“Iwájú,” Disney Animation’s sci-fi long-form series about a futuristic Lagos (currently streaming on Disney+ and coming to The Disney Channel April 22), is a far cry from such culturally diverse features as “Moana,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” and “Encanto.” This is a Nigerian series — Disney’s first-ever outside collaboration of this kind — told from the Black team at Kugali Media, the U.K.-based Pan-African media company, voiced by Nigerian actors, and with a score from Nigerian composer Ré Olunuga.
“Iwájú” (which loosely means “the future” in Yoruba) began as a Kugali comic book anthology. Kugali co-founders Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, Hamid Ibrahim, and Tolu Olowofoyeku let it be known in an interview they had their sights set on animation and were determined to “kick Disney’s arse in Africa.” This came to the attention of Disney Animation’s chief creative officer, Jennifer Lee, who was so impressed with the...

Origins is a recurring series that gives artists a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, Lindsey Lomis takes us through her new single, “Outta Sight (On My Mind).”
“This song is the start of a brand new phase,” Lindsey Lomis tells Consequence about her latest release, titled “Outta Sight (On My Mind).” “I’m a newly independent artist, I just moved to LA, I’m in a new relationship. I even got bangs.”
Bangs are, as we all know, the universal signifier of a fresh start, and the pop artist is enthusiastically turning the corner with this one. “Outta Sight (On My Mind)” features a lilting, flowy earworm of a chorus, stacked harmonies, and a funk-adjacent bassline, injected with tragically, comically relatable lyrics. “You’re superglued to my subconscious/ Thinking ’bout you makes me nauseous,” she sings.

When Ray Johnson finally woke up, he had no idea why he was in the ICU. “Tell me I didn’t crash my car I just bought,” Johnson, now 22, remembers telling his dad. But the next day, Johnson’s parents gathered their son with his friend Kurtis Stitt and told the boys what had happened. The previous weekend, Johnson and Stitt had been camping in a trailer with a group of their closest friends at Faster Horses, a country-music festival in Brooklyn, Michigan. Now, three of their friends were dead.

In Showtime's "Yellowjackets," the dream of '90s alt-rock is alive and well and snacking on a human ear in the Canadian wilderness. You could draw up a playlist for this show and it would be like tuning into your local alternative station, back when FM radio was more of a thing, too. For Warren Kole, who plays Jeff Sadecki, husband of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), there's one song, however, that was nothing if not an acquired taste.
We're talking about Papa Roach's "Last Resort." It would be unfair to call Papa Roach a one-hit wonder, since they've had six songs make the Billboard Hot 100 chart over the course of their illustrious nu-metal career, but for casual fans of a certain age, "Last Resort" is undoubtedly the band's best-known song. For his part, Kole would not even qualify as a casual fan, since he had never heard the song before...

Exclusive: Following the success of their Academy Award-winning Warner Bros drama King Richard, based on their own life stories, tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams have teamed with Oscar-nominated Tár producer Alexandra Milchan to develop En Garde, a new feature to be adapted for the screen and directed by the duo known as Bush Renz (Antebellum).
The forthcoming film is based on the New York Times bestselling book Black Brother, Black Brother by award-winning author Jewell Parker Rhodes, which was published by Little, Brown in 2020. It tells the story of two bi-racial brothers — one white-presenting; the other, Black — who must navigate the unforgiving social constructs and institutions of an elite Connecticut prep high school. When the darker-skinned brother’s future is threatened by his arch-nemesis, he seeks out the counsel of an Olympic fencing champion to beat him at his own game.
Venus Williams will be joined as a producer...

“‘Yellowjackets’ just hit the bullseye,” says Warren Kole, who plays Jeff Sadecki in the Showtime drama series. “I’ve never been a part of anything so well-received. You know you’ve captured an audience when everyone is thoughtfully theorizing about what’s motivating, what’s next and what’s underneath the story and the characters.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

The film currently shooting in Los Angeles is described as being of the world of Swingers, with the sensibility of Pulp Fiction. Essentially, Hollywood idiots getting in way over their heads. On Christmas eve, six fledgling Hollywood hopefuls get a mysterious knock at their door and an envelope of $$$ at their feet. It contains the “opportunity of a lifetime” to go burglarize a mutually despised producer that once screwed them over and steal his Best Picture awards. Who organized this holiday heist?...
