Legal battles in the entertainment world are never fun, but this week the dispute between Abhishek Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar has been put to rest as the Bombay High Court has ruled to give Abhishek joint credit as a writer for Rock On!! 2.
Abhishek filed a case against Excel Entertainment (created by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan) earlier this year upon learning he would not be given writing credits for the movie. Along with Pubali Chaudhuri, Abhishek will now be recognized as a writer for the sequel to the 2008’s Rock On!!, which Abhishek also wrote and directed.
“I am grateful to the High Court for recognizing my contribution to the creation of this project. This is a victory for all creative people who have perhaps struggled for the right of recognition. I wish the film the very best,” said Abhishek, who napped the Filmfare Award for Best Story for the original Rock On!

Readers may be aware of the seven month legal battle that was being 'fought' between Abhishek Kapoor and the makers of Rock On 2. The reason being him not given his due credit for the film. The ultimate result has worked in the favour of Abhishek Kapoor, courtesy the Bombay High Court's decision. Which means Abhishek Kapoor will now be sharing the 'story credits' for Rock On 2 with the screenplay writer Pubali Chaudhari. On the other hand, Pubali Chaudhari would be getting solo credit for the 'screenplay'. At the same time, whenever 'screenplay' credits appear on any publicity material, the credits for the 'story' would also be given. Speaking about the same, Hitesh Jain and Birendra Saraf, (Abhishek Kapoor's lawyers) said that the decision was a huge relief for (their client) Abhishek Kapoor, who was fighting the legal battle to get his due credit for authoring the story jointly with Pubali Chaudhuri,...

While Excel Entertainment's film Rock On went on to acquire a cult status, the sequel Rock On 2, has been facing issues, ever since the word go. After the Luke Kenny issue over him being retained in the sequel (which is still unclear), the film made news for the search of the 'perfect heroine'. This time round, the film is yet again in news because Abhishek Kapoor (who wrote and directed the original film), has now moved to the Bombay High Court against the makers of Rock On 2, claiming that he hasn't been credited for the story. The case which will come up for hearing today has Abhishek Kapoor seeking an injunction against Excel Entertainment to refrain from producing the movie, or even entering into any kind of third-party arrangements with the film. In addition to this, he has also sought that all the agreements signed till now for the...

The news is that the controversy regarding the story credits of film has finally been cleared (read 'resolved'). Speaking about the same, Pubali Chaudhuri (the film's writer) said that The Film Writers Association (Fwa) had informed an Appellate Board that had ruled that the story's credit to be given to Abhishek Kapoor and her for writing the film's story and the screenplay. Pubali added that the Fwa had closed the case and that the producers are satisfied with the verdict. She also added that the film will be going on floors as per the schedule. Directed by debutant Shujaat Saudagar, Rock On 2 is said to have retained the old cast for the second installment too and will be produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani under their banner Excel Entertainment.

For a while, the crew of Rock On have been contemplating on a sequel but even before the film went on floor, it has created a controversy. Apparently, the writer of the sequel Pubali Chaudhuri has been accused of denying credit to the other writer Abhishek Kapoor. Apparently, Pubali Chaudhuri, who had registered the script with The Film Writers Association, claimed that the script for the sequel was solely created by her. Abhishek Kapoor, who was also the director of the 2008 film Rock On was miffed when he wasn't given any credit and now it seems, that he has registered a complaint with the association for the same. Apparently, it seems that Abhishek was the one to have conceptualized the story and later, Pubali shaped it into a script. So the filmmaker is of the opinion that the two of them should deserve credit. Though Pubali did not comment on...

After his book inspired 3 Idiots, India’s biggest blockbuster of all time, Chetan Bhagat is set to see another one of his bestsellers ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’ made into a movie by the acclaimed director Abhishek Kapoor. Abhishek’s subtle and nuanced understanding of characters and friendships, which he handled brilliantly in Rock On!, makes him the only film maker who could have directed Kai Po Che!
Utv has officially bought the rights to the bestselling book that was first published in May 2008 and had an initial print-run of 420,000 copies with many reprints after that. Abhishek Kapoor dons the director’s mantle for the first time since Rock On! with a screenplay also written by himself, Pubali Chaudhuri, Supratik Sen and Chetan Bhagat.
The film, which has dollops of fun, friendship, masti, and highlights the coming of age of a group of three middle class youth, starts shooting in April.
