Geraldine "Gerry" Largay, the Appalachian Trail hiker who died after spending 26 days lost along the Appalachian Trail was supposed to meet her husband, George Largay, to collect fresh supplies at a pre-arranged spot near a ski and golf resort in July 2013 - but she never showed up. The 66-year-old, an experienced outdoorswoman nicknamed "Inchworm," set out with her backpacking buddy Jane Lee for a "bucket list" adventure hike from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, to Maine's Mount Katahdin in April 2013, according to the Boston Globe. As the two were entering New Hampshire's White Mountains, Lee was forced to leave the trail due to a family emergency.

The entire pilot of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuted at Comic-Con, a full two months ahead of the show’s September 24 premiere. Sorry, everyone not in San Diego.
And don’t expect any shaky cell phone footage to hit the Internet anytime soon: A crew of “S.H.I.E.L.D. agents” patrolled the Ballroom 20 floor to make sure rogue fans weren’t recording the top-secret show during Friday’s panel. (Yet another example of art imitating life imitating art.)
So what did the lucky few Whedonites have to say about the pilot? As you can imagine, the Twitter response was across-the-board positive — with one exception.

The Young and the Restless tallied 23 nominations as honors were announced this morning for the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Restless’ impressive take helped CBS lead all networks with 50 overall nominations. PBS and ABC followed, with 44 and 38 nods, respectively.
General Hospital, which earned 19 nominations, joined Restless in the race for Outstanding Drama Series, and Sesame Street received 17 nods, including three for Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo who faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
Good Morning America and Today will bring their ratings rivalry to the Emmys, where they’ll be joined by CBS Sunday Morning in the Outstanding Morning Program category.

It took three decades to bring the seminal book to the big screen, and finally, the road trip tome from Jack Kerouac received a mid fest showing. His fifth trip on the Croisette, (two shorts in omnibuses) with The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) and Linha de Passe (2007), I think you can make an argument that Walter Salles was the man for the job. An ensemble that included Garrett Hedlund (as Dean Moriarty), Sam Riley (Sal Paradise), Kristen Stewart (Marylou), Amy Adams (Jane Lee), Tom Sturridge (Carlo Marx), Elisabeth Moss (Galatea Dunkel), Kirsten Dunst (Camille) and Viggo Mortensen in a brilliant raspy voice set Old Bull Lee aka William S. Burroughs. It’s almost a shame that our critics think that On the Road is of a middle of the road quality. Click the image to enlarge!

Lauren Conrad has secured a deal to pen a new column for Forbes Lifestyle. The businesswoman and former Hills star will document her experiences in the business world for the website from next week, Forbes revealed on Wednesday. "Lauren's jump from celebrity to entrepreneur puts her on the same trajectory as many a bright-eyed instant cover girl, but whether she can channel her persona into an enduring commercial tour de force remains to be seen," wrote Forbes associate editor Jane Lee in the announcement. For her Golden Globe-nominated role in 'The Fighter,' it turns out Amy Adams wasn't supposed to be in fighting shape... and that was quite all right with her. The two time Oscar-nominated actress spoke with Parade Magazine on Sunday, and among other things, tackled questions about her body.
"Being pregnant finally helped me understand what my true relationship was with my body --meaning that it wasn't put on this earth to look good in a swimsuit," she told the magazine. Now, with the baby (seven month old Aviana) born, she's keeping the same attitude.
"I've been working out when I can, and I'm trying to eat in a healthful way, but losing weight is not my number-one priority," she said. "It's part of my job to return to some semblance of what I was before. But I don't feel I've ever made my career on my rockin' bod.

Makeup FX artist Jeffrey S. Farley (pictured) of the Obscure Artifacts company sent along a bunch of behind-the-scenes pics from his assorted recent projects (see them below). The most notable are from Camera Obscura, the on-line horror series from up-and-coming genre filmmaker Drew Daywalt.
Camera Obscura (first row of photos), which we last reported on here, follows a young woman as she continues her deceased grandfather’s battle against creatures from a hellish parallel reality. “My involvement came about through my friendship with Drew,” Farley, who also associate-produced the series, tells Fango. “We’ve had a great time on every show since Breach, and when he sold Camera Obscura, he told me, ‘You’re on, and here are some ideas I’ve come up with.’ Then he produced some of the most incredible Bosch/Bacon-styled designs I’ve ever seen. Needless to say, I was sold.
