Promenade, a new film from John Jencks, has begun production in Brighton this week. More on the film below.
We’re hearing rumbles that a new British film is heading our way sooner rather than later from director John Jencks. The Hippopotamus director is helming Promenade, a Brighton set whodunnit, next and the project has just started filming, we hear.
The announcement comes with an ambiguous tagline: “50 Cast, 12 Stories, 1 Plot. No Heroes.” Colour us intrigued.
Here’s a synopsis for the film: In Brighton on the South coast of England, sharpened by the sting of sea spray, and mellowed by numinous light, a tight-knit community of oddballs and heart-felts live together in a tatty old mansion, the Fletcher Apartments. When a golden feather, the priceless antique mascot of the building, unexpectedly disappears, the residents have a mystery to solve. Will they find the talisman that previously bound them together, or will their community,...

While skimming Netflix's thriller collection, you might have come across a new British series called The Stranger. Created by Harlan Coben, the show includes mystery, intrigue, and, above all, family drama between an interconnected group of people - it's Love Actually . . . but make it murder. The show starts with a stranger who tips off Adam Price (Richard Armitage) about his wife's fake pregnancy. The stranger (Hannah John-Kamen) pops up routinely, blackmailing people about either their indiscretions or the indiscretions of their loved ones. Soon, Adam's wife Corinne (Dervla Kirwan) goes missing. Each episode, the story zooms out to give us a fuller picture. Here's how the twisty threads of the series unwind by The Stranger's ending.
What Happened at the Rave?
Let's briefly touch on the kids, who don't have much to do with the main plot, except that Detective Johanna Griffin (Siobhan Finneran) initially investigated their case before the murders.

Much of Netflix's The Stranger is ridiculously immersive.
The television series -- based on Harlan Coben's book of the same name -- apparently differs in some major ways from the source material.
But not having read the book myself, the adaptation is a terrifically winding road of deception and heartbreak.
So much occurs in the series, it's ridiculous to try and keep it all straight.
But the skillfull tying together of all the twisty knots is an all-enveloping and charged experience.
The premise places a blackmailing stranger -- played by Hannah John-Kamen -- at the core of controversy, as she attempts to eradicate lies and expose secrets for money.
She has a pained passion for executing these exposures with her business partner, Ingrid Prisby, played by Lily Loveless.
The domino effect of the first reveal on The Stranger Season 1 Episode 1 slowly builds into a catastrophic entanglement of many lives,...

Skins debuted on E4 10 years ago. We revisit a bold and unique adolescent drama that kick-started countless careers...
It’s been a decade since Skins, E4’s controversial teen drama, premiered. At the time, it was a source of anxiety for parents about what teenagers were getting up to when they weren’t looking, but for television executives it was pure gold. It achieved that rare feat - it got young people to watch and talk about it - and, after seven years of drinking, drugs and general debauchery, it bowed out in 2013.

Now it’s simply another teen drama of the past, perhaps remembered by most for the real-world ‘Skins Parties’ it inspired rather than the steps it took or the ground it broke. Whether it was casting complete unknowns,...

The Musketeers encounter a village of war widows in this solid series three instalment...
This review contains spoilers.
3.7 Fool's Gold
Following last week’s Death Of A Hero was always going to be a tough ask.
It’s interesting to see down which route The Musketeers went – keep up and maintain the pressure until the end, or have a breather and then go all-out for the remaining three episodes. Certainly, Fool's Gold went for the latter course (presuming that the last three episodes do indeed go hell for leather!), but that’s not to say that this is lesser Musketeers – in fact it’s a highly enjoyable episode whose place in the series seems perfectly right. I’m sure not all of you will agree, as the momentum from last week was significant, but I have my reasons…
First and foremost, it’s fitting that a story...

With great writing, a strong cast and a gripping story, Jack Thorne’s 2011 supernatural drama The Fades was one of the best…
According to former BBC Three controller Zai Bennett, fans of The Fades have themselves to blame for Jack Thorne’s superb fantasy drama not being recommissioned. We were too few and too old.
The BBC Three remit aimed to attract 16-34 year olds, Bennett explained at the 2012 Edinburgh International Television Festival. Because The Fades found more love among those with mortgages and middle-age spread than it did with fresh-faced teens and twenty-somethings, it didn’t fulfil that remit.
However much critical acclaim (plaudits from The Guardian, The Telegraph, some website called Den Of Geek) or however many awards (a Bafta for Best Drama, nominations for Best Writer, wins for Best Music and Digital Effects) The Fades received, the kids weren’t down so it had to go.

Here's one of those 'This'll make you feel old' factoids - it's two years since the last ever episode of Skins aired.
E4's groundbreaking hormone-fest wrapped up on August 5, 2013 - with an older Cook (Jack O'Connell) heading off into an uncertain future at the close of 'Rise (Part Two)'.
Cook was but one of 27 major characters featured on Skins across three 'Generations' - in a total of 61 episodes, split into seven series. But where are the teen tearaways of Roundview College now?
Generation One
1. Nicholas Hoult
Hoult played Tony Stonem - the pre-eminent bad boy of Skins - across its first two series. Later badly hurt in a traffic accident and forced to rely on others, Tony had mellowed by his final episodes.
Now aged 25, Hoult has become a bona-fide Hollywood star with roles in this year's Mad Max: Fury Road and the much-anticipated book adaptations Dark Places and Kill Your Friends.

Blonde to Black Pictures looks to digital platform for company investment.
Sadie Frost’s Blonde to Black Pictures is looking to raise £150k through crowdfunding platform Angels Den.
The investment is aimed at bolstering the London-based production company, which is run by actress and fashion designer Frost with business partner Emma Comley.
Blonde to Black is currently in post-production on feature Set the Thames on Fire, about two boys who fall through the clockwork of a grotesque, nightmare London.
Frost stars alongside Noel Fielding, Sally Phillips and ex-Skins actress Lily Loveless.
Frost said of the move: “The team at Angels offered us a great opportunity to bring the next wave of development funds into the company. It seemed very much a part of our ethos to get potential like-minded film fans and enthusiasts that spot a great investment opportunity as part of the team.”
Bill Morrow, co-founder of Angels Den, added: “It’s fantastic...

Last night's Skins Fire episode brought a heartbreaking end to the teen drama's long-running 'Naomily' saga. Fans who grew up with the second generation of Skins adored the Naomi Campbell (Lily Loveless) and Emily Fitch's (Kathryn Prescott) dynamic, creating endless fan sites, fan fiction and fan videos for the romantic duo.
The couple's return for these final Skins specials was one of the most-eagerly awaited elements of this final series, but the Naomily fans were put through the wringer last night as *Spoilers* one of half of the double act was... killed off. What followed was a mixture of anger, hysteria and old-fashioned denial.
There was despair

Warning: This review will contain spoilers.
From a reviewer’s point of view, this episode is a bit of paradox. In some ways it’s a big improvement on last week but in other ways, it’s a lot worse. The dramatic beats are considerably stronger since things of note are actually happening, allowing for more powerful emotions to be brought into play but the whole thing is pretty scattershot and has an ending that is carried off incredibly poorly. But I’ll get into that later. For now, let’s look at the positive stuff.
Whatever issues I may have with this episode, I have to heap praise on the storyline of Naomi having cancer. Last week I derided it as an attempt to have a drama bomb before the credits but writer Jess Brittain really comes into her own here with some beautifully written...

It's fitting that this final series of Skins is comprised of three two-parters, since the show has always somewhat relied on a two-act structure. The first series of any 'Generation' was always about 'actions' - wild parties, hedonism, casual sex - and the second about 'consequences' - growing up, growing apart and losing loved ones.
Compare the first series to the second, in which we lost everyone's favourite party animal Chris (Joe Dempsie), or the third to the fourth, in which Freddie (Luke Pasqualino) was brutally murdered.
So it is that the second instalment of Skins Fire sees Effy (Kaya Scodelario) face the consequences of last week's actions. Wild parties and drugs have been replaced with financial fraud and living the London high life, but the cost remains as high, and as grim, as ever.

'You, My Everything' was written by Goulding and produced by Jim Eliot during sessions for her latest album Halcyon.
The track has yet to receive an official release on either a Skins soundtrack or through a new version of Goulding's album.
Gabrielle Aplin and Roots Manuva have also contributed new songs for the next two episodes of Skins's final series.

Ellie Goulding, Gabrielle Aplin and Roots Manuva have created three unique tracks for the final series of Skins.
Goulding's track 'You, My Everything' will feature in Skins Fire - which sees Kaya Scodelario reprise the role of Effy Stonem.

Aplin's 'Start Again' will be heard in Cassie's (Hannah Murray) story Skins Pure, while Roots Manuva's 'Stole Youth' will debut in the final film Skins Rise, starring Jack O'Connell as Cook.
Scodelario recently told Digital Spy that she thinks now is the right time for Skins to come to an end.
"I'd like it to be the end," said the 21-year-old. "Only because... Skins has been such a great thing for our generation - I don't want it to become a parody of itself."

Skins star Kaya Scodelario has admitted that she was "nervous" about returning to the show.
The actress told the Radio Times that she "took a lot of convincing" to reprise her role of Effy Stonem for Skins Fire.

"I didn't think Effy was ever going to return and I was really nervous about bringing her back," said Scodelario.
"She's so precious to me and such an important part of who I am. Skins is actually a part of who I am as a person, so I was really focused on making sure the scripts and the storylines were right."
The 21-year-old added that she had "cried [her] eyes out" when her original run on Skins concluded in 2010.

The much-anticipated final series of Skins kicks off tonight on E4. Up first is Skins Fire, a two-episode story penned by Jess Britain that explores the 22-year-old world of Effy Stonem as she tries to navigate adult life in London. Fire also includes Lily Loveless and Kathryn Prescott as supporting characters. What are Naomi and Emily up to five years after we saw them in the final episode of series four? What can we expect for them, as individuals and as a couple, in these final two episodes? Jess was gracious enough to chat with me about the beloved characters, and about saying goodbye to a family legacy.
AfterEllen: What drew you to writing Effy's story for the final season, and what made you want to include Naomi and Emily in her story?
Jess Brittain: I guess it was a combination of reasons.

Skins is about to come to a close and we're feeling rather blue about the whole thing, given that we've loved the show since it first started way back when. But hey, we've still got three special stories to look forward to - and they just happen to feature some of our favourite characters, too.
For example, popping up in Kaya Scodelario's Skins Fire are Lily Loveless and Kathryn Prescott, who inspired a gazillion Tumblrs with their on-screen romance as Naomi and Emily (or, well, Naomily.) We caught up with the duo to reminisce about times gone by, a ProPlus ban, why they cringe about watching the show now, orgasm faces and more...

Cassie, Cook and Effy are back, and things are only getting more dramatic in the final season of "Skins," which is broken into three parts.
Cassie (Hannah Murray) is feeling invisible and lonely in London in "Skins Pure," while Cook (Jack O'Connell) is spending his days delivering drugs to Manchester Revellers in "Skins Rise." Meanwhile, in "Skins Fire," Effy (Kaya Scodelario) is working as a receptionist for a leading London Hedge Fund, which seems like a dead-end job until she discovers some shocking financial information and starts having an affair with her boss (because she's Effy).
In the trailer above, for part one of "Skins" final season, "Skins Fire, Effy is living with her fellow Roundview College alumna Naomi (Lily Loveless), who's trying to make sure she doesn't destroy her life. The Effy-centric installment will also see the return of Emily (Kat Prescott), who had a sweet, but at times,...

I love you.

It's Thursday afternoon, TV fans, and you know what that means... or at least you should... it's time for another Tube Talk Q&A.
This week we've got telly teasers and titbits from great shows like Luther, Skins and Elementary that are so good you really should stop reading this intro and go check them out now. Like, right now. Seriously, why are you still paying attention to this?
Any concrete news on an airdate for Wentworth on Channel 5?
There's quite a bit of excitement brewing about Wentworth - for the unaware, the gritty women's prison drama is a revamp of sorts of the Australian soap opera Prisoner (or Prisoner: Cell Block H as it was known in the UK), with a number of old faces returning in new guises.
Channel 5 will be giving the series its UK premiere in September - expect a more concrete transmission date in the near future!

Skins actress Kaya Scodelario has teased her upcoming return to the E4 drama.
Scodelario reprises her role of Effy in the special Skins Fire, which will premiere in July.
Speaking about her story, she explained: "The main theme is Effy and Naomi's (Lily Loveless) friendship; how it grows, how it changes and the kind of struggles that they go through together.
"The story is about a lot of different things including friendship, love and redemption but ultimately it's them finding themselves in the world.
"They are trying to work out what it means to grow up, how you're supposed to know when you've become an adult and what you should do with your life. It's hard to work all that out when you're 20-something. I certainly haven't."
Scodelario also revealed that she never expected to return to Skins. She said: "When I said goodbye to Effy three years ago, I cried my eyes out.

Digital Spy can't promise you blue skies and a BBQ, but we can guarantee great telly. Here are 10 shows that you shouldn't miss between the months of May and August.

The Americans
ITV rarely acquires Us shows, so they obviously spotted something very exciting in this FX Cold War-era spy series. Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell star as the Kgb members,...

Lily Loveless has spoken to Digital Spy about her role in new BBC Three drama The Crash.
The two-parter - written by Law & Order: UK's Terry Cafolla - explores the impact of a horrific car crash on a group of young friends and their families.
"It's an important piece of drama," Loveless - who plays the character of Ash - told DS. "It really makes you think, it's got a good story behind it and they did it for a good reason - I think it really matters."
The 22-year-old actress revealed that she often finds herself drawn to dark, dramatic scripts like The Crash.
"I always like scripts that are a bit dark," said Loveless. "For some reason, I find them a lot more interesting.
"Even when I was little, my favourite film was Snow White because it was quite creepy. I don't really know why - I'm not a creepy person!

Lily Loveless has admitted that the cast of The Fades are "still annoyed" by the show's cancellation.
The paranormal drama was axed by BBC Three following a single series in April 2012, winning a BAFTA a month later.
Loveless - who played Anna on the show - told Digital Spy that the show's cast are still upset that it did not return.
"I'm so glad that people still complain about that, because we still complain about it too!" she laughed. "We're still pretty annoyed that we didn't get a chance to come back for a second series."
"[Writer Jack Thorne] spent a long time getting the show made, then finally it got made, won a BAFTA and then they didn't bring it back.
"But we loved it… and we were pleased that the people who liked it seemed to really, really like it."
