pace with the dynamic changes in white ball cricket and, despite its availability, a diverse gene pool not being given adequate opportunities, and an ecosystem that encourages hyperbole covering up warts are responsible for the dismal state of affairs.
Innumerable experiments, chopping and changing players, keeping them on tenterhooks, have together accentuated this decline. Moreover, bowlers who are capable of delivering with the jagged edge of a katana and wakizashi, such as Kuldeep Yadav and Umran Malik, have been kept sheathed.
In this theatre of the absurd, also known as the strange world of Indian cricket, there is only disorder and chaos. In two successive T20 World Cups over two years all these failings have shown up.

From bowing out from the Asia Cup to losing the semi-finals of the Icc T20 World Cup, Team India has disappointed fans on so many levels. The strategies adopted by the team management have misfired continually over the past year.
The recent Odi series loss to Bangladesh just shows that India has hit rock bottom and now the only thing they can do is rise up.
But the question remains how? Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has said the team needs to "wake up" following the lean patch. "Cryptos se bhi teez gir rahi hai apni performance yaar. Need to shake up – wake up," Sehwag tweeted.
Meanwhile, former Indian bowler Venkatesh Prasad, too, had slammed the side for following a traditional style of play amid the ever-changing dynamics of the game.
"India is innovating in so many fields across the world. But when it comes to playing Limited overs cricket,...
